Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Fixing a wrong date of birth on a Nigerian passport in Canada

How a date-of-birth error on a Nigerian passport is fixed from Canada: NIN first, then a data correction with an affidavit, publication and a fee.

The short answer

A wrong date of birth on a Nigerian passport is fixed through an NIS "correction of data" request, but from Canada the NIN record has to be right first, because the Ottawa mission requires the names and details on the request, passport and NIN to match. NIS lists a non-refundable ₦30,000 correction fee (Service Level Agreement 2026) and asks for an application letter, a court affidavit, a newspaper publication and proof of age such as an NPC birth certificate.

Why this is harder than a renewal

A date of birth is one of the details that ties your passport to your other records. When the passport portal builds an application, the NIS says it pulls your details from your NIMC record and compares your current passport with your NIN data. So if the passport is wrong and the NIN is right, the request is a correction; if both are wrong, the NIN is fixed first. The Ottawa mission's page says plainly that names on the request, passport and NIN must match, and a staff reply on its site (July 2023) said a date-of-birth error on a NIN slip is corrected through a NIN vendor.

Which record is wrong?

SituationWhat to fix firstThen
Passport wrong, NIN rightNothing on NINNIS correction of data on the passport
NIN wrong, passport rightNIN record via an enrolment centreRenew normally once NIN matches
Both wrongNIN record firstNIS correction of data
Birth certificate also wrongThe proof of age itselfNIN, then passport

The Nigeria library explains how NIN date-of-birth corrections work. From Canada, the mission lists NIN centres on its site.

What NIS asks for in a correction

The NIS's passports page groups correction of errors with changes of name. Both are applied for online, carry a non-refundable administrative charge, and need uploaded supporting documents:

  • An application letter explaining the error and the correct date.
  • A court affidavit setting out the correct details.
  • A newspaper publication of the correction.
  • Proof of age: an NPC birth certificate or a declaration of age.
  • A state of origin certificate.
  • The data page of the passport being corrected.

The NIS Service Level Agreement 2026 puts the correction-of-data administrative fee at ₦30,000, non-refundable, and a 21-day turnaround for corrections. That fee is on top of the passport fee itself: the NIS diaspora fees are $150 for a 32-page booklet and $230 for a 64-page booklet (NIS release, 28 August 2025).

Proof of age when you were born in Nigeria

If your NPC birth certificate is missing, or itself shows the wrong date, sort that out before the affidavit; see getting an NPC birth certificate from Canada and when a declaration of age is used.

How Ottawa fits into it

The Ottawa mission publishes fees and lists for renewals, marriage and divorce changes and lost passports, but its pages do not set out a separate list for date-of-birth corrections. Two things it does say matter here:

  • On a marriage name change, only the surname can change; first name, middle name, date and place of birth "cannot change" by that route. A date-of-birth change is a different request.
  • A staff reply on its site (2023) said name changes are handled in Abuja, not Ottawa, and can take months. Expect data corrections to go the same way, and plan travel around it.

Before paying anything, email the mission with your passport number, the error and what your NIN shows, and ask which application type to choose on the portal. NIS refund rules do not cover errors made after payment.

A word on changing your date of birth elsewhere

Your bank BVN record also carries a date of birth. The 2021 CBN BVN framework, as reported by Technext, allows a date-of-birth change only once. If your passport, NIN and BVN all need the same fix, gather one consistent set of evidence and use it for all three. Canadian records (IRCC, CRA) may also show the date from your passport; correcting the Nigerian side does not update them.

Worked example

Example only: Ada's passport shows 1990 as her birth year, but her NPC birth certificate and her NIN both show 1991. Her NIN is already right, so she does not need a NIN correction. She arranges the court affidavit NIS asks for (a Nigerian lawyer can say how that is done for someone living abroad), places a newspaper notice, and gathers her NPC certificate and state of origin certificate. She pays the NIS passport fee and the ₦30,000 correction charge online, then the CAD $50 mission fee by money order. If her NIN had also shown 1990, she would have fixed that first, or the portal's comparison with her NIN record would have failed.

Steps

  1. Compare the date on your passport, NIN slip, BVN and birth certificate.
  2. Fix the NIN first if it is wrong.
  3. Swear the affidavit and arrange the newspaper publication.
  4. Ask the Ottawa mission which application to use, then apply and pay on the NIS portal.
  5. Attend with originals, the CAD $50 mission fee and the Express Post envelope.

Where Pryme fits

Newspaper notices, affidavits and the ₦30,000 NIS charge are all naira costs. A Pryme Personal Account holds naira you can pay from while living in Canada, with verifiable receipts through VerifyDoc.ai if you need proof of payment.

Questions people ask

Can I correct my date of birth on my Nigerian passport in Canada?

Yes, through an NIS correction of data request. The Ottawa mission requires your passport details to match your NIN, so the NIN must be right first.

How much is the passport date of birth correction fee?

The NIS Service Level Agreement 2026 lists ₦30,000, non-refundable, on top of the passport fee.

Do I need an affidavit for a date of birth correction?

Yes. NIS asks for a court affidavit, a newspaper publication, an application letter and proof of age.

How long does a Nigerian passport data correction take?

The NIS 2026 agreement gives 21 days, but the Ottawa mission has said name changes are handled in Abuja and can take months.
