Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Saving in Nigeria for a planned move back from the UK

Planning to return home in a few years? How to match savings to naira costs, keep accounts usable, and avoid converting at a bad time.

The short answer

If you plan to move back to Nigeria in a few years, the safest approach is to save in the currency of each future cost: naira for costs you will pay in naira (rent, a car, school fees, setting up a business) and pounds for anything you will still pay in the UK. Building a naira balance gradually spreads your conversions over many exchange rates, and keeping a working Nigerian account with your BVN or NRBVN means the money is usable when you land.

A return move is one of the few times a UK-based Nigerian knows, years ahead, that a large share of their spending will switch to naira. That makes the planning different from ordinary saving. The goal is not to earn the highest rate; it is to arrive with enough naira to cover a known list of costs, without having bet everything on one exchange rate on one day.

Start with a list of naira costs

Write down what you will pay in Nigeria in your first year. Typical items are rent (often paid a year or more upfront), a vehicle, furniture, school fees, a buffer for living costs while work settles, and capital for a business. Some costs may be priced in dollars in practice, such as some rents or imported goods, so note those separately.

Then list what stays in pounds: a UK pension, any UK debts, student loan obligations, a UK property, or travel back to the UK. Those should not be converted at all.

Why spreading conversions helps

If you convert everything in one month, your whole plan rides on that month's rate. Converting a fixed amount each month or quarter means you buy naira at many rates, some good and some poor. It does not beat the market, but it removes the risk of picking the worst moment. Our guide on when to convert pounds before moving back sets out a staged plan for the final year.

A simple worked example

Example only, with made-up rates. You need ₦24,000,000 in three years. You convert £300 a month for 36 months. If the rate averages ₦2,200 per £1 over that time, you collect about ₦23,760,000 before interest. If you had waited and converted £10,800 at the end at ₦2,000 per £1, you would get ₦21,600,000; at ₦2,400 you would get ₦25,920,000. Spreading narrows the range of outcomes.

Where to keep the naira while you wait

  • Treasury bills. Government bills are a safe naira benchmark. At the 7 October 2026 auction the 364-day stop rate was 15.85%.
  • Fixed deposits. Rates are agreed per bank. Check what happens if you break the deposit early.
  • Savings accounts and target savings. Lower rates, but access when plans change.

Nigerian inflation was 14.63% in September 2026 (NBS), so naira savings mainly protect purchasing power rather than grow it. Match the term of each pot to when you need it: rent money due in the first month should not be locked away.

Keep the account usable from the UK

A naira balance you cannot reach is a problem on arrival. Check that your Nigerian accounts are active, linked to your BVN, and that you can receive codes outside Nigeria. Nigerians abroad without a BVN can apply for a Non-Resident BVN online at nrbvn.com; NIBSS says it is issued within 72 hours of approval. The CBN has said NRBVN carries a $50 processing cost. For more on the identity side, see NRBVN explained and keeping a Nigerian account active from the UK.

Tax while you are still in the UK

While you are UK resident, GOV.UK says you are normally taxed on all income, so interest on naira savings is generally reportable to HMRC. After you leave and become non-resident, you pay UK tax only on UK income. The UK-Nigeria treaty provides credit for tax paid in the other country. If you hold an ISA, you can keep it after leaving but cannot pay in while non-resident. This is information, not tax advice.

What often goes wrong

  • Dormant accounts. Accounts with no activity for long periods can be flagged and need reactivation in person or with forms, which is hard from abroad. A small transaction now and then keeps them in use.
  • Phone numbers. Many Nigerian banks send codes to the phone number linked to your BVN. If that line lapses while you are in the UK, access becomes difficult.
  • Family-held money. Money kept in a relative's account is not legally yours, and can be lost to disputes, debts or a death in the family. Keep savings in your own name.
  • Land and property bought unseen. Large payments for land from abroad are a common target for fraud. Verify title independently before paying.
  • Locking everything up. A move date often slips. Keep part of the naira accessible rather than in long fixed terms.

Steps

  1. List year-one costs by currency.
  2. Pick a monthly or quarterly conversion amount and stick to it.
  3. Split naira into pots by when you will need them.
  4. Keep BVN, NIN and phone details current so accounts stay open.
  5. Keep records of every conversion for HMRC and for your Nigerian bank.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account holds pounds and naira together. You can convert a set amount whenever you choose with Swap, which shows the rate and the fee before you approve, and move naira into Savings Boxes for each goal, with rates shown in the app. The Personal Assistant can prepare a monthly conversion reminder; nothing moves without your approval.

Questions people ask

Should I convert all my savings before moving back to Nigeria?

Converting in stages usually carries less risk than converting everything at once. Keep anything you will still owe or spend in the UK in pounds.

Where can I keep naira safely while I am in the UK?

Treasury bills, bank fixed deposits and savings accounts are the usual options. Treasury bills are the government benchmark; the 364-day bill cleared at 15.85% on 7 October 2026.

Do I need a BVN to save in Nigeria from the UK?

Most Nigerian accounts need a BVN. If you do not have one, the NRBVN can be applied for online at nrbvn.com.

Is interest on my Nigerian savings taxed in the UK?

While you are UK resident it is generally taxable in the UK, with treaty credit for Nigerian tax. This is information, not advice.
