Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

What should a freelance contract with a Nigerian client include?

The clauses that matter when you work from Ghana for a Nigerian client: scope, payment, currency, tax, late payment, disputes and governing law.

The short answer

At minimum: who the parties are and where each is based, the scope and deliverables, fees with the currency and payment route, who bears transfer charges and Nigerian withholding tax, late-payment terms, ownership of the work, termination, governing law and how disputes are settled. For a cross-border deal, an arbitration or mediation clause is often easier to enforce than a court judgment in another country.

Why the cross-border details matter

A contract between a freelancer in Accra and a client in Lagos has the usual parts of any service agreement, plus a few that only matter because you are in different countries: the currency, the payment route, Nigerian withholding tax, and which country's law and courts apply. This guide lists the clauses and what each should say. It is information, not legal advice; for a large contract, have a lawyer review it.

The clauses

Parties
Full legal names, addresses, and the client's CAC number. State that you are resident in Ghana.
Scope and deliverables
What you will deliver, in what format, by when, and what is not included.
Changes
How extra work is requested and priced, in writing, before it starts.
Fees
Amount, whether fixed or per hour or day, and the deposit.
Currency and route
The invoice currency, the account it is paid to, and any rate-adjustment rule.
Charges
Who pays bank and transfer charges at each end.
Tax
Whether fees are gross or net of Nigerian withholding tax, and that the client will provide the WHT receipt. That fees are exclusive of any VAT.
Payment terms
Days to pay after invoice, and what happens if payment is late.
Ownership
When rights in the work pass to the client, usually on full payment.
Confidentiality
What each side must keep confidential and for how long.
Termination
Notice period, and payment for work done to the date of termination.
Liability
A cap on your liability, often the fees paid.
Governing law and disputes
Which law applies and whether disputes go to mediation, arbitration or a court.

Currency, tax and payment

These three clauses prevent most cross-border disputes. Pick the invoice currency deliberately; our guide to invoicing in naira or cedis sets out who carries the risk. Then deal with withholding tax: a Nigerian company paying a non-resident for professional services generally deducts 10% under the 2024 regulations, so say whether the fee is gross or net. See will my client deduct WHT.

Late payment

There is no general statutory interest on late business invoices that we could confirm in Nigeria, so the contract has to provide it. Two common approaches are interest on overdue sums at a stated rate, and a fixed late-payment charge. Be careful with the second. Nigerian courts distinguish between liquidated damages, which are a genuine pre-estimate of loss and are enforceable without proof of loss, and penalties, which are set to deter and are unenforceable, leaving you to prove your actual loss. BusinessDay's October 2025 summary cites the Supreme Court case Oyeneyin v Akinkugbe on the point. Keep a note of how you arrived at any fixed figure.

Governing law and disputes

You can choose Nigerian law, Ghanaian law or another system. The more practical question is enforcement: if the client does not pay, where will you act, and will the result be recognised there?

  • A court judgment from Ghana can be enforced in Nigeria only through a registration process. Under Nigeria's foreign judgments laws, as summarised by Global Legal Post (April 2026), registration is within 12 months of the judgment unless a court extends it, and can be refused on grounds such as lack of notice or jurisdiction.
  • An arbitration award is often easier to enforce. Nigeria's Arbitration and Mediation Act 2023 incorporates the New York Convention for awards from Convention states in commercial relationships, per the same summary.
  • The 2023 Act also makes mediated settlements binding and enforceable, according to a Mondaq summary, which suits smaller disputes.

For smaller contracts, a clause requiring mediation first, then arbitration with a named body and an online hearing, keeps costs down. Name the seat (the city whose law governs the arbitration) and the language.

Signing and records

  1. Sign electronically or exchange signed copies by email; keep both.
  2. Keep the client's CAC details and the name of the person who signed.
  3. Keep every change to scope in writing.
  4. Keep invoices, payment records and WHT receipts together.

For a fuller Nigerian template, see a freelance contract template for Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

Once the contract is signed, Invoicing on a Pryme Business Account lets you raise invoices in the agreed currency, and the Finance agent can prepare reminders as payment dates pass; nothing is sent without your approval.

Questions people ask

Which law should govern a contract with a Nigerian client?

Either country's law can work. Think about where you would enforce: arbitration awards are often easier to enforce across borders than court judgments.

Can I charge interest on late payment in Nigeria?

Only if the contract provides for it; we found no general statutory interest on late business invoices. Avoid fixed charges that look like penalties.

Is a Ghana court judgment enforceable in Nigeria?

Only after registration under Nigeria's foreign judgments laws, generally within 12 months, and it can be refused on set grounds.

Should my contract mention withholding tax?

Yes. Say whether fees are gross or net of Nigerian WHT and that the client will give you the WHT receipt.
