Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Can I hold euro and naira in one account while living in Ireland?

Irish banks are built for euro and Nigerian banks for naira. The options for keeping both, and how converting between them is priced.

The short answer

Yes, though not usually at an Irish high-street bank. The common routes are a Nigerian bank (naira account plus a euro domiciliary account, opened remotely via NRBVN) or a multicurrency account that holds both. Pryme's personal account, which can be opened from Ireland, holds NGN, EUR, USD and GBP with local details for each and converts only when you choose, with the rate and fee shown first.

Living in Ireland and keeping ties to Nigeria usually means two kinds of money: euro salary and bills here, naira for family, rent, school fees or savings at home. Keeping them in separate banks in separate countries works, but it means two apps, two log-ins and a conversion every time money crosses. This guide sets out the options and what each conversion really costs.

The three main options

OptionHow it holds both currenciesPoints to check
Irish bank account plus Nigerian bank accountEuro in Ireland, naira in Nigeria; you move money between themInternational transfer fees and FX margin each time
Nigerian bank: naira account plus euro domiciliary accountBoth in Nigeria under one bankOpening requirements, minimum balances, cash rules
Multicurrency accountSeveral currency balances in one accountWhich currencies, which local details, how conversion is priced

Citizens Information's guide to opening a bank account in Ireland (edited 22 July 2026) describes current accounts from banks, credit unions and An Post, and the basic bank account with no fees for everyday banking in the first year. It does not describe naira accounts at Irish providers, and we have not found one.

A Nigerian bank with a euro domiciliary account

Several Nigerian banks let Nigerians abroad open naira and domiciliary accounts remotely. NIBSS runs the Non-Resident BVN (NRBVN) at nrbvn.com, issued within 72 hours of approval, and banks such as Access Bank and GTBank point diaspora customers to it. Bank pages show the differences: Fidelity lists euro domiciliary accounts with a €50 minimum opening balance, while FirstBank's FAQs list €5,000 as a minimum balance for its euro domiciliary account. Full steps are in opening a Nigerian domiciliary account from Ireland.

One caution: under the CBN's 2026 FX Manual, as reported by Pavestones Legal on Mondaq, cash withdrawals from inbound transfers are capped at the naira equivalent of US$200, and inbound foreign-currency transfers may be paid in naira or another currency the CBN determines. A domiciliary account is a good place to hold euro, but it does not always behave like a euro account in Ireland.

How conversion is priced

Every time euro becomes naira or the reverse, two things cost you money:

The fee
A fixed or percentage charge shown as a line item.
The FX margin
The gap between the rate you get and the mid-market rate. It is often larger than the fee and rarely labelled.

Example only: you convert €500 when the mid-market rate is ₦1,750 to €1, which would give ₦875,000. If you are offered ₦1,715, you receive ₦857,500. The margin has cost ₦17,500, which is 2% of the mid-market value, before any fee. Compare the total naira you receive, not the headline fee.

Which option suits which reader

  • You send a fixed amount home each month: one conversion a month at a known cost matters more than holding naira; compare providers on total naira delivered.
  • You receive naira (rent from a Lagos flat, payments from Nigerian clients): holding naira until you choose to convert avoids being forced into a poor rate on the day it lands.
  • You save towards a project at home: keeping that money as naira in Nigeria avoids converting twice, but you carry the naira's movement against the euro.
  • You travel home often: having naira ready to spend locally saves converting at airports or with cash dealers.

What to look for in a multicurrency account

  • Real local details for each currency: a euro IBAN for Irish payments and a Nigerian account number for naira.
  • Money staying in the currency it arrived in until you choose to convert.
  • The rate and the fee shown before you approve each conversion.
  • Clear information on who holds your money in each currency and how it is protected.
  • The ability to pay Nigerian bills and send to Nigerian banks directly.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme personal account can be opened from Ireland and holds NGN, EUR, USD and GBP in one account with local details for each. Money stays in the currency it arrived in; Swap converts when you choose, with the rate shown first and the fee on its own line. Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit; outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners. If you save in naira, Savings Boxes are available for naira balances. Open an account to see the details.

For a Nigeria-side comparison, see domiciliary account vs multicurrency account.

Questions people ask

Can I open a naira account in Ireland?

We have not found an Irish bank offering naira accounts. The usual routes are a Nigerian bank account opened remotely or a multicurrency account that holds naira.

What is the cheapest way to convert euro to naira?

Compare the total naira you receive after the fee and the FX margin against the mid-market rate on the day. The headline fee alone is misleading.

Can I open a Nigerian domiciliary account from Ireland?

Yes, at many banks, using the NIBSS Non-Resident BVN. Requirements and minimum balances differ by bank.

Is naira in a multicurrency app protected?

It depends who holds it. Ask where the naira is held and whether NDIC insurance applies. For Pryme, naira is held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, NDIC-insured up to the applicable limit.
