Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Groundnut oil processing: press cost and pricing per litre

How small groundnut oil processors in Nigeria press, filter and price oil per litre, why groundnut cake matters, and NAFDAC edible oil steps.

The short answer

A small groundnut oil business presses shelled kernels in a screw expeller, filters the oil, bottles it and sells the leftover cake for kuli-kuli or feed. In our labelled example, 100kg of kernels gives about 38 litres of oil and 60kg of cake, and the cake income brings the oil cost down to about ₦3,513 a litre. Packaged edible oil sold in shops needs NAFDAC registration, which includes a Certificate of Analysis covering vitamin A fortification.

How small-scale groundnut oil processing works

Traditional processors roast and pound groundnuts, then knead the paste to squeeze out oil, which is also how kuli-kuli is made. Small mechanised processors use a screw press (expeller), which crushes kernels and pushes oil out under pressure. The steps are:

  1. Buy shelled kernels, or shell them yourself with a decorticator.
  2. Sort out mouldy, shrivelled and discoloured nuts; mould can carry aflatoxin.
  3. Clean and, for some presses, lightly roast or warm the kernels.
  4. Press in the expeller; oil runs out one side and cake comes out the other.
  5. Let the oil settle, then filter it until clear.
  6. Bottle in clean, dry containers and seal.

Sourcing kernels

Groundnut is a seasonal crop, so kernel prices tend to be lowest soon after harvest and rise as stocks run down. Processors with storage and working capital buy in bulk when prices are low; those without it buy smaller lots through the year and accept higher costs. Either way, quality decides your yield and the safety of your oil.

  • Buy dry kernels. Damp nuts press poorly, go mouldy in storage and raise aflatoxin risk.
  • Check a sample before paying: crack a handful, look for mould, insect damage and shrivelled nuts.
  • Store in clean sacks on pallets, off the floor and away from walls, in a dry, ventilated room.
  • Weigh every sack on delivery; a short sack is a direct hit on your margin.
  • Record price per kg and supplier for every lot, so you know which suppliers give the best yield, not just the lowest price.

If you shell your own nuts, the shells can be sold or used as fuel, which offsets a little of your cost.

The press and other equipment

Expellers are sold by capacity (kg of kernels per hour), drive (electric motor or diesel engine) and whether they have a built-in heater and filter. You will also need a sorting table, settling drums, a filter or filter press, a scale and a bottling area. We did not find a reliable published price list for groundnut expellers in Nigeria as at October 2026; get at least three quotes and ask about output on groundnut specifically, the price of replacement screws, power draw and after-sales support.

Yield: the number that sets your price

How much oil you get depends on the kernel variety, moisture, how dry and clean the nuts are, and your press. Small expellers leave more oil in the cake than industrial solvent extraction. Do not rely on a dealer's yield claim: press a measured 50kg or 100kg lot on the machine before buying, and weigh the oil and cake.

Worked example: pressing 100kg of kernels (example figures)

Example only. We assume 35kg of oil (about 38 litres) and 60kg of cake from 100kg of kernels, with 5kg lost to sorting and spillage. Prices are illustrative. Replace them with your own.

Cost line (example)Amount
100kg kernels at ₦1,500/kg₦150,000
Power or diesel₦10,000
Labour₦10,000
38 one-litre bottles and labels at ₦250₦9,500
Filter material₦2,000
Total₦181,500
Income (example)Amount
38 litres of oil at ₦4,000₦152,000
60kg cake at ₦800/kg₦48,000
Total₦200,000

The batch leaves ₦18,500 (₦200,000 − ₦181,500) before rent and equipment wear. Without the cake, it would lose ₦29,500. Taking the cake income off the cost, oil costs (₦181,500 − ₦48,000) ÷ 38 = about ₦3,513 a litre. That is why most profitable small mills have a firm buyer for cake, such as kuli-kuli makers or feed mills.

Pricing per litre and who buys

Groundnut oil competes on taste and purity. Buyers include households who prefer it for frying, food vendors, kuli-kuli and chin chin makers, and resellers in markets. Price per litre against your cost after the cake credit, the price of comparable bottled oils in your area, and the size of the container: many buyers want 4-litre and 25-litre kegs, which save you bottle costs. The National Bureau of Statistics does not publish groundnut oil prices in the food price figures we read; its nearest line is palm oil, which averaged ₦2,396.32 a litre nationally in April 2026, as reported by ThisDay. Use it as a market signal, not a benchmark for groundnut oil.

NAFDAC registration for packaged edible oil

According to a Mondaq summary (29 May 2025) of NAFDAC's process, packaged edible oil applications go through NAFDAC's NAPAMS portal and include CAC and TIN documents, labels, samples, a Certificate of Analysis including vitamin A fortification, a fumigation certificate and food handlers' medical tests. NAFDAC then vets, inspects, analyses samples and issues a registration number. The NAFDAC tariff effective June 2019 listed ₦20,000 to register a local food product for a micro enterprise; check the current fee. See NAFDAC registration costs.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account takes transfers from resellers and pays farmers, and bulk payouts help when you buy from several suppliers at once. For your cake, see kuli-kuli production; for pricing in rising markets, pricing when costs rise.

Questions people ask

How many litres of oil from 100kg of groundnut?

It depends on kernels and press. Our example assumes about 38 litres; test-press a measured lot on your machine.

How much is groundnut oil press machine in Nigeria?

We found no reliable published price list as at October 2026. Get three quotes and ask about output on groundnut, power and spare screws.

What do I do with groundnut cake?

Sell it to kuli-kuli makers or feed mills, or make kuli-kuli yourself. In our example, cake income turns a loss into a profit.

Do I need NAFDAC to sell groundnut oil?

To sell packaged oil in shops, yes. The process includes a Certificate of Analysis covering vitamin A fortification.
