Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Flights from the US to Lagos in December: when to book

December fares to Lagos and Abuja rise as cheaper seats sell out. How the pricing works from Houston, Atlanta, New York and Dulles, and when to commit.

The short answer

For December travel from the US to Lagos or Abuja, book as soon as a fare fits your budget, which for most families means months ahead rather than weeks. The cheaper seats on peak dates, especially returns in early January, sell first and rarely come back. Price the trip from more than one US airport and include baggage, because bag rules change the real cost.

Why December fares behave the way they do

Airlines sell each flight in layers of fares. The lowest layer is a small number of seats; once those go, the next price applies, and so on up. On routes into Lagos and Abuja, December is the busiest stretch of the year for Nigerian families in the US: school holidays, Christmas, New Year, weddings and burials all land in the same few weeks. Demand fills the cheap layers early, so the price you see in October for 20 December is often already several layers up from what someone paid in the summer.

Two dates are usually the hardest to buy cheaply: the outbound weekend just before Christmas, and the return in the first week of January when schools in the US restart. A trip that leaves a few days earlier or comes back a few days later can price very differently, because those flights are less full.

When to book: a working timeline

No public statistic tells you the single cheapest day to book a December fare to Lagos, and anyone quoting one is guessing. What you can do is watch prices long enough to know what a normal fare looks like for your dates, then buy when one appears within your budget rather than waiting for a drop that may not come on peak dates.

WhenWhat to do
June to AugustFix your travel window with family and work. Set fare alerts on two or three routings for those exact dates.
August to SeptemberCompare departure airports and Lagos versus Abuja. Buy if a fare is within budget for the whole party.
OctoberRemaining cheap seats on 18 to 24 December outbounds and 2 to 6 January returns are thin. Consider shifting dates by a few days.
November onwardsExpect mostly higher fare layers on peak dates. Flexibility on dates or airports matters more than timing now.

Houston, Atlanta, New York or Dulles: comparing airports

Nigerians in the US tend to start from George Bush Intercontinental (IAH), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta (ATL), JFK in New York or Washington Dulles (IAD), depending on where they live. Which airlines fly from each of these airports to Lagos or Abuja, and whether they fly direct or connect in Europe, the Middle East or another African hub, changes from season to season. Check the airline sites for this December rather than relying on what flew last year.

  • Search the same dates from at least two airports. A short positioning flight to a bigger airport can be cheaper than a higher fare from home.
  • Price Lagos and Abuja separately. If family is in the south-east or the north, the arrival city changes your onward cost in Nigeria too.
  • Look at open-jaw tickets (into Lagos, out of Abuja) when the trip covers more than one city.
  • Check the minimum connection time and whether bags are checked through to Lagos on a split ticket. If they are not, a missed connection is your problem, not the airline's.

Baggage changes the real fare

For a December trip home, bags often cost as much attention as seats. Delta's own pages, for example, say a checked bag may total no more than 62 inches (length plus width plus height), that Main, Comfort and Premium Select customers follow a 50 lb limit per piece, and that on its "All Other International Destinations" table a third to tenth bag costs $200 each way, with overweight charges of $100 for 51 to 70 lbs and $200 for 71 to under 100 lbs (Delta pages accessed October 2026). How many bags are free on your fare is shown when you book; it varies by fare type and route. Our guide to excess baggage from the US to Nigeria works through the numbers.

Worked example (illustrative fares)

A family of four flying from Houston. Option A: a fare of $1,450 per person from IAH, total $5,800. Option B: a fare of $1,250 per person from another airport plus a $180 positioning flight each, which is $1,430 per person and $5,720 in total. Option B saves $80, but if the split ticket means one extra checked bag at $200 each way, that is $400 and Option A is cheaper by $320. These are example figures, not quotes; the point is to compare the trip, not the headline fare.

Documents and money for the trip

US citizens who are also Nigerian must use a US passport to enter and leave the United States, according to the State Department. Entering Nigeria, you will use your Nigerian passport or travel on your US passport with a Nigerian visa; check what applies to each family member, especially US-born children, well before booking.

On cash, CBN guidelines reported in June 2026 allow up to $10,000 in foreign currency without declaration, with larger sums declared at the point of entry. A safer pattern for December spending is to carry little cash and hold naira in an account you can reach from your phone. For leaving Nigeria with cash, see how much cash you can carry out of Nigeria.

What to check before you pay

  1. The exact dates every traveller can actually travel, including the return school date.
  2. The fare for the whole party from at least two airports.
  3. Free bag allowance on the fare type, and the cost of any extra or heavy bag.
  4. Passport validity and visa needs for each person.
  5. The change and cancellation rules on the fare. If a Nigerian domestic leg is delayed, NCAA rules apply; see passenger rights in Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme accounts can be opened from the US and hold USD and NGN in one place, so you can build the December fund in dollars and move only what you need into naira with Swap, which shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Our December trip budget guide covers the spending side, and multicurrency accounts explains how the balances work.

Questions people ask

When is the best time to book flights to Lagos for December?

As early as you can fix dates, and once a fare fits your budget. Cheap seats on peak December dates sell out first; waiting for a late drop on those dates rarely pays.

Is it cheaper to fly into Abuja than Lagos at Christmas?

Sometimes. Price both on the same dates and add your onward travel in Nigeria before deciding.

Why is the return in January so expensive?

Many families return in the first week of January as US schools restart, so those flights fill early. Returning a few days later can cost less.

Do I need a Nigerian visa if I have a US passport?

Foreign passport holders generally need a visa arranged before travel through the Nigeria Immigration Service. A valid Nigerian passport avoids that; check each family member separately with NIS or the Nigerian mission.
