Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Getting an NPC birth certificate from Canada for IRCC

How to get a National Population Commission birth certificate or attestation while living in Canada, using NPC's new portal and the Ottawa mission.

The short answer

The National Population Commission (NPC) issues Nigerian birth certificates, and since mid-2026 its self-service portal lets applicants register births, apply for birth attestation, correct records and verify certificates online; Nigerians abroad can start the process from Canada. Leadership reported a ₦5,000 online processing fee in August 2026. Check IRCC's own checklist for which Nigerian document your application needs.

What the NPC certificate is

The NPC is the body that registers births in Nigeria. The US State Department's guide to Nigerian civil documents describes the NPC "Certificate of Birth", issued at NPC offices in local government secretariats and designated health centres, and notes that the NPC does not issue certified copies. Older births are often evidenced by an NPC attestation of birth instead. Canadian immigration applications frequently ask for a birth certificate, so Nigerians in Canada often need one long after leaving.

The NPC's online portal

Two reports in mid-2026 describe NPC's move online:

  • Peoples Gazette (NAN), 24 July 2026: the NPC's digital registration system became operational nationwide on 1 July 2026, replacing the paper process used since 1988, and Nigerians abroad can initiate birth and death registration online.
  • Leadership, 4 August 2026: the platform lets Nigerians register births and deaths, apply for birth attestation, correct civil registration records and verify certificates. The birth registration portal is birthreg-selfservice.nationalpopulation.gov.ng.

Leadership's report gives these terms for birth registration on the portal:

ItemAs reported (Aug 2026)
Online processing fee₦5,000
Under-five registration at NPC centresFree
EligibilityBorn in Nigeria; child has a NIN; at least one parent Nigerian; one parent has a valid birth certificate
DownloadOnce; another copy needs a reprint application
PaymentsNon-refundable

Those eligibility terms are written for registering a child's birth. The report does not set out the steps, fee or documents for an adult's birth attestation, which is what most people in Canada need. Check the portal's own instructions before paying.

Using it for IRCC

IRCC sets its own document requirements for each application, and we have not reproduced them here. Before ordering anything from Nigeria, open the document checklist for your application and check: which Nigerian birth document it accepts, whether it wants a translation (Nigerian certificates are in English), and whether it wants an original or a copy. If your birth was never registered, IRCC's instructions may allow other evidence; our guide to declarations of age for Canada covers the common fallback.

Authentication through Ottawa

If a Canadian body asks for a legalised Nigerian document, the Nigeria High Commission in Ottawa's legalisation page says Nigerian-issued documents, including birth certificates, are first authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria, then legalised by the mission for CAD $100, in 10 business days, paid by money order or bank draft to "Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa". The same page offers attestation letters confirming Nigerian heritage for non-Nigerian passport holders, at CAD $100 plus a CAD $50 administrative fee. See legalisation at the Ottawa mission.

If a relative in Nigeria is helping

Many people still ask family to visit the NPC office in their local government area, especially for older births. Before they go, send them a scan of your passport data page and NIN slip, your full names in the order they appear on those documents, your parents' full names and your exact place of birth. A certificate with a name in a different order from your passport can cause the same matching problems in Canada that it causes with Nigerian records. Ask them to check every line before leaving the office, since a correction later means another application.

Worked example

Example only: Emeka, in Toronto, is applying for Canadian citizenship and finds his checklist asks for a birth document. He was born in Enugu in 1988 and has never had an NPC document. He checks the checklist for which Nigerian documents it accepts, then applies for a birth attestation through the NPC portal, paying in naira. When it arrives as a download, he saves the file and prints copies. His Canadian application does not ask for legalisation, so he does not pay the Ottawa mission's CAD $100 fee.

Steps

  1. Check your IRCC checklist for the birth document it accepts.
  2. Make sure your NIN details are right; the NPC portal's birth registration terms rely on NIN.
  3. Apply on the NPC self-service portal, or ask a relative to visit the NPC office in your local government area.
  4. Pay only on the portal and keep the receipt; payments are non-refundable.
  5. Download the certificate (once) and store it safely.
  6. If a Canadian body asks for legalisation, route it through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then the Ottawa mission.

Common problems

  • Different date of birth on other records. If your passport or NIN shows a different date, fix the records before you submit; see fixing a wrong date of birth.
  • Lost original. See replacing a lost Nigerian birth certificate.
  • Agents. Use the NPC portal or an NPC office directly. A certificate bought through an intermediary may not verify on the NPC's system.

Where Pryme fits

NPC fees are charged in naira. A Pryme Personal Account opened from Canada holds naira you can pay from, and verifiable receipts through VerifyDoc.ai give you proof of what you paid.

Questions people ask

Can I get my NPC birth certificate online from Canada?

Reports from July and August 2026 say Nigerians abroad can start NPC processes online through its self-service portal, including birth attestation.

How much is the NPC birth certificate online?

Leadership reported a ₦5,000 online processing fee for birth registration on the portal in August 2026. Check the portal for attestation fees.

Does IRCC accept a Nigerian birth attestation?

Check the document checklist for your IRCC application; requirements differ by application.

Can the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa issue a birth certificate?

No. Its legalisation page covers authenticating Nigerian documents for CAD $100 after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the NPC issues the certificate.
