Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

First Bank USSD code: every *894# function listed

Every FirstBank *894# code from the bank's own page: register, balance, transfer, airtime, data, bills, card control and how to switch USSD off.

The short answer

FirstBank's USSD banking code is *894#. Its own page lists *894*0# to register or reset your PIN, *894*00# for balance, *894*Amount*AccountNumber# to transfer, *894*Amount# for airtime, *894*2# for data, *894*3*CustomerID# for bills and *894*911# to deactivate your number on USSD; card blocking sits in the menu under Card control.

FirstBank calls its USSD service Quick Banking, and it works on any phone without data. The code is *894#. Dialling it opens two options: Quick Banking, for people with a FirstBank account, and Firstmonie, the bank's e-wallet, which non-customers can also use. This guide lists every shortcut FirstBank publishes on its USSD page (checked October 2026), explains what each does, and flags what the page does not tell you.

The full list of *894# shortcodes

What you want to doCode to dial

Deactivate your number on USSD*894*911#

Source: FirstBank's USSD page, accessed October 2026. Replace the words with the figures, with no spaces or commas: a ₦5,000 transfer to account 0123456789 is dialled as *894*5000*0123456789#. That account number is an example.

Before the codes work: registration

You must register once from the phone number linked to your account. FirstBank's page says the service is for individual account holders whose phone numbers are on its SMS alert platform. Joint accounts, corporate accounts and accounts with more than one signatory cannot use it. The page lists Airtel, MTN, Globacom and Etisalat as supported networks. Etisalat is a name that network no longer trades under, so if you are on another network and a session fails, check with your provider.

  1. Dial *894*0# from the phone number linked to your account.
  2. Pick your debit card from the masked list shown.
  3. Enter that card's 4-digit PIN.
  4. Create a new 5-digit Quick Banking PIN. You will use this PIN for transfers and other debits.

Because registration relies on a debit card, you need an active FirstBank card first. If yours has expired, request a new one before trying (see blocking and replacing a First Bank card).

Card control: blocking a card by USSD

There is no single shortcode for card blocking. Dial *894#, choose Quick Banking, move to the next page and select Card control. You can then block the card on one channel or all of them: ATM, POS, WEB, ALL CHANNELS or FOREIGN. The same menu has an unblock option. You confirm either action with your 5-digit PIN. Blocking only the FOREIGN or WEB channel is useful if you rarely shop abroad or online and want to cut the risk of misuse without stopping cash withdrawals.

*894*911#: stopping USSD on your number

*894*911# deactivates your phone number on FirstBank USSD. Use it if your phone or SIM is lost or stolen, so nobody can dial transfers from your line. After that, reactivate by registering again with *894*0# once you have your line back, or contact FirstContact. It does not block your card on its own, so if your wallet went missing with the phone, call FirstContact at once to block the card as well.

What the page does not tell you

  • Limits. FirstBank's USSD page does not publish daily or per-transaction USSD transfer limits. See First Bank daily transfer limits for what is and is not published.
  • Charges. The page states no fee. The CBN's Guide to Charges (effective January 2020) says USSD transfers attract the prevailing NIP transfer charges, and your network may charge for the session. Your bank statement shows what you actually paid.
  • Loans. FirstBank's FirstAdvance page says the salary loan can be reached through *894# (option 3, Get Loans) or *894*11#. It is a loan offer you must accept, with interest and fees set out on that page.
  • Account opening detail. The page lists *894*0# for account opening but does not explain the tier or limits of an account opened this way.

Keeping *894# safe

  • Never share your 5-digit PIN or your card PIN. FirstBank staff do not need them.
  • Delete messages that show your balance if others use your phone.
  • Treat calls asking you to dial a code and read back the response as fraud. If money has already gone, see what to do in the first hour after bank fraud.
  • If you change your phone number, update it with the bank first, or USSD will stop working from the new line.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is a technology company, not a bank; Naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank. A Pryme Personal Account handles airtime, data, electricity and TV in the app (airtime and data), and security uses an authenticator app and a transaction PIN rather than SMS codes (how Pryme secures your account). Many people keep *894# for a phone with no data and an app for everything else.

Questions people ask

What is the USSD code for First Bank transfer?

Dial *894*Amount*Account Number#, for example *894*5000*0123456789# for an example ₦5,000 transfer, then confirm with your 5-digit PIN. You must have registered with *894*0# first.

How do I check my First Bank balance with USSD?

Dial *894*00# from the phone number linked to your account and enter your 5-digit PIN when asked.

How do I reset my First Bank USSD PIN?

Dial *894*0#, choose reset PIN, select your debit card, enter the card's 4-digit PIN and create a new 5-digit PIN.

How do I block my First Bank card with *894#?

Dial *894#, choose Quick Banking, go to the next page and select Card control, then choose ATM, POS, WEB, ALL CHANNELS or FOREIGN and confirm with your PIN.
