Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Farin Gada and Building Materials markets in Jos: a buyer's guide

What Farin Gada vegetable market and the Jos building materials market sell, how prices move with the seasons, and how to buy well, with labelled examples.

The short answer

Farin Gada in Jos is one of Plateau State's biggest vegetable markets, where tomatoes and other produce arrive by the lorryload and are sold by the basket; prices swing sharply with harvests, from around ₦3,000 to ₦5,000 a basket in a February 2025 glut to ₦26,000 to ₦100,000 in June 2024 (Daily Trust). The building materials market sells cement, rods, roofing and fittings; prices there move with national costs, so compare at least three sellers.

Two markets matter a lot to Jos household and business budgets. Farin Gada feeds kitchens, restaurants and traders across and beyond the state. The building materials market supplies the many people building on the Plateau. This guide covers what each sells, what drives prices, and how to buy without overpaying. Where we give prices, they are either from a named source with its date or labelled as examples.

Farin Gada: the vegetable market

Daily Trust describes Farin Gada as one of the biggest vegetable markets in Plateau State. Vehicles bring produce in from farming communities, and buyers come from within and outside the state, for resale or household use. Tomatoes are the best-known trade, alongside other vegetables grown on the Plateau and further north.

How prices move

Tomato prices are among the most volatile in Nigeria. In February 2025, Daily Trust reported a basket at Farin Gada selling for about ₦3,000 to ₦5,000 depending on size and quality, after harvests in several growing areas (Zaria, Katsina, Kano and Bauchi were named) arrived at the same time. Around Christmas 2024 a basket was about ₦10,000, and in June 2024 a big basket was ₦80,000 to ₦100,000, with the smallest at ₦26,000. Traders expected prices to rise again with the hot season from March. National data tell a similar story: NBS put the average price of tomatoes at ₦1,177.92 per kg in April 2026, as reported by ThisDay.

PeriodTomato basket at Farin Gada (reported)Source
June 2024₦26,000 (small) to ₦100,000 (big)Daily Trust, Feb 2025
Christmas 2024About ₦10,000Daily Trust, Feb 2025
February 2025About ₦3,000 to ₦5,000Daily Trust, Feb 2025

Buying well at Farin Gada

  • Go early. Fresh loads arrive and are sold first to traders; quality falls as the day goes on.
  • Agree the basket size before the price. A "basket" varies, and so does how full it is.
  • Check the bottom layer. Crushed or overripe fruit is often underneath.
  • Buy in a glut, process and store. Tomatoes can be blended and frozen or dried; restaurants and caterers save most this way.
  • If you resell, plan for losses. Farmers interviewed by Daily Trust said many cannot afford storage and sell at a loss when prices crash.

Worked example (illustrative)

A caterer buys four baskets at ₦5,000 each (₦20,000) and pays ₦3,000 for transport, a total of ₦23,000. If 10% spoils, the usable quantity is 3.6 baskets, so the effective cost is about ₦6,389 per basket (₦23,000 ÷ 3.6). At ₦15,000 a basket, the same four would cost ₦63,000 with transport and about ₦17,500 per usable basket. Buying in a glut and storing can cut a kitchen's tomato cost sharply.

Other produce

Besides tomatoes, Farin Gada traders handle a wide range of vegetables, and much Plateau produce passes through it on its way to other states. Prices of crops grown on the Plateau tend to move with the local planting and harvest calendar, while produce trucked in from the north follows harvests there. For Irish potatoes and vegetables grown around Jos, see Irish potato and vegetable farming near Jos.

The building materials market

Jos's building materials traders cluster in what residents call the Building Materials Market, selling cement, iron rods, roofing sheets, timber, tiles, plumbing and electrical fittings. We could not find an official price survey for this market, so all prices below are examples.

What drives prices

  • Cement and rods follow national manufacturer and import prices, which change with fuel, exchange rates and transport costs.
  • Roofing and tiles vary by gauge, thickness and brand; cheaper sheets can be thinner.
  • Transport from the market to your site can be a big extra; agree it in advance.
  • Bulk orders get better prices; ask for a written quote for the whole job.

Worked example (illustrative)

Suppose one seller quotes ₦10,500 a bag of cement and another ₦10,200. On 200 bags that is a difference of ₦60,000 (200 × ₦300). If the cheaper seller charges ₦40,000 more for delivery, the saving shrinks to ₦20,000. Always compare the delivered price.

Paying at either market

Cash still dominates, but CBN rules from December 2024 cap PoS agent cash-outs at ₦100,000 per customer per day, so larger purchases are usually made by bank transfer. When you pay by transfer, wait for the seller to confirm receipt on their own app, and get a written receipt or invoice for large orders. See how to spot a fake credit alert if you sell, and how prices change with the seasons in Jos.

Where Pryme fits

Traders with a Pryme Business Account can take bank transfers through checkout free of charge, and send invoices for bulk orders. Buyers can send payments and keep a verifiable receipt generated with Pryme's partner VerifyDoc.ai.

Questions people ask

Vegetables, especially tomatoes. Daily Trust describes it as one of the biggest vegetable markets in Plateau State, with produce trucked in from farming communities and buyers from across and beyond the state.

How much is a basket of tomatoes in Jos?

It changes with the season. Daily Trust reported about ₦3,000 to ₦5,000 at Farin Gada in February 2025, against up to ₦100,000 in June 2024. Ask on the day.

When are tomatoes cheapest in Jos?
