Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

FGN bond primary auction: minimum subscription for diaspora

The DMO's minimum for FGN bond auctions is out of reach for most savers. Here is the figure, how auctions work, and the routes for smaller sums.

The short answer

The minimum subscription at a DMO primary auction for FGN bonds is ₦50 million, then multiples of ₦1,000, as stated in the DMO's August 2026 reopening announcement reported by NAN. The same rule applies whether you live in Nigeria or abroad. For smaller amounts, the routes are the monthly FGN Savings Bond from ₦5,000, buying existing FGN bonds on the secondary market through a broker or bank, or a bond or money market fund.

FGN bonds are naira bonds issued by the Federal Government through the Debt Management Office. Monthly auctions sell hundreds of billions of naira at a time, mainly to banks, pension funds and other institutions. Individuals can bid too, but the minimum puts most direct bids out of reach. This guide explains the figure, how an auction works and what to do with a smaller amount.

The minimum, and where it comes from

For its August 2026 reopenings of the January 2035, April 2037 and June 2038 bonds, the DMO's offer stated ₦1,000 per unit, minimum ₦50 million, then multiples of ₦1,000 (NAN, 13 August 2026). The same announcement said coupons are paid half-yearly with the principal repaid at maturity, the bonds count as government securities under the company and personal income tax laws, and they are listed on NGX and FMDQ.

There is no separate diaspora minimum. A Nigerian in London, Toronto or Dubai bidding at auction faces the same ₦50 million floor as a resident.

How a primary auction works

The DMO announces each month which bonds it is offering and how much. Bids go in through primary dealers, which are banks and dealing firms appointed for the purpose; individuals bid through them. Bids state an amount and a yield. The DMO decides the stop rate, the highest yield it accepts, and allots bonds to bids at or below it.

At the 19 October 2026 auction, for example, the DMO offered ₦1.75 trillion across three reopened bonds. Stop rates were 16.99% for the February 2034 bond, 17.29% for September 2036 and 17.19% for June 2038, according to Nairametrics, which also reported ₦800 billion in non-competitive allotments. On a reopening, the coupon stays the one set when the bond was first issued; the price you pay reflects the stop rate plus accrued interest (NAN).

Routes for smaller amounts

RouteMinimumHow you buyPoints to note
FGN Savings Bond₦5,000, then ₦1,000 units; maximum ₦50 millionDMO subscription portal or a DMO-appointed stockbrokerTwo- and three-year terms, offered monthly, quarterly coupons; a CSCS account is needed (the portal can open one)
Secondary market FGN bondSet by the dealerBank or broker dealing deskPrice moves with interest rates; you may buy a bond with years left to run
Bond or money market fundSet by the fundFund manager, often onlineDiversified, with fees; you own units, not bonds

In October 2026 the Savings Bond offer ran from 5 to 9 October at 13.071% for two years and 14.071% for three years, according to Nairametrics. Those rates change each month. The DMO portal FAQ says there is no transaction fee on primary Savings Bond subscriptions.

The Ledger explains both instruments in detail: how FGN bonds work and how FGN Savings Bonds work.

What you need from abroad

  1. A Nigerian bank account in naira, in your name, to pay and receive coupons.
  2. A CSCS account and Clearing House Number, opened through a stockbroker (or, for Savings Bonds, the DMO portal).
  3. Your BVN and NIN. The DMO required both for diaspora buyers of its 2024 dollar bond, and brokers commonly ask for them. If you have no BVN, see our guide to the non-resident BVN.
  4. A broker or bank that will accept you as a customer while you live abroad. Check it on the SEC register.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Waiting until the offer opens to set up accounts. Savings Bond offers run for a few days each month, and auctions follow the DMO calendar.
  • Sending money to an agent's personal account. Pay only to the broker's or bank's company account, or through the DMO portal.
  • Buying a long FGN bond with money you may need soon. Selling early means accepting the market price, which falls when yields rise.
  • Ignoring currency. Coupons arrive in naira; what they are worth in your home currency depends on the exchange rate on each payment date.

A worked example

An example of a Savings Bond purchase of ₦2,000,000 at an illustrative 14.00% a year with quarterly coupons:

ItemCalculationAmount
Yearly interest₦2,000,000 × 14.00%₦280,000
Each quarterly coupon₦280,000 ÷ 4₦70,000
Three years of coupons₦70,000 × 12₦840,000

FGN bond interest is exempt from the withholding tax the tax authority applied to short-term securities in 2025 (KPMG). Your country of residence may tax it. For coupons landing while you live abroad, see FGN bond coupon payments for the diaspora.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is not a primary dealer or broker. A Pryme naira account, held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, gives you naira account details to fund a purchase and receive coupons, subject to your broker's checks. Swap converts from pounds, dollars or euros with the rate and fee shown before you approve.
