Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

FGN bond coupons for diaspora holders: how they are paid

How often FGN bonds pay coupons, which naira account they land in, how to work out each payment, and what to do when you want it converted abroad.

The short answer

FGN bonds pay interest twice a year and repay the principal in one sum at maturity, according to the DMO's offer circulars. Each coupon is the bond's fixed coupon rate on your face value, divided by two, paid into the naira account linked to your broker or custodian. FGN Savings Bonds pay quarterly instead. To move coupons abroad you convert through an authorised dealer, keeping your inflow and purchase records.

How FGN bond coupons work

The DMO's June 2020 offer circular sets out the standard terms: bonds sold at ₦1,000 per unit, subject to a minimum subscription of ₦50,001,000 and multiples of ₦1,000 after that; interest paid twice a year; principal repaid in a single sum on maturity; listed on the Nigerian Exchange and FMDQ. Primary purchases go through primary dealer market makers, which in 2020 were 13 banks including Access, First Bank, Stanbic IBTC, UBA and Zenith.

The coupon rate is fixed for the life of the bond and applies to face value, whatever price you paid. If you bought in the secondary market below or above face value, your yield differs from the coupon, but the cash you receive each half-year does not.

Coupon rates on bonds now in issue

At the DMO's 19 October 2026 auction, reported by Nairametrics, three existing bonds were reopened: the February 2034 bond with a 19.00% coupon, the September 2036 bond with 16.79%, and the June 2038 bond with 15.45%. Stop rates (the yield at which new bonds were sold) were 16.99%, 17.29% and 17.19%. Coupon dates are set in each bond's offer documents; your broker's statement shows the next one.

Working out a coupon

Example only. You hold ₦60,000,000 face value of the June 2038 bond with a 15.45% coupon. Annual interest is ₦60,000,000 × 15.45% = ₦9,270,000. Each half-yearly coupon is ₦4,635,000. You receive that amount every six months until maturity, then the ₦60,000,000 principal.

The October 2026 Savings Bond offered 13.071% for two years and 14.071% for three years, with coupons on 14 January, April, July and October. Example only: ₦1,000,000 in the three-year bond pays ₦140,710 a year, or ₦35,177.50 a quarter. The DMO's dollar bond FAQ says the 2024 domestic dollar bond was open to Nigerians in the diaspora with a BVN and NIN, and repays principal in US dollars.

Where the coupon lands

Coupons are paid to the bank account recorded against your holding, usually a naira account in your name that your broker, bank or custodian has on file. If that account goes dormant or is closed, payments can be returned or held, so keep it active and update it before you close anything; see keeping an account active from abroad.

Tax

The 2020 circular describes FGN bonds as qualifying government securities for tax exemption. Reuters reported in October 2025 that while a new 10% withholding tax applies to short-term securities, FGN bond interest remains exempt. Tax where you live is separate and depends on local rules; see withholding tax on Nigerian interest. This is information, not advice.

When a coupon does not arrive

A missed coupon is usually an administrative problem rather than a default, but it needs chasing quickly from abroad. Work through these in order:

  1. Check the coupon date in the offer documents or your broker's statement; a payment due on a weekend or holiday may arrive on the next working day.
  2. Check the nominated account: is it active, unrestricted, and the one your broker or custodian has on file?
  3. Ask your broker or custodian in writing for the payment reference, the amount and the account it was sent to.
  4. If it was returned because the account was closed or dormant, give new account details in writing and ask for the payment to be resent.
  5. Keep copies of every message; if the problem persists, escalate to the firm's complaints channel.

The same checks apply to the final principal payment, which is far larger, so confirm the account details a few weeks before maturity.

Converting coupons and moving them abroad

  • Under the CBN's framework for Non-Resident Nigerian accounts, effective January 2025, naira balances in the investment account are repatriable on evidence of prior foreign inflows and related investment proceeds (Mondaq, May 2025). Keep the SWIFT confirmation for the money you sent in and the bond purchase confirmation.
  • Ask your broker for a coupon statement each time; it is the document an authorised dealer will want next to your account statement.
  • Decide whether to reinvest coupons in naira or convert them. Converting each one adds a margin every half-year; holding them adds currency exposure.

For buying bonds at auction from abroad, see FGN bond primary auction minimum; for moving savings out generally, repatriating naira savings. How FGN bonds work explains pricing and yields.

Where Pryme fits

Coupons paid in naira can sit next to your home currency in a Pryme Personal Account (multicurrency), and you convert with Swap only when you choose, seeing the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

How often do FGN bonds pay interest?

Twice a year, with principal repaid at maturity. FGN Savings Bonds pay quarterly.

Can I receive FGN bond coupons if I live abroad?

Yes. They are paid into the naira account linked to your holding, which you can hold while living abroad.

Are FGN bond coupons taxed?

FGN bonds are described by the DMO as qualifying for tax exemption, and an October 2025 report said FGN bond interest remains exempt. Check rules where you live.

What is the minimum to buy an FGN bond?

₦50,001,000 at primary auction under the DMO's standard terms. The FGN Savings Bond starts at ₦5,000.
