Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Fake money transfer websites and app clones: spotting them

How cloned remittance websites and fake apps take money meant for Nigeria, the checks that expose them, and what to do if you paid one.

The short answer

A cloned transfer site copies a real provider's name and look but uses a different web address, phone number or payment route, often reached through a search ad, social media post or message link. Open the provider only from the official app store listing or a bookmark you saved, check the firm against the regulator's register where you live and the CBN's list of licensed money transfer operators, and never pay a "transfer company" by bank transfer to a personal account or in crypto.

Fraudsters do not need to build a working money transfer business. They only need a page that looks like one for long enough to take a card payment or a bank transfer. Diaspora senders are an obvious target: they send regularly, they search for "best naira rate" and they are used to unfamiliar brand names. This guide covers the forms these clones take and the checks that catch them.

The usual forms

  • Look-alike websites. A domain one letter off, or the real name with an extra word ("-transfer", "-ng", "-rates"). Often promoted through paid search ads or social posts offering a rate well above everyone else's.
  • Clone firms. The FCA warns that clone firms use the name, address and even registration number of a real authorised firm, and changes only the contact details. Its advice is to check that the contact details match those on its Firm Checker.
  • Fake apps. Apps with a familiar logo listed under a different developer name, or sent as a download link outside the official store.
  • Fake "agents". Social media accounts offering to send for you at a special rate if you transfer to their account first. This is not a remittance service at all; see the risks of P2P naira swaps.

Regulators see the same tactic against themselves. In July 2026 the North Carolina Commissioner of Banks warned licensees of a fraudulent domain impersonating the NMLS Consumer Access register, and said it "should only be accessed through the official website or a trusted bookmark". If the register can be cloned, so can a transfer app.

Checks that expose a clone

  1. Start from the store or a bookmark. Install the app from the official app store and check the developer name matches the company. Save the website address once and use that bookmark, not search results or links in messages.
  2. Check the regulator. In the UK, search the FCA Financial Services Register and confirm the website and phone number match. The FCA Warning List lists firms it is concerned about, but it says a firm missing from that list may still be unauthorised. Elsewhere, use your own country's regulator; our guide on checking a transfer firm can pay into Nigeria covers the main ones.
  3. Check the Nigerian end. The CBN publishes a list of the international money transfer operators licensed by its Trade and Exchange Department. When read in October 2026 it had 108 entries, including Western Union, MoneyGram, WorldRemit, Remitly, a LemFi company and Afriex.
  4. Look at how you are asked to pay. Real providers take card payments or bank transfers into the company's own account inside the app. A request to pay an individual, a gift card or crypto is a scam.
  5. Treat an extreme rate as a warning. A quoted rate far above the market is the bait.

What a real provider will not do

  • Ask you to move the conversation to WhatsApp or Telegram to complete a transfer.
  • Ask for your card PIN, full online banking password or a one-time code by phone or message.
  • Ask you to pay a "release fee" or "tax" before the recipient is paid.

Worked example

Example only. Femi in Toronto sees a sponsored post offering a naira rate well above what his usual app shows. The link opens a site with the logo of a well-known provider. He notices the address differs from the one he has bookmarked and the "pay by e-transfer" option goes to a personal email address. He closes it, opens his bookmarked provider, and sees the real quote is in line with the market. He reports the post to the platform and the site to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

If you have already paid

  1. Call your card issuer or bank at once on the number on your card and ask them to stop or recall the payment. Card payments may be disputed through chargeback.
  2. Change any password you typed into the fake site, starting with email, and turn on 2-step verification; see protecting your transfer app account.
  3. Report it. In the UK, GOV.UK says to forward suspicious emails to report@phishing.gov.uk and texts to 7726, and to report losses to Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040 (England and Wales). In the US, IC3 says reports can, in some cases, help freeze stolen funds.
  4. If the money went to a Nigerian account, see paying a fraudster's Nigerian account.

For the wider picture of scams aimed at senders, the Nigeria library has a guide to money transfer scams targeting the diaspora.

Where Pryme fits

Open the Pryme app only from the official app stores or a bookmark of the Pryme website. Pryme security uses an authenticator app rather than SMS codes and a transaction PIN, and Pryme will never ask you for either. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve any conversion or transfer.

Questions people ask

How do I know if a money transfer website is fake?

Check the web address against a bookmark you saved, confirm the firm on your regulator's register, and be wary of rates far above the market or requests to pay a person.

What is a clone firm?

A scam that copies a real authorised firm's name and details but uses different contact details. The FCA advises checking contact details against its Firm Checker.

Is there a list of licensed transfer companies for Nigeria?

Yes. The CBN publishes a list of licensed international money transfer operators on its website.

I sent money through a fake app. Can I get it back?

Contact your bank or card issuer immediately to recall or dispute it, then report it. Quick action gives the best chance.
