Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

How to open a Grey USD account from Nigeria

Step-by-step: signing up to Grey from Nigeria, the identity checks, where to find your USD account and routing numbers, and what to check first.

The short answer

To open a Grey USD account from Nigeria, download the Grey app, sign up selecting Nigeria, complete identity verification with a Nigerian ID, then open the USD account to see your account number and ACH routing number. Grey says verification with a Nigerian ID takes a few minutes, and identity checks are required before you can receive or withdraw money.

What you are actually opening

A Grey USD account is not a domiciliary account at a Nigerian bank. It is a set of US account details issued through Grey, a financial technology company whose footer says banking services are provided by licensed banking partners and whose US arm, Grey Inc, is registered with FinCEN. The details let a US payer, or a platform that pays US bank accounts, send dollars to you. If you are weighing this against a bank domiciliary account, read domiciliary account vs multicurrency account first.

What you need before you start

  • A smartphone with the Grey app, or access to Grey on the web.
  • A valid Nigerian identity document. Grey's PayPal guide for Nigeria says KYC is completed with a Nigerian ID; the app lists the documents it currently accepts.
  • An email address and phone number you control.
  • An authenticator app. Grey's safety article says every login requires a time-sensitive code from an authenticator app.
  • Your legal name exactly as it appears on your ID, because payers and platforms often check that names match.

Steps to open the account

  1. Download the Grey app from your phone's app store and create an account with your email and a strong password.
  2. Select Nigeria as your country when asked. Grey runs separate flows for different countries.
  3. Set up two-factor authentication with an authenticator app and create your transaction PIN.
  4. Complete KYC: enter your personal details and submit your Nigerian ID as the app requests. Grey's Nigeria guide says this takes a few minutes when the details are clear and match.
  5. Once verified, open the USD account from the accounts screen.
  6. Copy the account number and ACH routing number shown. These are what you give to a client or enter on a platform.
  7. Send yourself a small test payment if you can, so you see the deposit fee and timing before a large invoice is paid.

Button names in the app can change between versions, so follow the labels on your screen if they differ from the wording above.

What it costs to receive dollars

Opening the account itself is not described as carrying a charge on the Grey pages we read. Receiving money does. Grey's pricing FAQ, dated 12 May 2025, lists these deposit fees for USD:

How the money arrivesGrey fee (as at Oct 2026)
ACH0.8%, minimum $2, maximum $10
Fedwire (domestic US wire)$20 flat

Grey's US-to-Nigeria page, by contrast, says Grey does not charge a stated wire fee while your bank may charge its own. Because the two pages differ, check the fee the app shows on your account. A full breakdown is in Grey fees: receiving, converting and withdrawing.

Worked example

Example only: a client pays you $400 by ACH. At 0.8%, the fee is $3.20, which sits between the $2 minimum and $10 maximum, so $396.80 reaches your USD balance. If the same client paid $150, 0.8% would be $1.20, so the $2 minimum applies and $148 arrives.

If verification does not go through

Most failed sign-ups come down to a few avoidable things: a blurred or cropped photo of the ID, a name typed differently from the document (a missing middle name, initials, or a swapped surname), an expired document, or a selfie taken in poor light. Fix the detail and resubmit rather than opening a second account, which can trigger further review. Grey's safety article also says transactions may be held for verification when they look unusual, so a new account that suddenly receives a large payment may be asked for more information.

If the app shows verification as pending for longer than you expected, contact support from inside the app and keep the reference you are given. Our guide to a restricted or stuck Grey account walks through the likely causes and the route to follow.

What to check first

  • That your payer sends by ACH or US wire. A payer outside the US sending an international SWIFT payment may need different details; ask the app or support before invoicing.
  • That the name on your Grey account matches your platform profile exactly.
  • How long you can wait. Grey says ACH deposits take one to two business days to reach your Grey balance.
  • The limits that apply to converting and withdrawing, covered in withdrawing from Grey to a Nigerian bank.
  • Whether the platform paying you accepts Grey details at all; see receiving Upwork, Fiverr or PayPal payouts into Grey.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal account can be opened from any country and includes USD account details alongside NGN, GBP and EUR in one multicurrency account. Naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN. You can open an account and compare the fees shown in the app with any other provider before you choose where to be paid.

Questions people ask

Can a Nigerian open a Grey USD account?

Yes. Grey supports Nigerian users who sign up selecting Nigeria and complete identity verification with a Nigerian ID. The USD account details appear once verification is done.

What documents does Grey need for a USD account?

Grey's Nigeria guide says KYC uses a Nigerian ID. The app shows which ID types it currently accepts, and its help centre has a KYC verification section.

Is opening a Grey USD account free?

The Grey pages we read do not list an account opening fee. Receiving money carries deposit fees, such as 0.8% (minimum $2, maximum $10) for ACH, as at October 2026.

Where do I see my Grey USD account number and routing number?

Open the USD account in the app after verification. It shows the account number and ACH routing number to give your payer.
