Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Filling in a W-4 as a new Nigerian employee in the US

Form W-4 sets how much federal tax your employer withholds. Each 2026 step, the extra rules for nonresident aliens, and a worked example.

The short answer

Form W-4 tells your employer how much federal income tax to withhold. On the 2026 form you give your filing status (Step 1), account for a second job or working spouse (Step 2), claim $2,200 per qualifying child under 17 and $500 per other dependant if income is within the limits (Step 3), add other adjustments (Step 4) and sign (Step 5). If you are a nonresident alien for tax purposes, the IRS says to read Notice 1392 first.

First: are you a resident or nonresident for tax?

Before filling anything in, work out your tax status, because it changes how the form is completed. Under IRS rules you are a resident alien if you hold a green card at any time in the year, or if you meet the substantial presence test (at least 31 days in the current year and 183 days over three years using a weighted count). Most Nigerians arriving on immigrant visas or work visas become residents; many F-1 students start as nonresidents. Our guide to filing in your first year covers the tests.

The 2026 Form W-4 says that a nonresident alien should see "Notice 1392, Supplemental Form W-4 Instructions for Nonresident Aliens" before completing the form. Those instructions limit some of the choices below.

The five steps on the 2026 form

Step 1: personal information and filing status

Your name, address and Social Security number, and one filing status: single or married filing separately; married filing jointly or qualifying surviving spouse; or head of household, which the form restricts to unmarried people who pay more than half the costs of keeping up a home for themselves and a qualifying individual. Use your name exactly as it appears on your Social Security card.

Step 2: multiple jobs or a spouse who works

Complete this only if you hold more than one job at a time or are married filing jointly and your spouse works. Pick one option: (a) the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator, which the form calls the most accurate and recommends if there is self-employment income; (b) the Multiple Jobs Worksheet, with the result entered in Step 4(c); or (c) a checkbox, used only when there are two jobs in total and ticked on both W-4s. Complete Steps 3 to 4(b) on one W-4 only, ideally the one for the highest-paying job.

Step 3: dependants and credits

For 2026, multiply qualifying children under 17 by $2,200 and other dependants by $500, add any other credits, and enter the total. This applies if your total income is $200,000 or less ($400,000 or less if married filing jointly). Children living in Nigeria do not automatically qualify; dependency rules turn on residence, relationship and identification numbers, so check before claiming. See claiming parents in Nigeria as dependants.

Step 4: other adjustments

  • 4(a) Other income not from jobs, such as interest or dividends, if you want tax withheld on it. Interest from Nigerian accounts is income for US residents.
  • 4(b) Deductions from the Deductions Worksheet if you expect more than the standard deduction. The 2026 worksheet has lines for qualified tips (up to $25,000), qualified overtime (up to $12,500, or $25,000 married filing jointly), passenger vehicle loan interest (up to $10,000) and a $6,000 amount for those aged 65 or over, each with income limits.
  • 4(c) Extra withholding per pay period, including any amount from the Multiple Jobs Worksheet.

Step 5: sign

The form is not valid unless signed and dated. You give it to your employer, who uses it to work out each paycheck's withholding.

Worked example

Example only. Bayo is married with two children aged 6 and 9, all living with him in Atlanta and holding Social Security numbers. His wife does not work and his income is under $400,000. He ticks married filing jointly in Step 1, skips Step 2, and in Step 3 enters 2 × $2,200 = $4,400. He has $600 a year of interest from a Nigerian deposit that no one withholds on, so he enters $600 in Step 4(a). He leaves 4(b) blank and, wanting a small cushion, enters $20 in 4(c).

Claiming exempt: usually not for newcomers

You may claim exemption from withholding for 2026 only if you had no federal income tax liability in 2025 and expect none in 2026. To keep the exemption into 2027 you must submit a new W-4 by 16 February 2027. Someone who arrives mid-year and earns a full salary will rarely meet the second condition.

Getting it right over the year

  1. Check your first paycheck against the form (see your first paycheck explained).
  2. Run the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator after a few pay periods.
  3. Submit a new W-4 after marriage, a birth, a second job or a spouse starting work.
  4. Keep a copy of every W-4 you give your employer.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme has no part in US withholding. If you hold savings in Nigeria, remember that interest earned there counts towards US income once you are a resident; a Pryme Personal Account can generate a verifiable statement through VerifyDoc.ai if your preparer needs a record (see receipts and statements).

Questions people ask

How do I fill in a W-4 as an immigrant?

Work out whether you are a resident or nonresident alien for tax first. Residents complete Steps 1 to 5 normally; nonresident aliens should read IRS Notice 1392 before completing it.

How much is the child amount on the 2026 W-4?

$2,200 per qualifying child under 17 and $500 per other dependant, if total income is $200,000 or less ($400,000 married filing jointly).

Can I claim exempt on my W-4 in my first year?

Only if you had no federal income tax liability in 2025 and expect none in 2026. Most people with a full-time salary do not qualify.

Should I include Nigerian income on my W-4?

You can enter other income such as Nigerian interest in Step 4(a) if you want tax withheld on it through your paycheck.
