Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans on Spaces

Booking a hotel or shortlet with Loans on Spaces

How to pay a hotel or shortlet in the Spaces network on credit, what the agreement shows, and the checks that protect you from booking problems.

The short answer

If a hotel or shortlet operator is a Spaces merchant and a Loans on Spaces limit has been offered to you in the Pryme app, you can pay for your stay on credit after reading and accepting an agreement showing the amount, cost and repayment date. Check the booking terms, especially cancellation and caution deposits, before you accept.

How it works

Loans on Spaces is credit lent by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Ltd, licensed by the CBN, that can only be spent with merchants in Pryme's Spaces network. Hotels and shortlets are one of the supported sectors. The credit is paid straight to the hotel or shortlet operator; it is never paid to you as cash.

  1. Check the Pryme app for a Loans on Spaces offer. Offers are based on how your account is run, with credit bureau checks.
  2. Confirm the hotel or shortlet is a Spaces merchant. If it is not, the credit cannot be used there.
  3. Agree your dates, room or apartment, and the full price with the operator.
  4. Start the payment. The agreement shows the amount, cost of borrowing and repayment date.
  5. Read it and accept if it suits you. Nothing is drawn before you accept.
  6. Keep the booking confirmation and your receipt.

Hotels and shortlets are different

HotelShortlet apartment
Typical stayOne night to a weekA weekend to several weeks
Price includesRoom, often breakfastWhole apartment; utilities may be included or capped
Caution depositSometimes, at check-inCommon, refundable after inspection
RulesHotel policyHouse rules: guests, parties, noise, power use
Who you deal withFront deskHost or property manager

A caution deposit is money held against damage and returned after you leave. Ask whether it is part of the payment you are making through Spaces, or a separate amount. If it is separate and paid in cash, it comes from your own money. Ask how and when it is returned.

Checks before you book

Shortlet booking problems in Nigeria usually come from paying someone who does not control the property, or from unclear terms. These checks reduce the risk whichever way you pay.

  • Pay the business, not an individual's personal account, and keep the record.
  • Ask for the full address and photos or a video call of the actual apartment.
  • Get the cancellation policy, check-in and check-out times and the caution deposit terms in writing.
  • Ask what is included: power supply hours, generator or inverter, water, internet, cleaning.
  • Read recent reviews from more than one source if you can.

If a business misdescribes what you are paying for, the FCCPC's consumer rights apply, and you can complain if the operator does not put it right.

Worked example: a weekend shortlet

Example only. Ifeoma books a two-bedroom shortlet in Lekki for a family weekend, two nights at ₦85,000 a night. The operator is a Spaces merchant. A caution deposit of ₦50,000 is paid separately and refunded after inspection.

ItemExample amountHow paid
Two nights₦170,000Loans on Spaces, if she accepts
Caution deposit₦50,000Her own money, refunded later
Food and transport₦45,000Own money, or Spaces merchants where available

Her salary arrives a week after the weekend. Before accepting, she checks that ₦170,000 plus the cost of borrowing still leaves her rent and bills covered. She plans to repay in full on payday, and to put the refunded ₦50,000 deposit towards it if it arrives in time.

Longer stays

Shortlets are often booked for a week or more: while a flat is being renovated, when relatives visit from abroad, or during a relocation. For a long stay, the amount can be large, so look carefully at three things before accepting any credit agreement. First, whether the operator offers a lower weekly or monthly rate, which reduces what you borrow. Second, whether utilities such as power and diesel are included or charged on top, since these can add a noticeable amount over several weeks. Third, whether your repayment date falls after the money you expect to receive, such as salary or a relocation allowance. If the stay may be extended, agree the new dates and price with the operator before the original booking ends.

If something goes wrong

  • Cancelled by you: the operator's cancellation policy applies. The loan remains until it is repaid or a refund is processed.
  • Cancelled by the operator or not as described: ask for a refund in writing and keep your receipt. Contact Pryme support if the refund is not reflected.
  • Deposit not returned: ask for an itemised reason. If none is given, complain in writing and keep records.

A verifiable receipt, generated in the Pryme app through the partnership with VerifyDoc.ai, lets the operator or anyone else check that your payment record is genuine and unaltered, which helps in a dispute.

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme Personal Account you can see any Loans on Spaces offer, pay a Spaces hotel or shortlet, repay, and keep receipts together. For a trip that also needs transport, see paying for an interstate trip with Loans on Spaces. For planning a short break, see planning a staycation. Read more on Loans on Spaces and, for operators, pay-later for hotels.

Questions people ask

Can I pay for a hotel in Nigeria and pay later?

Yes, if the hotel is a Spaces merchant and you accept a Loans on Spaces agreement in the Pryme app. The hotel is paid now and you repay the lender by the date shown.

Can I use Loans on Spaces for a shortlet caution deposit?

Only if the deposit is part of the payment taken by the Spaces merchant. Ask the operator. A deposit paid separately in cash comes from your own money.

How do I avoid shortlet scams in Nigeria?

Pay the business rather than an individual, confirm the property exists with photos or a video call, get terms in writing and keep your payment records.

What happens if my hotel booking is cancelled?

The operator's policy applies. Keep your receipt, ask for a refund in writing and contact Pryme support if it does not appear.
