Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Exporting a used car from the UK to Nigeria: steps

Age limits, DVLA export steps, Nigerian documents, duty lines and freight guides for shipping a used car from the UK to Nigeria.

The short answer

To export a used car from the UK to Nigeria, check the car is inside Nigeria's age limit, tell the DVLA through the permanent export section of the V5C, ship with the buyer's Form M and other documents, and expect Nigerian duty and levies at clearance. Sources differ on the age limit: the Nigeria Trade Information Portal and a US government guide say under 15 years from manufacture, while Nigerian reports since 2023 say 12 years, so treat 12 years as the safe limit unless the Customs Service confirms otherwise.

Shipping a used car from the UK to Nigeria, whether to sell or for a family member, involves two sets of rules: telling the DVLA the car has left, and meeting Nigeria's import rules on age, paperwork and duty. The Nigerian side is where most costly mistakes happen.

Step 1: check the car is allowed in

SourceWhat it says about ageDate
Nigeria Trade Information Portal, Importing motor vehiclesOnly vehicles less than 15 years from year of manufactureUndated, checked Oct 2026
International Trade Administration, Nigeria guide"Used motor vehicles above fifteen (15) years from the year of manufacture" prohibitedChanged 10 Apr 2025
Peoples Gazette, report of fiscal policy changeVehicles manufactured more than 12 years ago banned1 May 2023
Legit.ng, 2026 car import rulesMore than 12 years from manufacture prohibited; left-hand drive generally required18 Aug 2026

The two official pages and the two Nigerian news reports disagree, and the news reports are more recent. Until the Nigeria Customs Service confirms the current limit for your car, plan on 12 years. Legit.ng also reports that left-hand drive is generally required; most UK cars are right-hand drive, so confirm this with the buyer's clearing agent before you buy or ship.

Step 2: the UK side

  • Fill in the permanent export section of the V5C and send it to the DVLA; the details are in telling the DVLA you have exported a car.
  • If you are buying a car to export, GOV.UK says the seller must give you the full V5C, not just the new keeper slip.
  • Transfer or retain any private number plate before export, or the right to it is lost.
  • If you export as a business, the export declaration and records steps in GOV.UK's export guide apply; a freight forwarder usually handles them.
  • Cancel or adjust UK insurance once the car is shipped, and keep the shipping receipt as proof of the export date.

Step 3: the Nigerian documents

The Nigeria Trade Information Portal lists the documents for a vehicle import: Form M, proforma invoice, bill of lading or air waybill, a certificate of conformity for vehicles (CCVO), packing list, insurance certificate, and a product certificate where required. It says Form M is mandatory for vehicle imports above $10,000; see why your buyer needs a Form M.

Nigerian buyers can check a car's customs status after import. The Guardian reported in October 2025 that the Customs Service's verification system lets anyone enter a VIN and pay ₦15,000 to see the vehicle's status and duty payment information.

Step 4: duty and levies in Nigeria

The Trade Information Portal says duty varies by vehicle type, engine capacity and year, and is paid with VAT and levies at clearance. It does not publish rates. Legit.ng (27 August 2026), a secondary source, describes these lines under the 2026 fiscal policy measures from 1 July 2026:

  • import duty of 20% of the CIF value;
  • a surcharge of 7% of the duty;
  • ETLS of 0.5% of CIF;
  • a CISS charge and a NAC levy, which the article states inconsistently;
  • a green tax by engine size reported as 2% for 2,000 to 3,999cc and 4% for 4,000cc and above;
  • VAT of 7.5% on CIF plus the other charges.

Worked example

Example only, using the reported rates: a car with a CIF value of $8,000 would attract duty of $1,600, a surcharge of $112 (7% of $1,600) and ETLS of $40, so $1,752 before the NAC levy, CISS, green tax and VAT, which cannot be worked out reliably from the published reports. Ask a licensed clearing agent for a full estimate.

Step 5: freight

The Nigerian Shippers' Council publishes indicative container rates. For April to June 2026 it gave $2,455 for a 20ft and $3,241 for a 40ft laden container from Europe, including London and Liverpool, to Nigeria. These are guides, negotiable, and the PDF does not say what they include. Roll-on roll-off shipping is priced differently; get quotes.

Where Pryme fits

If a Nigerian buyer pays you, or you pay duty and agents in naira, a Pryme Business Account holds GBP, USD and NGN with local details for each, and Swap shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

How old can a car be to import into Nigeria?

Sources differ. The Nigeria Trade Information Portal and a US government guide say under 15 years from manufacture; Nigerian reports since 2023, most recently Legit.ng in August 2026, say 12 years. Confirm with the Customs Service and plan on 12.

Can I ship a right-hand drive car to Nigeria?

Legit.ng reported in August 2026 that left-hand drive is generally required. Most UK cars are right-hand drive, so confirm with a clearing agent before shipping.

What import duty is paid on a used car in Nigeria?

Legit.ng reported duty of 20% of CIF, a 7% surcharge on the duty, 0.5% ETLS and 7.5% VAT among other charges from 1 July 2026. The official portal does not publish rates; ask a clearing agent.

Do I need to tell the DVLA when I ship a car to Nigeria?

Yes. Send the permanent export section of the V5C to the DVLA and keep the rest of the log book for registration in Nigeria.
