Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Bills

Ikeja Electric overbilled you? How to dispute a bill

How to challenge an inflated Ikeja Electric bill: the evidence to gather, how to lodge the complaint, and how escalation works now Lagos has LASERC.

The short answer

To dispute an inflated Ikeja Electric bill, lodge a written complaint with Ikeja Electric first, with the bill, your meter readings or usage history and payment receipts, and get a reference number. If it is not resolved, NERC's published route is the Forum office and then the regulator, and in states with their own regulator those steps go to the state regulator; in Lagos that is LASERC. Pay any undisputed part of the bill while the dispute runs.

Is the bill actually wrong?

Before you complain, check what kind of problem you have, because each one is argued differently.

ProblemHow to tellWhat to argue
Estimated bill too highBill marked estimated; units far above your usual useAsk for the basis of the estimate and for the bill to be limited under the applicable energy cap
Wrong meter readingPresent reading on the bill differs from your meterSend a dated photo of the meter and ask for a re-bill on the actual reading
Wrong tariff class or bandClass or band on the bill does not match your premises or supplyAsk for reclassification and a refund of the difference
Payment not creditedA payment you made is missing from the payments lineSend the receipt and transaction reference
Arrears you do not recogniseArrears brought forward from before you moved inShow your tenancy start date and ask for the account history

If you are unmetered, the question of how much you can be billed is covered in estimated electricity bills in Nigeria and the Ikeja Electric estimated bill cap. NERC publishes monthly energy caps on its website; the September 2026 caps were posted on 1 September 2026.

Evidence to gather

  • The disputed bill and at least three earlier bills, to show your normal usage.
  • Dated photos of your meter reading, taken on the bill date or as close to it as you can.
  • Receipts and transaction references for every payment.
  • A list of your main appliances and when you are at home, if usage is in question.
  • A log of outages, if you were billed for power you did not receive.
  • Your tenancy agreement or proof of when you moved in, if arrears are in question.

Steps: lodging the complaint with Ikeja Electric

  1. Write the complaint down, even if you also call. State your account number, the bill date, the amount in dispute and what you think the correct amount is.
  2. Attach the evidence above.
  3. Send it through the channels on Ikeja Electric's official website or your bill, or take it to the business unit that serves your area and ask for a stamped copy.
  4. Get a complaint reference number and the date it was logged.
  5. Ask what will happen next and by when, and note the answer.
  6. Keep paying the undisputed part of the bill, such as your normal monthly amount, and keep the receipts. This weakens any argument that you are simply in arrears.

Worked example: what a fair figure looks like

Example figures only. Suppose your last three bills were for 150, 165 and 160 kWh, and the new estimated bill is for 420 kWh. Your average over the three months is 158.3 kWh (150 plus 165 plus 160 is 475, divided by 3). The new bill is about 2.7 times that (420 divided by 158.3 is 2.65). That gap is your argument: ask Ikeja Electric to explain the estimate and to re-bill on your normal use or the applicable cap, whichever rule applies to you.

Writing the complaint so it gets answered

Keep it short and specific. One page is enough: who you are, the account number, the bill in dispute, what is wrong with it, the figure you believe is right and what you want Ikeja Electric to do, such as cancel and re-issue the bill, refund an overpayment or reclassify your band. Number your attachments and refer to them by number. A complaint that asks for a specific remedy is easier to resolve, and easier for a regulator to assess later, than a general protest about high bills.

Escalating if Ikeja Electric does not resolve it

NERC's published dispute route is your DisCo first, then your nearest NERC Forum office, then NERC, and NERC notes that in states with a state electricity regulatory commission the second and third steps go to that commission. Lagos is one of those states: the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission issued an order, reported on 11 June 2025, completing the transition of oversight from NERC. That order kept existing national rules on tariffs and metering binding on Lagos licensees until LASERC amends or replaces them.

When you escalate, send the regulator your complaint reference, a copy of your complaint, Ikeja Electric's reply if any, and your evidence. Our guide to electricity complaints in Lagos covers that step.

This is general information, not legal advice. If a large sum is at stake, consider advice from a lawyer.

Where Pryme fits

Billing disputes are won with records. If you pay through electricity bills in the Pryme app, every payment has a receipt in the app, and with Pryme's partner VerifyDoc.ai you can generate a verifiable receipt or statement that anyone, including a regulator, can check is genuine and unaltered. See receipts.

Questions people ask

How do I complain about a high Ikeja Electric bill?

Lodge a written complaint with Ikeja Electric with your bill, meter photos and receipts, and get a reference number.

Should I stop paying while I dispute my bill?

Keep paying the undisputed part, such as your normal monthly amount, and keep the receipts.

Where do I report Ikeja Electric if they do not resolve my complaint?

NERC's route says the later steps go to the state regulator where one exists. In Lagos that is LASERC.

Can Ikeja Electric charge me for the last tenant's debt?

Ask for the account history and show when your tenancy began. See our guide to moving house in the Ikeja Electric area.
