Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Selling to a Nigerian buyer: what is Form M?

Why your Nigerian buyer must open a Form M, how Valid for FX and the CBN's 30% advance cap affect when you get paid, and when to ship.

The short answer

Form M is the Nigerian importer's mandatory declaration of intention to import, filed through its bank and registered by Nigeria Customs. For a Spanish seller it matters because it fixes how the buyer can pay you (Valid or Not Valid for FX, LC or advance), limits advance payment to 30% of FOB value under the CBN's 2026 FX Manual, and should be registered before you ship.

What Form M is

Form M is the Nigerian importer's declaration that it intends to import physical goods. Sterling Bank's Form M guide says it is mandatory for all imports whatever their value and whether or not payment is made, and is filed electronically through the importer's bank (an authorised dealer) on the Single Window for Trade. The bank validates it, and the final stage is registration by the Nigeria Customs Service. Each Form M has a number beginning "MF".

You, the Spanish seller, do not file it. But nothing moves well without it: Nigeria Customs uses Form M to create the PAAR clearance document, and since 2025 Form M and PAAR are handled on Customs' B'Odogwu system.

Why it matters to a seller in Spain

1. It decides how your buyer can pay

Sterling's guide distinguishes a Form M Valid for FX, which lets the buyer buy foreign currency in the official market through its bank to pay you, from one Not Valid for FX, used where the buyer pays from its own foreign currency or no payment goes through the official market. The payment method is chosen on the Form M: letter of credit, bill for collection, advance payment, or not valid for FX. If you expect payment by LC, the Form M must say so.

2. It limits what you can get in advance

Under the CBN's Foreign Exchange Manual 2026 (in effect from 1 June 2026, as reported by WTS Blackwoodstone and Pavestones), the maximum down payment for physical imports rose from 15% to 30% of FOB value. A buyer paying through its bank may therefore be unable to send you more than 30% before shipment, whatever your terms say. Price the risk on the other 70%.

3. It sets the shipping clock

Sterling notes that suppliers may be told to ship only after Customs has registered the electronic Form M. Goods that arrive before the Form M is in place can sit at the port while the buyer catches up. And your proforma invoice, which the buyer attaches, has a maximum validity of 90 days from issue, so a delayed Form M can force you to reissue it.

What your buyer will ask you for

  • A proforma invoice with full product descriptions, HS codes, quantities, unit prices, Incoterm and currency.
  • The SONCAP Product Certificate for regulated goods; SON says it is issued to the exporter and supports the Form M.
  • Details the buyer needs for NAFDAC, quarantine or other permits where the product requires them.
  • Information for the insurance certificate, which Sterling says must cover 110% of the invoice value.

A worked timeline (example)

WeekEvent
1You agree a €40,000 order and issue a proforma invoice (valid 90 days).
1–3Accredited firm inspects and issues the SONCAP Product Certificate.
3–4Buyer's bank validates the Form M; Customs registers it; it is marked Valid for FX with payment by advance and balance on documents.
4Buyer pays the 30% advance: €12,000.
5You ship and send copies of the bill of lading.
6–8Buyer pays the balance of €28,000 (€40,000 − €12,000) and you release original documents.

The weeks are illustrative; real timings depend on the bank, the certifier and the port.

When things go wrong

  • The Form M is stuck at the bank. Usually a document is missing (an expired proforma, a missing product certificate, an insurance certificate below 110%). Ask the buyer which item the bank has queried and fix that document rather than resending everything.
  • The goods arrive before registration. Storage and demurrage charges run while the buyer catches up, and they are usually the buyer's cost under most Incoterms, but they strain the relationship and can delay your balance payment.
  • The buyer asks you to under-invoice. Refuse. The Form M, your invoice and the customs value must match, and Nigerian customs valuation looks at the transaction value.
  • The Form M is changed to Not Valid for FX. Ask how the buyer now intends to pay, because it will no longer buy currency through its bank for this import.

What to check first

  1. Ask for the Form M number and its status before you ship.
  2. Check whether it is Valid or Not Valid for FX, and which payment method it names.
  3. Confirm your proforma is still within its 90-day validity.
  4. Agree in writing what happens if the Form M is delayed or rejected.

For the full export route, see exporting from Spain to Nigeria. The Nigeria-side explainer Form A and Form M in Nigeria shows the buyer's view.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account can receive an advance and the balance in dollars or euros, keep each payment tied to its invoice through invoicing, and convert only when you choose; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Who fills in Form M, the Spanish seller or the Nigerian buyer?

The Nigerian buyer, through its bank. You supply the proforma invoice and certificates it relies on.

What does Valid for FX mean on a Form M?

The buyer can buy foreign currency through its bank in the official market to pay you. Not Valid for FX means the payment does not go through that market.

Can my Nigerian buyer pay 100% upfront?

Through the official market, advance payment for physical imports is capped at 30% of FOB value under the CBN's 2026 FX Manual.

How long is a proforma invoice valid for Form M?

Sterling Bank's Form M guide gives a maximum validity of 90 days from the date of issue.
