Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Goat rearing for Sallah and Christmas: cost and margins

Rearing goats for festive sales in Nigeria: buying young goats, feeding, health, time to sale and festive pricing, with a worked naira example.

The short answer

Festive goat rearing means buying young goats months before Eid-el-Kabir (Sallah) or Christmas, feeding and keeping them healthy, and selling when demand and prices peak. The margin comes from the gap between buying and festive selling prices minus feed, health care and losses, and it is easily wiped out by a few deaths or a weak market.

How festive goat rearing works

Demand for goats and rams rises sharply before Eid-el-Kabir, when many Muslim households buy an animal for sacrifice, and again before Christmas and New Year, when families and groups buy goats for celebrations. A rearer buys young or lean goats some months ahead, often from northern markets or local breeders, feeds them up and sells close to the festival when buyers pay more for healthy, well-fleshed animals.

This is different from breeding goats year-round, which needs a herd, bucks and a longer view. Festive rearing is a short cycle: buy, feed, sell.

What prices look like

Festive goat prices are set at market and vary by size, breed, condition and city. One recent published snapshot: in June 2024, ahead of Eid-el-Kabir, a goat seller in Lagos told Gazette Nigeria that dwarf goats were selling for about ₦80,000, up from ₦70,000 the year before, with larger goats quoted at ₦150,000 to ₦200,000. That is more than two years old; prices since then have moved with food inflation, which the NBS put at 19.59% year on year in September 2026. Visit markets near you in the weeks before the festival to see current prices.

Worked example: 10 goats, four months

This is an example with assumed figures.

ItemAssumptionAmount
Buy 10 young goats₦45,000 each₦450,000
Feed supplement₦4,000 per goat per month × 4 months × 10₦160,000
Vet care, deworming, vaccines₦30,000
Housing (simple pen)₦100,000
Transport (buying and selling)₦40,000
Total cost₦780,000
Losses1 goat dies
Sell 9 goats at Sallah₦95,000 each₦855,000
Profit₦855,000 − ₦780,000₦75,000

₦75,000 on ₦780,000 over four months is a thin return, and it hides your own labour. Two changes show the risk. If feed costs ₦6,000 per goat per month instead of ₦4,000, cost rises by ₦80,000 and the profit becomes a ₦5,000 loss. If two goats die instead of one, revenue falls by ₦95,000. The opposite also holds: selling at ₦110,000 each adds ₦135,000. The pen is reusable, so a second cycle carries less cost.

Buying the right animals

The animals you start with set the ceiling on your profit. Look for goats that are alert, with bright eyes, clean noses, firm droppings and no limping. Check teeth to estimate age, and run your hand along the back and ribs to judge condition. Avoid animals with swollen joints, coughs, diarrhoea or patchy coats. Buying from the same trusted seller each season, and asking where the animals came from, reduces the chance of bringing disease into your pen.

Breed and size matter to buyers. Some customers want a small goat that fits a family budget; others want the largest animal they can afford. Mixing sizes lets you serve both. Keep receipts for every purchase, and agree with the seller what happens if an animal falls sick within the first days.

Feeding and health

  • Graze where you can, and supplement with crop residues, wheat offal, groundnut haulms or other affordable feed; an extension officer can advise on rations.
  • Deworm on arrival and keep new goats apart from any existing herd for a few weeks.
  • Vaccinate against the diseases a local vet recommends for your area.
  • Keep the pen dry, raised and well ventilated; damp floors cause foot and chest problems.
  • Weigh or measure goats monthly so you know whether feeding is working.

Timing the sale

Most rearers aim to sell in the last two weeks before the festival, when demand is highest. Selling too early gives up the peak; holding too long risks being left with animals after the market cools. Agree some sales in advance with regular buyers, workplaces or groups, and keep a few animals for walk-in buyers near the day. Eid-el-Kabir follows the Islamic lunar calendar and falls earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar, so check the expected date when planning.

Financing and insurance

The Bank of Agriculture's loan requirements page, updated September 2025, lists production loans at 9% interest and a livestock insurance charge of 2.5% through NAIC, alongside appraisal and management fees, with a lien deposit for micro loans. Those are the bank's stated terms at that date; confirm them directly and compare total cost before borrowing.

What to check first

  1. Visit the markets you plan to buy from and sell in, and note prices with dates.
  2. Find a vet and an extension officer before buying animals.
  3. Build the pen before the goats arrive.
  4. Line up buyers ahead of the festival.
  5. Keep a record of every cost and sale; see bookkeeping for small businesses.

For other small livestock, compare the planned guides to grasscutter farming and rabbit farming.

Where Pryme fits

Money set aside to buy animals can sit in a Flexible Savings Box until market day, and buyers can pay by transfer into a Pryme Business Account.

Questions people ask

How much profit can I make from goats during Sallah?

It depends on buying price, feed and losses. In our example, 10 goats gave ₦75,000 profit over four months with one death; higher feed costs turned it into a loss.

When should I buy goats for Sallah sale?

Many rearers buy three to four months ahead to allow time for feeding. Check the expected Eid-el-Kabir date, which falls earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar.

How much is a goat in Nigeria now?

It varies by size, breed and city. In June 2024 a Lagos seller quoted dwarf goats at about ₦80,000; check markets near you for current prices.

What do I feed goats to fatten them fast?

Grazing plus supplements such as wheat offal, crop residues and groundnut haulms. Ask an extension officer or vet for a ration suited to your area.
