Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to set a monthly grooming budget in Nigeria

Barbing, braids, nails and skincare are regular costs. How to work out a monthly grooming figure, cut it without looking worse, and use credit carefully.

The short answer

Add up how often you use each service and what it really costs, divide longer cycles into a monthly figure, and set that amount aside on payday. Keep credit such as Loans on Spaces for occasional, larger treatments you can repay from known income, not for everyday grooming.

Why grooming needs its own line

For many people in Nigeria, looking presentable is part of work: client meetings, church, interviews, events. Grooming costs are regular but uneven. Barbing may be every week or two, braids every six weeks, and a facial now and then. Because they do not land on the same day each month, they often get paid from whatever is left, and then crowd out other bills.

A grooming budget turns those uneven costs into one predictable monthly figure.

Step 1: list services and how often you use them

ServiceTypical cycleHow to convert to monthly
BarbingEvery 1 to 2 weeksCost × visits per month
Braids or installEvery 5 to 8 weeksCost ÷ weeks × 4.3
Wash and set, retouchEvery 2 to 6 weeksCost ÷ weeks × 4.3
Nails, manicure, pedicureEvery 2 to 4 weeksCost ÷ weeks × 4.3
Skincare productsMonthly or longerCost ÷ months a product lasts
Spa or facialOccasionalAnnual total ÷ 12

Worked example

Example only. Kemi works in Port Harcourt.

ItemExample cost and cycleMonthly
Braids including extensions₦40,000 every 6 weeksAbout ₦28,700
Retouch and wash between styles₦8,000 every 6 weeksAbout ₦5,700
Pedicure₦10,000 every 4 weeksAbout ₦10,800
Skincare₦18,000 lasting 2 months₦9,000
Facial₦30,000 three times a year₦7,500
TotalAbout ₦61,700

Example only. Emeka in Kaduna barbs weekly at ₦3,000, buys ₦6,000 of beard and skin products every two months, and has a facial twice a year at ₦20,000. His monthly figure is about ₦12,900 + ₦3,000 + ₦3,300 = about ₦19,200.

Step 2: protect the money

Move the monthly grooming figure aside the day you are paid. Because big services like braids come every few weeks, the money builds up between visits. That build-up is what lets you pay ₦40,000 in one go without disrupting other bills.

  • Keep it separate from spending money so it is not used for something else.
  • If the pot runs short before a planned style, delay by a week rather than borrow.
  • Review the list every few months; prices and habits change.

Step 3: cut costs without looking worse

  • Stretch cycles slightly: a style that lasts seven weeks instead of six reduces the monthly cost by roughly one seventh.
  • Do simple maintenance at home: wash days, basic nail care, beard trims between barbing.
  • Buy products in sizes that last, and finish one before buying another.
  • Ask your regular salon or barber about loyalty prices or packages for repeat visits.
  • Book off-peak: some salons are less busy midweek and may offer better prices.

Where grooming sits in your wider budget

A grooming figure only makes sense next to everything else you pay. Before settling on it, list your fixed costs first: rent, transport, food, school fees if you have children, electricity and data. Grooming comes after those, alongside other personal spending such as clothes and outings. If the number you worked out in Step 1 does not fit once essentials are paid, the answer is to adjust the services or cycles, not to stretch the essentials.

It also helps to separate what you need for work from what you enjoy. A professional who meets clients daily may treat regular barbing as close to essential, while a monthly spa visit is a treat. Both are fine; knowing which is which tells you what to cut first when money is tight.

Work-related
Grooming you need to look presentable for your job or business. Protect this first.
Personal care
Skincare and basic maintenance that keep you comfortable. Keep it, but look for cheaper options.
Treats
Spa days, new styles for events, premium products. Plan these, and cut them first when needed.

When credit fits, and when it does not

Routine grooming should come from your budget. If you regularly need credit to barb or retouch, the budget is too small, or other costs are crowding it out. Credit can make sense for an occasional, larger treatment where the timing is awkward: an interview next week, salary the week after. In that case, the questions are the same as for any borrowing: how much exactly, what does it cost, and how will you repay?

Under the CBN's Consumer Protection Regulations, institutions it regulates must disclose terms clearly before you commit. Read every agreement before accepting, and compare the total you will repay with simply waiting. For the difference between a flat fee and an annual rate, see APR vs flat fee.

Where Pryme fits

In a Pryme Personal Account, a Flexible Savings Box can hold your grooming money; see Savings Boxes. Your Personal Assistant can remind you to move the monthly figure on payday, and it only acts when you approve. For occasional treatments at salons, barbers and spas in Spaces, you may be offered a Loans on Spaces limit; read paying salons and spas with Loans on Spaces.

Questions people ask

How much should I spend on hair monthly in Nigeria?

There is no single figure. Convert each service to a monthly cost based on how often you do it, add products, and check the total fits your income after essentials.

How can I save money on braids?

Choose styles that last longer, do maintenance at home, ask about repeat-customer prices and book off-peak days.

Is it bad to borrow for hair or barbing?

Borrowing for routine grooming usually means the budget needs fixing. Credit can suit an occasional, planned treatment you can repay from known income.

What is a sensible grooming budget for men in Nigeria?

Add barbing frequency, products and any occasional treatments, then convert to monthly. Weekly barbing is the largest part for many men.
