Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

FirstAdvance repayment, liquidation and customer care

FirstBank takes FirstAdvance from your salary as it lands. Here is how repayment, early clearing, overdue charges and complaints work.

The short answer

FirstBank recovers FirstAdvance straight from your salary: its page says repayment "is taken immediately salary is received", with a lien on the account until then, and the 3-month version is repaid in monthly instalments. If the advance becomes overdue, FirstBank charges a 1% flat monthly penalty on the overdue amount plus interest, may report you to the CBN's credit register and may set off from any of your accounts. Complaints go to FirstBank and then the CBN.

How FirstAdvance repayment works

FirstAdvance is FirstBank's salary advance for customers whose salary is paid into a FirstBank account. Its product page, read in October 2026, sets out the repayment rules plainly, and they are stricter than most app loans because the bank controls the account your salary lands in.

  • Collection on salary: "Repayment is taken immediately salary is received, while a lien is placed on unfunded account." The lien means the bank can hold the account until there is money to collect.
  • 30-day version: the advance is cleared in full when the next salary arrives.
  • 3-month version: interest is repaid with principal monthly using the equal monthly instalment method, in 30-day cycles from disbursement to salary receipt.
  • Charges are taken upfront: interest of 3% flat per month, a 1% management fee, 1% credit life insurance and VAT of 7.5% on the management fee.

You request FirstAdvance by dialling *894*11# and choosing FirstAdvance, or *894# and option 3 (Get Loans), and accept with your transaction PIN. Eligibility is covered in FirstAdvance explained.

Worked example: a 30-day advance

This example uses the charges on FirstBank's page as at October 2026 and a loan amount we chose for illustration.

ItemBasisAmount on ₦200,000
Interest3% flat for one month₦6,000
Management fee1% flat₦2,000
VAT on management fee7.5% of ₦2,000₦150
Credit life insurance1%₦2,000
Total charges taken upfront₦10,150
Repaid from next salaryPrincipal₦200,000

On ₦200,000, the charges come to ₦10,150, about 5.1% of the amount for one month. Because they are collected at the start, the cost is the same whether your salary arrives on day 20 or day 30. Our guide to FirstAdvance's interest rate compares this with the 3-month version.

Can you liquidate FirstAdvance early?

FirstBank's page does not mention early repayment or prepayment. It says the facility is cleared in full on salary receipt or according to the agreed tenor. In practice:

  1. For the 30-day version, there is little to gain: the charges were taken upfront and the advance clears when salary lands.
  2. For the 3-month version, ask FirstBank, through the app's support, your branch or its official contact channels, whether paying the remaining principal early reduces the interest, and for a written payoff figure.
  3. Fund the account with that figure and ask for confirmation that the facility and any lien are closed.

If your salary is late or stops

This is where FirstAdvance can become expensive. According to the page:

  • An overdue advance attracts a 1% flat monthly penal charge on the overdue amount, plus the current interest rate on the unpaid sum until it is fully repaid.
  • Unpaid interest is added to the principal and itself attracts interest.
  • FirstBank may report a delinquent loan to the CBN through the Credit Risk Management System (CRMS).
  • FirstBank may set off what you owe from any account you hold with it, and may request set-off from accounts you hold at other banks.

Example of an overdue month (illustrative)

If ₦200,000 stays unpaid for one month after the due date, the penal charge is 1% of ₦200,000, or ₦2,000, and interest at 3% flat would add ₦6,000, so roughly ₦8,000 more that month before any compounding of unpaid interest. If you know your salary will be late, talk to FirstBank before the due date.

Customer care and complaints

The FirstAdvance page lists no contact details. Use the support section in FirstBank's app, your branch, or the contact page on firstbanknigeria.com for current numbers, which we did not verify here. When you complain, include your account number, the date of the advance and screenshots of any debit you dispute, and ask for a reference number.

FirstBank is supervised by the CBN, so an unresolved complaint goes to the CBN's consumer protection department; our guide to complaining to the CBN explains how. If you were declined, see why FirstAdvance may not be available to you.

What to check first

  • Your salary date against the advance date: an advance taken two days before pay day costs the same upfront charges as one taken on day one.
  • Whether your employer has changed where salaries are paid; FirstAdvance depends on the salary arriving in your FirstBank account.
  • Whether other loans or standing orders also take money as soon as salary lands, leaving too little for the month.
  • The overdue rules above, so a late salary does not catch you out.

If your employer pays salaries late as a pattern, the penal charge and compounding interest make FirstAdvance a poor fit; talk to the bank about another product, or plan without the advance.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme's Personal Assistant can remind you before a salary-linked repayment date and prepare transfers that only move when you approve them; see the Personal Assistant.

Questions people ask

How is FirstAdvance repaid?

Straight from your salary: FirstBank's page says repayment is taken as soon as salary is received, with a lien on the account until then. The 3-month version is repaid in monthly instalments.

Can I pay back FirstAdvance before my salary comes?

The page does not mention early repayment. Ask FirstBank whether funding the account early clears it and for a written payoff figure; on the 30-day version the charges were already taken upfront.

What happens if I don't pay FirstAdvance?

A 1% flat monthly penalty applies to the overdue sum plus interest, the loan can be reported to the CBN's CRMS, and FirstBank may set off from your accounts.

What are the FirstAdvance charges?

As at October 2026, FirstBank lists 3% flat interest per month, a 1% management fee, 1% credit life insurance and 7.5% VAT on the management fee, all taken upfront.
