Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

Can I send money from Ecobank Ghana to Ecobank Nigeria?

Ecobank's Rapidtransfer moves money between its banks in 33 African countries. What it needs, what Ecobank says on charges and limits, and what to check.

The short answer

Yes. Ecobank's Rapidtransfer service sends money between Ecobank banks in 33 African countries, including Ghana and Nigeria, with the money paid out in local currency. Ecobank's Rapidtransfer page says the sender bears the cost and the receiver pays no fee, the maximum is up to US$10,000 depending on the country, and app transfers are delivered instantly or within one to three days and cannot be cancelled once authorised.

How Rapidtransfer works

Ecobank operates banks in many African countries under one group. Rapidtransfer is its service for moving money between them. The details below come from Ecobank's Rapidtransfer page on its Nigeria site, read in October 2026; Ecobank Ghana's own page may word things differently, so confirm with your branch or in the Ecobank app before you send.

PointWhat Ecobank's page says
Coverage33 African countries
Payout currencyLocal currency in the receiving country (naira in Nigeria)
Receiver's feeNone; the sender bears the cost
MaximumUp to US$10,000, varying by country
App delivery optionsInstant, 1, 2 or 3 days
CancellationNot possible once authorised
ReversalAt the sending branch, principal only; an exchange loss is possible

What you need to send from Ghana

  • Your Ecobank Ghana account and app or online banking access, or a visit to a branch.
  • The receiver's full name as on their ID.
  • The receiver's Ecobank Nigeria account details, if paying into an account.
  • Your own ID if sending at a branch.

Ecobank's page is not consistent on whether the receiver must have an Ecobank account, so ask the branch which payout options apply from Ghana to Nigeria. Where the receiver collects at a branch, the page lists accepted ID as passport, driver's licence, national ID, voter's card or corporate ID, and says the money cannot be collected by a relative on the receiver's behalf.

What it costs

Ecobank's page says the receiver pays no fee and the sender bears the cost, but it does not give a fee for Ghana to Nigeria. The cost has two parts: the fee your Ecobank Ghana account is charged, and the exchange rate Ecobank applies to turn cedis into naira. The app or branch shows both before you authorise. Compare the naira that will arrive with the mid-market value of your cedis that day; cedi-naira FX margins explained shows how.

Worked example

Illustrative figures only, not Ecobank's prices. You send GH₵3,000 at an example rate of GH₵1 = ₦119. The receiver gets 3,000 x 119 = ₦357,000. If the mid-market rate is GH₵1 = ₦122, the cedis were worth ₦366,000, so the margin cost ₦9,000 (366,000 minus 357,000), about 2.5%, before any sending fee.

Steps in the app

Menu names vary between app versions, so treat this as an outline and follow the screens your app shows.

  1. Log into the Ecobank app with your Ecobank Ghana profile.
  2. Open the transfers menu and choose Rapidtransfer or the cross-border option.
  3. Select Nigeria as the destination country.
  4. Enter the receiver's name and Ecobank Nigeria details as the screen asks.
  5. Choose the delivery option offered: instant, or one to three days.
  6. Review the fee, the exchange rate and the naira amount to be paid out.
  7. Authorise, then save the confirmation and reference.

Before choosing a slower delivery option, check whether it is priced differently; the page lists the options but not their prices. If the app does not show Nigeria or a Rapidtransfer option, ask your Ecobank Ghana branch whether the service is enabled on your account type.

If something goes wrong

Because a Rapidtransfer cannot be cancelled once authorised, check the receiver's name and account number before you confirm. If the transfer has to be reversed, Ecobank's page says reversal is handled at the sending branch and only the principal is returned, so you may lose the fee and suffer an exchange loss if the rate has moved. Keep your transaction reference.

Other bank routes

PAPSS, the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System, lists Ecobank among its connected banks in Ghana, though not among the 11 connected banks it lists in Nigeria, so a PAPSS payment from Ecobank Ghana would go to a different Nigerian bank. See PAPSS from Ghana to Nigeria and the bank details a Nigerian receiver needs.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not hold cedis. A receiver in Nigeria who banks elsewhere can give a Pryme account's local naira details for routes that pay any Nigerian bank, and Pryme customers abroad can send from NGN, USD, GBP or EUR balances; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Can I transfer from Ecobank Ghana to Ecobank Nigeria?

Yes, through Ecobank Rapidtransfer, which covers 33 African countries and pays out in local currency.

How much does Ecobank Rapidtransfer cost from Ghana?

Ecobank's page says the sender bears the cost but gives no Ghana-to-Nigeria fee. The app or branch shows the fee and rate before you authorise.

Can I cancel an Ecobank Rapidtransfer?

No, not once authorised. A reversal at the sending branch returns the principal only.

What is the Rapidtransfer limit?

Ecobank's page says up to US$10,000, varying by country.
