Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

ATM retained your GTBank card: how to get it back

What to do when an ATM swallows your GTBank card, at a GTBank or another bank's machine, when to block it, and what a replacement costs under CBN rules.

The short answer

If a GTBank ATM keeps your card, go to the branch that runs that machine with a valid ID and ask for it; if another bank's ATM keeps it, that bank holds the card and its branch decides whether to hand it back or destroy it. GTBank does not publish a retrieval window, so if you cannot collect it quickly, block it with *737*51*10# and request a replacement; the CBN caps a customer-requested replacement at ₦1,000 under its 2020 Guide to Charges.

Why ATMs keep cards

An ATM retains a card to protect you or the network. GTBank's help centre lists several situations in which card transactions fail, including use of a wrong PIN three times in a day, a card that has not been activated, and exceeding the daily ATM withdrawal limit. Machines also keep cards left in the slot after a timeout, cards the issuing bank has reported as hotlisted, and cards that cannot be read. The cause matters because it decides whether you can simply collect the card or need a new one.

Retained at a GTBank ATM

  1. Note the ATM location, the date and time, and anything the screen said.
  2. Go to the GTBank branch that manages that ATM, ideally the same or next working day, with a valid photo ID.
  3. Ask the branch for your retained card. Branch staff usually check that the name and card match your ID before releasing it.
  4. If the card was retained after three wrong PINs, you may need to reset the card PIN before using it again.
  5. If the branch has already destroyed it, or you cannot get there, request a replacement.

GTBank does not publish how long branches keep retained cards before destroying them. Because of that, treat collection as urgent; the longer you wait, the more likely you will need a new card.

Retained at another bank's ATM

When the machine belongs to another bank, that bank physically holds your card. Practice varies between banks: some return the card to the cardholder with ID, some send it to the issuing bank, and some destroy retained cards from other banks as a security step. GTBank's pages do not describe an inter-bank return process. The practical approach:

  • Visit the branch of the bank that owns the ATM and ask whether they can return it to you.
  • If they cannot, or the ATM is off-site with no branch nearby, assume the card is lost and block it.
  • Request a replacement from GTBank.

Block it if you cannot collect it soon

A card sitting in a machine you cannot reach is a risk. GTBank lists several ways to hotlist a debit card on its help centre:

RouteHow
USSDDial *737*51*10# from your registered number
GTWorld appUse the Block Card option
Internet bankingCard Hotlist menu
Emailgtassistant@gtbank.com from your registered email
PhoneGTConnect: +234 700 4826 66328 or +234 1 448 0000
Branch or ATMAt a branch, or the cardless hotlist option on a GTBank ATM

Detailed steps are in how to block a GTBank card with *737# or GTWorld.

Replacement cost and timing

The CBN Guide to Charges (effective 1 January 2020) sets a maximum of ₦1,000 for issuing a debit card and ₦1,000 for a replacement at the customer's request. In April 2026 the CBN published an exposure draft of a new guide that, TechCabal reported, would set card issuance at ₦1,500; as at October 2026 the draft's effective date had not been stated, so the 2020 figures are the published ceiling until the new guide takes effect. GTBank's own replacement fee is not on the pages we checked; ask the branch before you request.

Worked example

Example only. Ibrahim's card is retained at another bank's off-site ATM on a Friday night. He hotlists it at once with *737*51*10#, so nobody can use it. On Monday he requests a replacement at his branch. Under the 2020 CBN ceiling, the most he should be charged is ₦1,000. Meanwhile he withdraws cash without a card using *737*3*Amount# at a GTBank ATM; see GTBank cardless withdrawal.

Avoiding a retained card next time

  • Take the card as soon as the machine returns it, before waiting for cash or the receipt; many machines retain cards left in the slot.
  • If you are unsure of your PIN, stop after two attempts. GTBank lists three wrong PINs in a day among the causes of failed card transactions.
  • Check the card's expiry date and request a renewal before it lapses.
  • Keep within the daily ATM withdrawal limit on your card; GTBank lists exceeding it as a cause of declines.
  • Prefer ATMs inside a bank branch during banking hours, so that if the card is kept, staff are on hand.

If money was also lost

If the ATM kept your card mid-withdrawal and you were debited without receiving cash, report a dispense error. GTBank says errors on its own terminals are reversed within 24 hours and errors on other banks' terminals within 5 to 8 days; see failed ATM and POS refund timelines.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme security relies on an authenticator app and a transaction PIN; see Pryme security. Account details for each currency are in the app.

Questions people ask

ATM swallowed my GTBank card. What should I do?

Go to the branch that runs the ATM with ID as soon as possible. If you cannot collect it quickly, block it with *737*51*10# and request a replacement.

Can I collect my GTBank card from another bank's ATM?

Ask that bank's branch. Some banks return cards with ID, others destroy them; GTBank does not publish an inter-bank return process.

How much is GTBank card replacement?

The CBN 2020 Guide to Charges caps a customer-requested replacement at ₦1,000. GTBank's own figure was not on the pages we checked; ask the branch.

Why did the ATM retain my card?

Common reasons include a wrong PIN three times, a card left in the slot too long, an unreadable card, or a card already hotlisted.
