Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Monthly budget for a family in Ado-Ekiti: rent, school, feeding

A labelled monthly budget for a family of four in Ado-Ekiti, covering rent, school fees, feeding, power and health, and the lines that swing most.

The short answer

On our labelled example, a family of four renting a two-bedroom flat in Ado-Ekiti with two children in a mid-range private school spends about ₦390,000 a month before savings, with food the largest line. School fees, rent and power (BEDC band plus generator fuel) are the items that vary most between families. Ekiti's Ulera Wa programme, which offers free malaria treatment for children under five and free delivery at primary health centres, can lower health costs for young families.

Family budgets in Ado-Ekiti are shaped by three big decisions: where you rent, which school the children attend, and how you keep the lights on. Food takes the largest share every month, and it is the line most exposed to inflation. This guide builds a monthly budget for two adults and two school-age children, explains each line and shows which choices move the total most. All naira amounts other than official tariffs are labelled examples; replace them with your own quotes.

The example budget

Item (example)MonthlyAssumption
Rent₦40,000Two-bedroom flat at ₦480,000 a year, ÷ 12
Food₦180,000Home cooking, weekly market shopping
School fees₦45,000Two children at ₦90,000 a term each, three terms, ÷ 12
Transport₦35,000School runs and work trips
Electricity₦13,712200 kWh on BEDC Band B at ₦68.56, before VAT
Generator fuel₦30,000Backup for evenings
Data and airtime₦15,000Two adults
Health₦10,000Clinic visits and drugs not covered by a scheme
Toiletries and household₦20,000Cleaning, gas refill share, repairs
Total before savings₦388,712
Savings₦30,000Moved on pay day
Total with savings₦418,712

The lines that move most

School fees

Fees vary more than any other item. A public primary school costs far less than a private school, and private fees range widely by facilities and reputation. Remember extras: uniforms, books, levies, excursions and end-of-year events can add a large share on top of tuition. Converting termly fees into a monthly saving, as in the table, prevents a scramble at resumption. See private school fee ranges in Ado-Ekiti and saving for school fees term by term.

Rent

Landlords commonly want a year in advance. Areas close to the universities and the city centre usually cost more; quieter neighbourhoods further out cost less but add transport. See rent prices by area.

Feeding

NBS reported food inflation of 19.59% year on year in September 2026, well above headline inflation of 14.63%. A family that buys staples such as garri, rice and beans in bulk, cooks in batches and buys produce in season can cut this line noticeably. Not everything is cheaper in Ekiti: NBS data for April 2026 showed the state with the highest average price for bottled palm oil, ₦2,819.09.

Power

NERC's July 2025 order for BEDC sets ₦68.56 per kWh for Band B non-MD customers and ₦209.50 for Band A. The same 200 kWh would cost ₦41,900 on Band A, three times the Band B figure. Families on fewer supply hours spend more on generator fuel instead, so the true power cost is tariff plus fuel. See generator vs solar in Ado-Ekiti.

Health costs and the state scheme

The Ekiti State Health Insurance Scheme (EKHIS), set up under a 2016 state law, runs several plans, including an equity plan for vulnerable residents, a community-based plan, a formal plan for employees and a private plan. Its Ulerawa programme covers antenatal care, delivery, postnatal care, childcare, family planning and malaria treatment, and the state says it was scaled to 177 facilities across all 16 local government areas in 2023. Nairametrics reported in October 2023 that Ulera Wa offers free malaria treatment for children under five, pregnant women and the elderly, and free delivery at the state's primary health centres. Ask at your nearest primary health centre what is free today and how to enrol the family.

How this compares with pay

Ekiti approved a ₦70,000 minimum wage for its workers and pensioners from 1 December 2024. A household on two modest incomes may still fall short of the example total, which is why many families choose public schools, share accommodation with relatives, farm part of their food or run a side trade. The useful exercise is to rank your own lines by size and work on the top three.

Costs that do not appear every month

Festive periods, school resumption, family ceremonies and travel home can each cost as much as a month of feeding. Add up what you spent on these last year, divide by 12 and save that amount monthly alongside the savings line above. Example: ₦240,000 of yearly one-off costs means ₦20,000 a month.

Steps: make the budget work

  1. Write the yearly lumps (rent, school fees, festive costs) and divide each by 12.
  2. Move those amounts into separate savings on pay day.
  3. Track food spending for one month, then set a weekly market limit.
  4. Check your BEDC band and log supply hours for two weeks.
  5. Enrol the children in the state health scheme if you qualify.

Where Pryme fits

Naira Savings Boxes let you keep rent and school fees in separate pots, and Eva, the Personal Assistant, can prepare reminders and payments for you to approve. For a single-person version, see cost of living in Ado-Ekiti.

Questions people ask

How much does a family of four need monthly in Ado-Ekiti?

Our labelled example comes to about ₦390,000 before savings, but rent, school fees and power can move this a lot.

Is malaria treatment free in Ekiti?

Nairametrics reported in Oct 2023 that Ulera Wa offers free malaria treatment for under-fives, pregnant women and the elderly. Confirm at your local health centre.

How much is school fees in Ado-Ekiti?

It varies widely between public and private schools. Ask each school for a full list including levies and extras.

How can I reduce my family budget in Ekiti?

Focus on the largest lines: food bought in bulk and in season, rent location, and power costs including generator fuel.
