Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Getting a state ID in the US as a Nigerian

What a state ID office asks a Nigerian passport holder for: lawful presence, SSN, two proofs of address. Texas DPS rules as a worked example.

The short answer

Each state issues its own ID, but the pattern is the same: proof of identity, proof of lawful presence (for a Nigerian, usually a valid passport with US visa and I-94, a green card or an EAD), your Social Security number and proof of address. In Texas, DPS says it verifies your SSN electronically and cannot issue an ID card if it cannot be verified, wants two residency documents, and may take up to 45 days if your status cannot be confirmed instantly.

A state ID card, or a driving licence, is the photo ID Americans use for everything from collecting a parcel to opening a bank account. For a Nigerian newly in the US, carrying a passport everywhere is risky; losing it means a trip to the consulate (see what to do if you lose your Nigerian passport in the US). A state ID is the practical answer, and getting one is mostly a matter of bringing the right papers in the right order.

State ID and REAL ID

REAL ID is a federal standard for state-issued cards, and it decides which state cards federal agencies accept for their own purposes, airport security among them. It is the reason state document lists are long and exact. Because federal enforcement details change, check the Department of Homeland Security's REAL ID pages and your state's site before you travel on a state card alone; a valid passport remains a fallback.

What every state asks for

  1. Identity. Original or certified documents; photocopies are usually refused.
  2. Lawful presence in the US, for non-citizens.
  3. Social Security number, or in some states proof you are not eligible for one.
  4. Residence in that state, usually two documents with your name and address.

Worked example: Texas

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) handles both licences and ID cards. Its DL-57 form (revised March 2026) and its ID card and lawful presence pages set out the steps.

Lawful presence documents

DPS lists, among others:

  • A valid, unexpired foreign passport with a visa (the visa itself may be valid or expired) and a valid I-94
  • A valid, unexpired permanent resident card (Form I-551)
  • A valid, unexpired employment authorisation document (I-766)

DPS verifies most immigration documents through the federal SAVE programme. If that check is not instant, DL-57 warns your card may be delayed by up to 45 days. DPS also refers to Limited-Term licences. If you are on a temporary visa, ask whether your card will be limited-term and when it will expire.

Identity

The primary identity list on DL-57 names Texas licences and IDs, US passports, citizenship certificates, US military IDs and DHS or USCIS photo IDs. A Nigerian passport is not on that printed list. Do not assume your passport covers identity as well as lawful presence; confirm what applies to you using the DPS REAL ID Document Check application, which builds a checklist for your visit.

Social Security number

DPS says it verifies your full SSN electronically with the Social Security Administration and that if it cannot be verified, the application cannot be processed. If you do not yet have an SSN, wait for it; the Texas office will not issue without it.

Texas residency

  • Two documents showing the same name and Texas residential address, such as a lease and a utility bill.
  • Bills must be dated within 180 days; mail with forwarding labels is refused.
  • First-time applicants must have lived in Texas for at least 30 days.
  • If you lack two documents, someone at the same address can sign a residency affidavit with their own ID and two residency documents.

Practicalities

  • Book an appointment before you visit a DPS office.
  • Texas ID cards are valid for up to six years for those eligible for the full term.
  • If you already hold a Texas driving licence, you must surrender it to get an ID card, because Texas does not issue both.

Why people are turned away

  • Bringing photocopies. DL-57 says identity documents must be originals or certified copies; only residency proofs may be copies.
  • Bills older than 180 days, or post with a forwarding sticker.
  • Two address documents in slightly different names, for example with and without a middle name.
  • Arriving without an appointment.
  • Applying before 30 days of Texas residence as a first-time applicant.

Other states

New York, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey and others follow the same four headings but differ in detail: which documents count, whether a passport alone proves identity, and how they treat applicants without an SSN. Check your state DMV's own document list, and compare our state guides, for example Maryland MVA.

Keep your Nigerian passport valid

Almost every route for a Nigerian starts with a valid passport. If yours expires within a few months, renewing first saves a second trip to the ID office, because the Texas lawful presence list, for example, requires a valid, unexpired foreign passport. See booking a Nigerian passport renewal in the US.

What to check first

  • Is your passport valid and are your visa and I-94 consistent with it?
  • Do you have your SSN, and does the name match your passport exactly?
  • Do you have two address documents dated within the state's limit?
  • Have you booked the appointment and used the state's document checklist tool?

Where Pryme fits

A state ID is often what a US bank wants to see. If you also bank in Nigeria, keeping your name identical across passport, SSN and BVN avoids mismatches later, which matters for transfers between your US account and a Pryme account. See how Pryme protects your account.

Questions people ask

Can I get a Texas ID with a Nigerian passport?

A valid Nigerian passport with a US visa and valid I-94 is listed by Texas DPS as a lawful presence document. You also need your SSN, which DPS verifies, and two Texas address documents.

Can I get a state ID without an SSN?

Not in Texas, where DPS cannot issue an ID if it cannot verify your SSN. Other states have their own rules; check your DMV.

How long does a Texas ID take for a non-citizen?

If the federal SAVE check is not instant, DPS says the card may be delayed up to 45 days.

Will my state ID expire when my visa expires?

It may. Texas DPS refers to Limited-Term licences; ask the office what expiry date your card will carry. Other states set their own rules.
