Ten years, one trunk

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to check units left on an EEDC prepaid meter

How to see the credit left on an EEDC prepaid meter or CIU, why key presses vary by maker, and how to estimate how long your units will last.

The short answer

On most EEDC prepaid meters the remaining credit in kWh is the default reading on the meter display or the customer interface unit (CIU), and other readings are reached by keying a short code shown in the maker's user booklet. EEDC does not publish one key sequence for all meters, because it buys from several vendors (six on its September 2026 MAP list), so match the brand on your meter to its manual.

Running out of units at 10pm is avoidable if you can read the meter. The challenge on EEDC's network is that there is no single set of key presses that works on every meter. This guide explains where the balance is shown, how to find the right keys for your model, and how to turn the balance into days of supply.

Why the keys differ

EEDC's September 2026 MAP price list names six vendors of smart cellular meters: AEMS, Mojec, G-Unit, Kenpetrus, Holley Metering and MBH Power. Older meters from earlier schemes may be from other makers. Each maker programmes its own display and short codes. EEDC's website, when we checked in October 2026, did not publish a key guide, so the reliable source is the user booklet or card that came with the meter or CIU.

Where to look first

  • Meter on the wall inside: the display usually shows the remaining credit when idle, often scrolling between credit and other readings. Watch it for a full cycle.
  • Meter outside with a CIU indoors: press any key to wake the CIU. The first screen is usually the credit. If the CIU shows no link, change its batteries and stand closer to the meter.
  • Smart cellular meters: these communicate over a mobile network. Some vendors offer an app or portal for balance; ask your vendor or district office whether yours does.

Finding the right key code

  1. Read the brand and model on the meter face or CIU.
  2. Find the user booklet or card. Look for a section called display codes, short codes or information codes.
  3. Enter the code for remaining credit (and, while you are there, the codes for last token and current load), then press Enter.
  4. If you have no booklet, ask EEDC through its customer care page or complaint portal for the user guide for that model, or ask the vendor.

Turn the balance into days

Example only. Your CIU shows 42.5 kWh left. Last week, with no token loaded, the balance fell from 60 kWh to 25 kWh over seven days, so you used 35 kWh, or 5 kWh a day. At that rate 42.5 kWh lasts 42.5 ÷ 5 = 8.5 days. Check the balance at the same time each day for a week to find your own daily use; it changes with the season and with how many hours of supply your feeder gets.

What your units cost

To know what a top-up buys, you need your band's rate. EEDC's published table (July 2024) gives Band A non-MD at ₦209.50 per kWh, subject to 7.5% VAT; in Enugu State, EERC set Band A at ₦160 per kWh from 1 August 2025. See how many units ₦5,000 buys on EEDC for the arithmetic.

When the balance looks wrong

  • Credit falling with everything switched off: switch off the main breaker; if the meter still counts down, report a possible fault or a neighbour's connection to your meter.
  • Balance did not rise after a token: check that the meter accepted the token; see EEDC token rejected.
  • Display blank or error shown: see EEDC meter error codes.

Sharing a meter in a compound

Where two or three households share one prepaid meter, disputes start when nobody can see who used what. Agree a routine: one person reads the balance at the same time each evening and posts it in a group chat, and each token purchase is posted with its receipt. Over a month this shows how fast units go and makes it easier to split the cost fairly. If the compound is large, ask EEDC about separate meters for each unit under the MAP scheme; see EEDC prepaid meter: how to apply.

Habits that prevent a dark evening

  • Top up when the balance falls below about three days of your normal use, not when it hits zero.
  • Buy during the day, so that if a token fails to arrive you have time to query it.
  • Keep the meter number saved in your phone and banking app, typed once and checked.

Keep a simple log of balance, date and token units. It is the best evidence if you later dispute a reading or band. For how tokens work generally, read how prepaid tokens work.

Where Pryme fits

When the balance runs low, you can buy a token in the electricity menu of the Pryme app if your distributor is listed. A Personal Assistant can prepare a regular top-up for you to approve.

Questions people ask

How do I check my EEDC meter balance?

Wake the meter or CIU; the default screen on most meters shows the credit left in kWh. For other readings, use the short codes in your meter maker's booklet, as EEDC does not publish one key sequence for all models.

What is the code to check units on a Mojec meter in Enugu?

Mojec is one of EEDC's MAP vendors, but codes vary by model. Use the booklet that came with your meter or ask the vendor or EEDC for that model's guide.

Why is my CIU not showing my balance?

Usually weak CIU batteries or a lost link with the outdoor meter. Replace the batteries, move closer, and re-pair using the manual; report it if it persists.

How many days will 50 units last?

Divide by your daily use. At 5 kWh a day (an example), 50 kWh lasts 10 days. Track your balance for a week to find your own rate.
