Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

How to use the Ecobank app in Ghana to pay a Nigerian bank

How Ecobank's Rapidtransfer works from Ghana to Nigeria: Ecobank and other bank accounts, delivery options, limits, reversals and gaps in Ecobank's page.

The short answer

Ecobank's cross-border service is Rapidtransfer, which Ecobank says reaches 33 African countries and pays out in the local currency, so a transfer from Ghana arrives in Nigeria in naira. The sender bears the cost, the receiver pays nothing, and Ecobank states a maximum of US$10,000 that varies by country. Once you authorise a transfer in the app you cannot cancel it, so check the Nigerian account details before you press send.

Ecobank operates in both Ghana and Nigeria, which makes its app an obvious first try for a Nigerian in Accra paying family, a landlord or a school back home. The service behind it is called Rapidtransfer. This guide sets out what Ecobank's own Rapidtransfer page says, how the steps usually run, and where the page is silent. Ecobank Ghana's own Rapidtransfer page would not load when we checked in October 2026, so the details below come from Ecobank's group Rapidtransfer page published on its Nigerian site. Confirm anything Ghana-specific in the app or with your branch.

What Rapidtransfer is

Coverage
33 African countries, according to Ecobank's Rapidtransfer page
Payout currency
Local currency of the receiving country: naira in Nigeria
Who pays
The sender; Ecobank says there is no fee for the receiver
Maximum
US$10,000, varying by country
Delivery choices in the app
Instant, or 1, 2 or 3 days, as listed by Ecobank
Cancellation
Not possible once authorised

The page also covers cash collection: the receiver shows ID (passport, driver's licence, national ID, voter's card or corporate ID), and Ecobank says the money cannot be collected by a relative on the receiver's behalf.

Paying an Ecobank account versus another Nigerian bank

Sending from Ecobank Ghana to an Ecobank Nigeria account keeps the payment inside one group, which is where Rapidtransfer is built to work. Ecobank's page is not consistent on whether the receiver needs an Ecobank account, and it does not set out a separate process for paying a non-Ecobank bank in Nigeria. In practice, open the Rapidtransfer menu in the Ecobank Ghana app, choose Nigeria and look at the beneficiary options it offers you. If a non-Ecobank bank is not offered, you have three alternatives:

  • PAPSS through a connected bank. PAPSS lists Ecobank among the 17 Ghanaian banks connected to it, but its list of 11 Nigerian banks does not include Ecobank Nigeria. A PAPSS payment would go to a Nigerian bank on that list. See using PAPSS to pay a Nigerian bank from Ghana.
  • A SWIFT transfer from your Ghana account, which takes longer and involves correspondent charges. See whether a SWIFT transfer from Ghana arrives in naira.
  • A money transfer operator paying into the Nigerian account.

How the steps usually run

  1. Make sure your Ecobank Ghana account and app are active and your mobile number is verified.
  2. Collect the receiver's full name as held by their bank, the bank name and the 10-digit account number. A guide to which bank details your family should give a sender in Ghana sets these out.
  3. In the app, choose Rapidtransfer, then Nigeria, then the beneficiary type and delivery speed.
  4. Enter the amount. Read the cedi amount debited, the fee and the naira amount the receiver will get. Those three numbers tell you the real cost.
  5. Authorise. From this point Ecobank says the transfer cannot be cancelled.
  6. Save the reference and send it to the receiver.

Costs, limits and reversals

Ecobank's page does not publish a Ghana-to-Nigeria fee or exchange rate. Two costs matter: the transfer fee shown in the app, and the gap between Ecobank's cedi-naira rate and the mid-market rate. Compare the naira amount received, not the fee alone. Our explainer on the cedi-to-naira exchange margin shows how to work that out.

If a transfer has to be reversed, Ecobank's page says this happens at the sending branch, that only the principal is refunded, and that you may lose on the exchange rate. So an error costs you the fee and possibly a currency loss. Limits can vary by country and by account type, so check the limit shown in the Ghana app before planning a large payment such as school fees.

Common mistakes

  • Using a nickname. Nigerian banks check the beneficiary name against their records; a short form can lead to a hold or return.
  • Choosing Instant for a large sum without checking the limit. If the amount exceeds your limit, the app may refuse it or split options; check first.
  • Not saving the reference. Without it, neither bank can trace the payment quickly.
  • Assuming the receiver can send someone to collect cash. Ecobank says Rapidtransfer cash cannot be collected by a relative on the receiver's behalf.

Where Pryme fits

If you regularly pay naira bills from Ghana, it can help to hold naira ready in Nigeria. Pryme accounts can be opened from any country and hold NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, each with local account details; Pryme does not hold cedis. You can send to any Nigerian bank from the naira balance, and the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve any conversion.

What to check first

  • Beneficiary options for Nigeria in your Ecobank Ghana app.
  • The receiver's name exactly as their bank holds it.
  • The naira amount shown before you authorise.
  • Your app limit for cross-border transfers.

Questions people ask

Can I send money from Ecobank Ghana to Ecobank Nigeria?

Yes, Rapidtransfer covers 33 African countries, Nigeria included, and pays in local currency, so the receiver gets naira.

Does Ecobank Rapidtransfer pay into other Nigerian banks?

Ecobank's page does not set this out clearly. Check the beneficiary options in your Ghana app; if another bank is not offered, consider PAPSS, SWIFT or a money transfer operator.

How much does Ecobank Rapidtransfer cost from Ghana?

Ecobank's page does not publish a figure; the sender pays and the app shows the fee and naira amount before you authorise.

Can I cancel an Ecobank Rapidtransfer?

No. Ecobank says a transfer cannot be cancelled once authorised; a reversal at the sending branch returns only the principal, possibly with an exchange loss.
