Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

EEDC token rejected: causes and fixes

Why an EEDC prepaid meter rejects a token, from mistyped digits to the STS key change, and the order in which to fix it before you complain.

The short answer

An EEDC token is usually rejected because of a typing error, a token generated for a different meter number, or a meter that has not received its key change tokens after EEDC's STS upgrade. Retype once, check the meter number on the receipt, and if the meter still refuses, ask EEDC (or MainPower in Enugu State) to confirm the key change status and reissue the token, quoting your transaction reference.

You have paid, the SMS has arrived, and the meter says no. Most rejected tokens on EEDC's network have one of a few causes, and you can rule out most of them yourself in a few minutes. Work through them in order before you spend a day at the district office.

Cause 1: a typing or reading error

Tokens are 20 digits long, as EEDC's key change notices describe. One wrong digit makes the meter reject the whole token. Read the token in groups of four, type slowly, and press Enter only once you have checked the screen. If the SMS was forwarded, compare it with the receipt in the app you paid from, as copied messages sometimes lose a digit.

Cause 2: the wrong meter number

A token is generated for one meter number and will not work on any other. Compare the meter number on the receipt with the number on the meter face or CIU. Landlords with several flats, and anyone buying for a relative, are most at risk. If the token went to the wrong meter, it cannot simply be moved; ask the vending channel and EEDC to reverse or reissue it, with the receipt.

Cause 3: the meter missed its key change

EEDC moved its prepaid meters to a new STS token identifier in 2024. A NAN report published by Peoples Gazette on 21 January 2024 said the first purchase after the rollover would come with three 20-digit tokens, KCT1, KCT2 and the energy token, to be entered in that order, each followed by Enter, and that the upgrade was free. ThisDay reported on 27 February 2024 that EEDC had moved to a new vending system, SuperEdge, that the upgrade was compulsory for STS-compliant prepaid meters with a deadline of 24 November 2024, and that tokens bought before the upgrade but not loaded would no longer be accepted afterwards.

If your meter was missed, every new token can be rejected. Ask EEDC to confirm your meter's key change status and to issue the key change tokens. See EEDC key change tokens.

Cause 4: token already used

If someone else in the house loaded the token, the meter will refuse it a second time. Check the meter's credit history if your model shows it, and ask around before complaining.

Cause 5: a meter or CIU fault

If the CIU has lost its link to the outdoor meter, the token may not reach the meter at all. Replace the CIU batteries, stand closer and re-pair as your manual describes. A meter showing a tamper or fault message needs a technician; see EEDC meter error codes.

Prevent the next rejection

  • Save the meter number once as a named beneficiary in your banking or bill app, check it against the meter, and reuse it rather than typing it each time.
  • Before paying, check that the app shows the customer name and address linked to the meter; stop if it does not match.
  • Load each token as soon as it arrives rather than storing tokens for later.
  • Keep receipts for at least a few months; screenshots are fine if they show the reference.
  • If you buy for a relative, send the token straight from the receipt and ask them to confirm the credit rose.

What to put in a complaint

A complaint that includes everything EEDC needs is resolved faster. Give your name and phone number; the meter number; the token number and transaction reference; the date, time and amount paid; the channel used; the exact message the meter showed; and what you have already tried. Ask for a complaint reference and note it. If the token was vended to a wrong meter number that you typed, say so; it is still worth asking for a reversal, but the channel and EEDC will need both meter numbers.

Steps, in order

  1. Retype the token once, slowly.
  2. Check the meter number on the receipt against the meter.
  3. Ask the household whether the token was already loaded.
  4. Check the CIU batteries and link.
  5. Contact the channel you paid through with the transaction reference to confirm the token.
  6. Lodge a complaint with EEDC on complaint.myeedc.com or the complaint form on enugudisco.com, attaching the receipt, and ask about key change status. In Enugu State, go to MainPower first; see EEDC and MainPower complaints.

For general causes on any network, read electricity token not loading.

Where Pryme fits

A token bought in the Pryme app's electricity menu stays in your history with its meter number and reference, which is the evidence EEDC asks for when a token is disputed.

Questions people ask

Why is my EEDC meter rejecting tokens?

Usually a typing error, a token for a different meter number, or a meter that did not receive its STS key change tokens. Retype once and check the meter number, then ask EEDC about key change status.

How do I load KCT on an EEDC meter?

Reports of EEDC's 2024 upgrade describe three 20-digit tokens with the first purchase after the rollover: KCT1, KCT2 and the energy token, entered in that order, each followed by Enter.

Can EEDC refund a rejected token?

A token issued to the wrong meter or rejected because of a vending error can be queried with the receipt. Reports from January 2024 said tokens bought before the STS upgrade and not loaded would not be refunded.

Who do I contact in Enugu if my token is rejected?

MainPower, EEDC's Enugu State subsidiary. Keep the receipt and escalate to EERC if it is not resolved.
