Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Make money

Building an emergency fund on ₦70,000 a month

A small-step plan to save one month of essential costs on the ₦70,000 minimum wage, where to keep the money, and what to do while it is still small.

The short answer

On ₦70,000 a month, aim first for one month of essential costs, saved in small fixed amounts. Saving ₦5,000 a month builds about ₦60,000 in a year; adding one windfall such as a festive bonus gets you there sooner. Keep it in a separate, insured account you can reach the same day.

Be realistic about ₦70,000

₦70,000 is the national minimum wage under the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, signed on 29 July 2024. It does not stretch far. The NBS Transport Fare Watch for February 2026 put the average within-city bus fare at ₦1,195.75 per trip, as reported by The Guardian. Two trips a day for 22 working days would be ₦52,613, most of the wage. Many minimum-wage earners walk part of the way, use a staff bus or live near work for that reason.

So the target here is modest: one month of essential costs, not the three to six months often quoted. One month is enough to absorb a common shock, a short illness, a stolen phone, a late salary, without a loan.

Work out your one-month target

List only what you must pay to keep a roof, eat and get to work. A labelled example for a single worker sharing a room:

Essential (example)Monthly
Rent share, saved monthly₦20,000
Food₦22,000
Transport₦12,000
Phone and data₦3,000
Toiletries and soap₦3,000
Power share₦2,000
Total essentials₦62,000

That leaves ₦8,000 for everything else, including the saving. The one-month target in this example is ₦62,000.

The small-step plan

  1. Months 1 to 2: save ₦5,000 each month into a separate account. You now have ₦10,000, enough for a pharmacy visit or a repair without borrowing.
  2. Months 3 to 12: keep the ₦5,000 going. By month 12 the fund holds ₦60,000.
  3. Add any windfall: half of a festive bonus, an overtime payment or a gift. One ₦10,000 addition brings the fund to ₦65,000 by month 11 (₦55,000 saved plus ₦10,000), past the ₦62,000 target.
  4. Once the target is reached, keep saving the ₦5,000 towards a second month or a rent goal.

If ₦5,000 is impossible, start at ₦2,000. The habit matters more than the amount in the first months; you can raise it at your next pay rise.

Finding the first ₦5,000

On a tight wage, savings come from small, repeated cuts rather than one big one. Look at what you spent last month, line by line, and try two or three of these:

  • Buy staples such as rice, garri and beans in bigger quantities with a colleague or neighbour and split them.
  • Cook at home on most working days and carry lunch.
  • Move to a cheaper data plan if you rarely use the whole bundle.
  • Walk one leg of the commute where it is safe.
  • Agree with family that support requests above a set amount wait until the fund is built.

Move the saving on payday, before you buy anything. Money left until the end of the month usually does not survive to be saved.

When to use it

Use the fund only for something unplanned and necessary: medical costs, a lost income week, an urgent repair. Festive spending, school fees and rent are known in advance; they need their own savings, not the emergency fund. Refill it before resuming other goals.

Where to keep it

  • Separate from your spending account, so it is not spent by accident.
  • Reachable the same day, so a hospital does not wait for a lock-in period to end.
  • In a licensed, insured institution. The NDIC's FAQ says cover is up to ₦5,000,000 per depositor at a commercial bank and ₦2,000,000 at a microfinance bank, far above this fund's size.
  • Not at home in cash, where theft, fire or family requests are the main risks.

Avoid products that charge a penalty for early withdrawal or only release money on fixed dates for this pot. They suit rent or fees, not emergencies.

Keep the target in line with prices

Your one-month target rises when your costs rise. The NBS put headline inflation at 14.63% year on year in September 2026, which means a list costing ₦62,000 a year ago would cost roughly ₦71,000 today if every item had risen at that average rate. Recheck your essentials list every six months and top the fund up to match.

Before you borrow

If an emergency hits before the fund is built, ask your employer first. The Labour Act, Cap L1, section 4, says an advance of wages may not exceed one month's wages, must be recovered over at least three months, and may not carry interest; it applies to workers as the Act defines them, which excludes administrative, executive, technical or professional staff. That is usually cheaper than a loan app; compare costs in salary advance in Nigeria. For a full budget at this income, see how to budget a ₦70,000 salary.

Where Pryme fits

A Flexible Savings Box keeps the emergency fund apart from daily spending while staying reachable. Naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. You can open an account from the sign-up page.

Questions people ask

How much emergency fund should I have on minimum wage?

Start with one month of essential costs. On ₦70,000 that may be around ₦60,000, built with small monthly amounts.

How can I save money on ₦70,000 salary in Nigeria?

Fix a small amount, such as ₦5,000, and move it on payday to a separate account before spending. Add part of any bonus.

Where should I keep my emergency fund in Nigeria?

In a separate, NDIC-insured account you can withdraw from the same day, not in a locked product and not in cash at home.

Can my employer give me a salary advance?

The Labour Act limits a wage advance to one month's wages, repaid over at least three months, without interest, for workers covered by the Act.
