Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Grey fees: receiving, converting and withdrawing

Grey's published fees as at October 2026 for receiving USD, GBP and EUR, converting to naira, withdrawing, and the card, with worked examples.

The short answer

As at October 2026, Grey's own pages list a 0.8% deposit fee (minimum $2/£2/€2, maximum $10/£10/€10) for ACH, SEPA and Faster Payments, a 1% conversion fee capped at $6 for USD to naira, and a flat ₦35 to withdraw naira to a Nigerian bank. Wires carry flat fees in Grey's pricing FAQ. The app shows the fee before you confirm.

Grey's fee schedule, by stage

Grey charges at three points: when money arrives, when you convert it, and when you withdraw it. The figures below come from two Grey pages: its help-centre pricing FAQ dated 12 May 2025, which says the pricing took effect on 1 January 2025, and its US-to-Nigeria page, read in October 2026.

StageMethodFee stated by Grey
Receiving USDACH0.8%, min $2, max $10
Receiving USDFedwire$20 flat
Receiving EURSEPA0.8%, min €2, max €10
Receiving GBPFaster Payments0.8%, min £2, max £10
Receiving GBPBACS£15 flat
Receiving GBPCHAPS£25 flat
ConvertingUSD to NGN1%, capped at $6
WithdrawingNGN to a Nigerian bank₦35 flat (via NIBSS)
WithdrawingGBP or EUR to a bank abroad0.5%, min £2/€2, max £10/€10

Worked example: a $1,000 payment

Example only. A US client pays you $1,000 by ACH and you convert it all to naira and withdraw.

  1. Deposit fee: 0.8% of $1,000 is $8. That is within the $2 to $10 band, so $992 lands.
  2. Conversion fee: 1% of $992 is $9.92, but the cap is $6, so you pay $6. Grey's own FAQ notes that the effective conversion fee on $1,000 is 0.6%.
  3. $986 is converted to naira at the rate shown in the app at that moment.
  4. Withdrawal: ₦35 to send the naira to your bank.

Total Grey fees: $14 plus ₦35. On $1,000, the dollar fees come to 1.4% before the rate itself.

The same route on a smaller payment

Example only. A client pays $200 by ACH. 0.8% would be $1.60, so the $2 minimum applies and $198 lands. Converting $198 at 1% costs $1.98 (below the cap). Fees total $3.98 plus ₦35, which is about 2% of the $200. Minimums weigh more heavily on small payments, so batching invoices can lower your effective cost.

The exchange rate is part of the cost

The fee is only half of what conversion costs you. The other half is the rate. Grey says the live USD to NGN rate and the total fee are shown before you confirm, and that it does not adjust the rate after you send. Compare that rate with the official rate published by the CBN and with what other providers show at the same moment. A provider with a lower fee can still give you fewer naira if its rate is weaker. For timing decisions, see convert dollars to naira now or wait.

Receiving pounds and euros: when flat fees bite

The GBP side of the schedule has three routes with very different costs. Faster Payments, which most UK individuals and small firms use for everyday transfers, is percentage-based: 0.8% with a £2 minimum and £10 maximum. BACS, often used by UK companies for supplier and payroll runs, is a flat £15. CHAPS, a same-day high-value route, is a flat £25.

Example only: a UK agency pays you £300. By Faster Payments, 0.8% is £2.40. By BACS, the fee is £15, which is 5% of the payment. Before you invoice a UK client, ask which route their finance team uses, and if it is BACS for small amounts, consider asking them to use Faster Payments instead. On the euro side, SEPA deposits follow the same 0.8% pattern with a €2 minimum and €10 maximum, so a €100 payment costs the €2 minimum.

Card costs

Grey's blog says creating a virtual card costs $5 with no monthly maintenance fee, and that purchases on non-USD websites carry a 2% plus $0.50 cross-border fee. Card funding and decline charges were not listed on the pages we read; check the card screen in the app. Details are in the Grey virtual card guide.

What to check first

  • Which method your payer uses: ACH and Faster Payments are percentage-based; Fedwire, BACS and CHAPS are flat, so a small BACS payment is expensive in proportion.
  • Whether you need naira now or can hold the currency; converting less often reduces the number of conversion fees.
  • The rate shown against the CBN official rate at the same time.
  • Grey's fee articles by currency in its help centre, which list deposit and withdrawal fees for NGN, USD, GBP and EUR separately.

To see how Grey's published fees line up against similar apps, read Grey vs Geegpay vs Cleva vs Raenest.

Where Pryme fits

If you compare providers, compare on the same payment. Pryme's Swap shows the rate first and the fee on its own line, and nothing converts until you approve, so you can put the two side by side before you move money. Foreign balances sit in a multicurrency account in the currency they arrived in.

Questions people ask

How much does Grey charge to receive dollars?

As at October 2026, Grey's pricing FAQ lists 0.8% for ACH deposits (minimum $2, maximum $10) and a flat $20 for Fedwire. The app shows the charge on each deposit.

What is Grey's naira withdrawal fee?

Grey's US-to-Nigeria page lists a flat ₦35 to withdraw naira to a Nigerian bank through NIBSS, as at October 2026.

Does Grey charge for converting dollars to naira?

Yes. Grey states 1% capped at $6 for USD to NGN, in addition to the exchange rate shown before you confirm.

Why did Grey charge me more than 0.8%?

Small payments hit the $2 minimum, wires and BACS or CHAPS payments carry flat fees, and conversion adds a separate charge. Check the transaction details in the app for the breakdown.
