Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Irish bank queried a deposit from Nigeria: what to show

Why Irish banks question money arriving from Nigeria, the documents that usually answer the question, and how to respond without delay.

The short answer

Answer with documents that trace the money from its origin to your account: who sent it, why, and where they got it. For your own savings that means Nigerian bank statements and the original source, such as payslips, a sale agreement or rent receipts; for a gift, a signed letter from the giver with their ID and statement; and for cash, your Customs declaration. Reply promptly through the bank's official channel and keep copies.

A large transfer from Nigeria, or a cash deposit after a trip home, can trigger a message from your Irish bank: please explain the source of these funds. It feels personal, but it is routine. Banks check unusual or large payments as part of their anti-money-laundering duties, and a payment from abroad that does not fit your usual pattern is a common trigger. The faster you give a clear paper trail, the faster the money is released.

Why the question comes

  • The amount is large compared with your usual account activity or declared income.
  • The money arrived as cash rather than by transfer. Revenue notes that its cash controls exist partly to deter money laundering, and Customs may seize sums of €1,000 or more it suspects are linked to crime.
  • The sender is a third party the bank does not know, or several people sent smaller amounts.
  • The Nigerian side also reports large flows: Nigeria's Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, as summarised on Mondaq, requires transfers to or from abroad above US$10,000 to be reported by the institution, so the payment may already be on record.

Documents that usually answer it

Banks set their own requirements and will tell you what they need. The table maps common situations to the evidence that usually satisfies them.

Where the money came fromWhat to show
Your own savings in NigeriaNigerian bank statements covering the period the savings built up; payslips or business records showing how you earned them
Sale of land, a house or a carSale agreement, receipt, evidence of ownership (for example the title document), and the statement showing the buyer's payment
Rent from a Nigerian propertyTenancy agreement, rent receipts, statements showing rent received, withholding tax credit notes
Gift from a parent or relativeSigned gift letter with amount, relationship and purpose; copy of the giver's ID; the giver's statement showing the funds
Loan from familySigned loan note with repayment terms; the lender's statement
Cash brought inYour stamped Revenue cash declaration, Nigerian declaration if made, and the withdrawal or source records
InheritanceDeath certificate, probate or letters of administration, executor's statement of distribution

Two points help in every case. First, show the chain: each document should lead to the next, from origin to the transfer into your Irish account. Second, show that the names match. A payment from your own Nigerian account, in your own name, is far easier to explain than one from a friend's.

How to respond

  1. Read the request carefully and note the deadline and what exactly is asked.
  2. Reply only through the bank's secure app or the contact on its official website, never through links or numbers in an unexpected message.
  3. Send clear scans or PDFs, with a short cover note explaining the story in plain words: who, what, when, why.
  4. Translate or explain anything a bank in Ireland may not recognise, for example what a deed of assignment or a Governor's Consent is.
  5. Keep copies of everything you sent and the date.
  6. If the bank is still not satisfied, ask what else it needs rather than moving the money elsewhere in a hurry.

A cover note can be short. For example: "The €18,000 received on 3 October came from my own savings account at a Nigerian bank, in my name. The savings came from my salary at my former employer in Lagos between 2019 and 2024; statements and payslips are attached. I converted the money in Nigeria and transferred it to my account here to fund a house deposit." A note like this, with the documents behind it, answers most queries at the first attempt.

Things that make it worse

  • Letting other people route money through your account. An Garda Siochana warns never to send money on for a third party unless you are sure of them; receiving and passing on others' funds can make you a "money mule".
  • Inconsistent stories. If the transfer reference says "school fees" and you say it is savings, expect more questions.
  • Splitting a large sum into many small transfers. It can look like an attempt to avoid checks.
  • Silence. An unanswered request can lead to the payment being returned or the account restricted.

If you think the bank has treated you unfairly

Complain to the bank first in writing. If that does not resolve it, the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman is independent and free, and takes complaints once the provider has had its chance to respond. Banks do not have to explain every compliance decision, but they should handle your complaint properly.

Where Pryme fits

Clear records make these questions easy. With a Pryme personal account, which can be opened from Ireland and holds NGN and EUR with local details for each, you can generate verifiable receipts and statements through Pryme's partner VerifyDoc.ai, which anyone can check are genuine and unaltered. Conversions with Swap show the rate and fee before you approve, so each step has a record. See also source-of-funds checks on payments to Nigeria and converting naira savings to euro.

Questions people ask

Why is my Irish bank asking about money from Nigeria?

Large or unusual payments trigger checks under anti-money-laundering rules. It is routine; documents tracing the money usually resolve it.

What counts as proof of source of funds?

Documents that show where the money began: statements, payslips, a sale agreement, rent receipts, a signed gift letter with the giver's ID and statement.

Can the bank send my money back?

If it cannot verify the source, a bank may return a payment or restrict the account. Respond quickly and fully.

Where can I complain about my bank in Ireland?

Complain to the bank first, then to the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman, which is free and independent.
