Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Exporting car spare parts from the UK to Nigeria

New and used car parts to Nigeria: SONCAP product and shipment certificates, the used tyre ban, Form M and the UK export paperwork, with dated fees.

The short answer

New car spare parts from the UK to Nigeria are SONCAP-regulated products: the exporter needs a SONCAP product certificate and a SONCAP certificate for each shipment, and the Nigerian importer needs a Form M. SON's August 2022 fee schedule exempts used products other than automobiles from SONCAP, but used and retreaded tyres are on Nigeria's import prohibition list, and used items can need other permits.

Nigerian importers buy parts for many UK and European models. The rules differ sharply between new parts, used parts and tyres. Getting the category right before you quote saves a shipment from being held at Apapa or Tin Can.

New parts: SONCAP

SONCAP is the Standards Organisation of Nigeria's conformity assessment programme for regulated products. It works in two layers.

CertificateWhat it isFee (SON, effective 1 Aug 2022)
Product Certificate (PC), unregistered productConfirms the product meets the applicable standard; needed before the Form M$500
Product Certificate, registered productFor products registered with SON$1,000
Product Certificate, licensed productFor products under a licence route$2,000
SONCAP Certificate (SC)Issued per consignment; needed for customs clearance$350
AmendmentChange to a certificate$100
Non-Conformity ReportWhere goods fail$350

Bureau Veritas's SONCAP data sheet (Rev 8.4, October 2024) shows the same fees, says they are paid by the exporter, and lists the documents for a SONCAP certificate: a valid PC, final invoice, the e-Form M, the transport document, and the importer's RC number and TIN. It asks for at least a 4-digit HS code for the PC and a 10-digit code for the SC, and says destination inspection is not allowed, so the work is done before shipment. SON accredits named inspection firms to issue certificates; banks accept only PCs from approved firms for Form M, according to the SON fee schedule.

Used parts and tyres

  • Used tyres. The US ITA's summary of Nigeria's import prohibition list (changed April 2025) includes used and retreaded tyres. Do not ship them.
  • Other used parts. SON's fee schedule lists "used products other than automobiles" among SONCAP exemptions, and Bureau Veritas says second-hand goods under SONCAP are limited to vehicles. That does not make every used part freely importable: Sterling Bank's Form M guidance notes that used items may need NESREA permits, and parts that count as waste face separate rules. See used electronics and waste rules.
  • Used vehicles. Whole vehicles have age limits and their own rules. See exporting a car to Nigeria.

Form M, duty and the importer's side

Sterling Bank says a Form M is mandatory for importing physical goods irrespective of value, and that a SON product certificate is among the permits that may be needed, depending on the goods. Duty is set by the ECOWAS Common External Tariff, whose five bands run from 0% to 35%, with levies, excise and VAT that may be added, according to the US ITA's trade barriers page (September 2025). Your importer's clearing agent can work out the landed cost by HS code. For the documents banks ask Nigerian importers for, see proforma, Form M and PAAR.

Questions to ask your Nigerian buyer

  • Which parts, by part number and HS code, and are any of them used or remanufactured?
  • Has your company imported these products before, and do you have SONCAP product certificates for them already?
  • Will you open the Form M before we apply for the SONCAP Certificate, and how will you pay?
  • Who is your clearing agent, and has it given you a landed-cost estimate?

Getting certified: the order of work

  1. Classify every part by HS code. A mixed consignment of filters, pads and bulbs may cover several codes.
  2. Choose an accredited SONCAP firm and ask which standard each product is tested against and what test reports it accepts.
  3. Apply for the Product Certificate. Your importer uses it to open the Form M.
  4. Once the Form M is open and you have the final invoice, apply for the SONCAP Certificate for that consignment, with the transport document.
  5. Arrange any pre-shipment inspection or loading supervision the firm requires; Bureau Veritas notes that witnessed loading and sealing applies on some routes for full container loads.
  6. Ship only when the SC has been issued, and send copies to the importer and clearing agent.

A worked example

Example only. A Birmingham parts wholesaler ships a first consignment of new brake pads and filters, not previously registered with SON, to a Lagos importer. Using the SON August 2022 fees: one unregistered Product Certificate at $500 plus a SONCAP Certificate for the consignment at $350 comes to $850 in certification fees, before inspection firm charges, freight and Nigerian duty. A second consignment of the same products under a still-valid PC would need only a new SC at $350. Confirm current fees and validity with the accredited firm.

The UK side

  • Make a customs export declaration, or have a forwarder do it, and hold an EORI number even if the forwarder files it (business.gov.uk).
  • Keep the declaration as proof of export.
  • Get paid securely. See documentary collections and SONCAP for UK exporters.

Where Pryme fits

SONCAP fees are quoted in dollars and many Nigerian buyers pay in dollars. A Pryme Business Account holds USD and GBP on separate account details, so you can pay certification fees in dollars and convert the rest with Swap when you choose, with the rate and fee shown first.

Questions people ask

Do car spare parts need SONCAP to enter Nigeria?

New parts are regulated products and need a SONCAP Product Certificate and a SONCAP Certificate per shipment, issued by an accredited firm before shipping.

How much is a SONCAP certificate for spare parts?

SON's fee schedule effective 1 August 2022 lists $500, $1,000 or $2,000 for a Product Certificate depending on route, and $350 per consignment for the SONCAP Certificate. Check current fees with the accredited firm.

Can I export used tyres to Nigeria?

No. Used and retreaded tyres are on Nigeria's import prohibition list, according to the US ITA's summary changed in April 2025.

Do used car parts need SONCAP?

SON lists used products other than automobiles among SONCAP exemptions, but used items may need other permits such as NESREA, and some are treated as waste. Check with the importer's clearing agent.
