Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to upgrade DStv mid-month: what you pay

What a mid-month DStv upgrade costs, where to make the change, a worked pro-rata example and why new channels can show E16.

The short answer

Change the package in the MyDStv app, on WhatsApp (+234 908 236 8533) or by live chat, and pay the amount the system shows for the change; MultiChoice does not publish a pro-rata formula on the pages we opened. A useful check: the price difference times the share of the month left, for example ₦5,500 to move from Compact to Compact Plus with half a month to go at March 2025 prices.

Moving to a bigger DStv package halfway through your billing month is common before a big match or a holiday. The question is what you pay on the day. The honest answer is that the exact amount is calculated by MultiChoice's system and shown to you before you confirm; MultiChoice does not publish a formula on the pages we could open. What follows explains how mid-month upgrades generally work, how to see the real figure, and how to check it.

Where to upgrade

  • MyDStv app or self-service website: sign in, open your account and choose to change package. The app shows the amount due for the change before you pay.
  • WhatsApp: +234 908 236 8533, listed on DStv's Nigeria contact page; have your smartcard number and surname ready.
  • Live chat on the DStv website after you sign in.
  • USSD *288# from the phone number registered with DStv, for checking what you owe and your transactions.

How a mid-month upgrade is usually charged

Pay-TV operators that allow mid-cycle upgrades normally charge the difference between the two packages for the days left in the cycle, rather than a full month of the new package. Whether MultiChoice rounds, charges a minimum, or resets your due date is something its system decides; the amount shown in the app is the one that counts. Treat the example below as a way to sanity-check that figure, not as MultiChoice's rule.

Worked example: Compact to Compact Plus with half a month left

Example only, using the prices MultiChoice announced for 1 March 2025: Compact ₦19,000 and Compact Plus ₦30,000.

StepFigure
Monthly difference (₦30,000 − ₦19,000)₦11,000
Days left in a 30-day cycle15
Share of the cycle left (15 ÷ 30)0.5
Pro-rata top-up (₦11,000 × 0.5)₦5,500
Next full month on Compact Plus₦30,000

If the app asked for close to ₦5,500 in this situation, the system is working as a pro-rata upgrade. If it asked for the full ₦30,000, it may be starting a new month on the new package; ask through chat or WhatsApp before paying. Prices may have changed since March 2025; see the price history.

Steps

  1. Switch the decoder on and leave it on a DStv channel.
  2. Open the MyDStv app and check your current package, balance and due date.
  3. Choose the new package and read the amount due for the change.
  4. Pay exactly that amount, through the app or your usual channel.
  5. Wait about 15 minutes. MultiChoice's E16 guidance says cleared errors take around that long on most platforms.
  6. If channels in the new package show E16, clear the error from the app (Manage account > Clear error codes) or *288#.

Why upgraded channels show E16

MultiChoice lists 'trying to watch a channel not in your subscription' and 'paid less than the subscription cost' as two causes of E16. After an upgrade, both point to the same thing: the account has not yet been moved to the new package, or the amount paid did not cover it. Check the package shown in the app before anything else. If the app shows the new package and the balance is clear, the decoder probably missed the signal; see how to force reconnection.

Upgrading for one event

Many subscribers upgrade for a single match, a final or a series and want to drop back afterwards. Before doing that, compare three figures: the top-up for the remaining days, the full price of the bigger package at your next renewal, and the cost of going back down. If your renewal is close, it is often simpler to renew directly on the bigger package for one month and return to your usual package the month after. Write down the date you plan to switch back, because the bigger package will otherwise keep renewing at its higher price.

Paying through a bank or payment app

Some bank and app bill menus only offer a full month of a named package, not a top-up amount. If yours does, make the package change in the MyDStv app first and check whether the channel lets you enter a custom amount. If it does not, pay the top-up in the MyDStv app instead, so the amount matches what the system expects.

Downgrading is different

Moving to a cheaper package mid-month does not usually return money for the rest of the month; the cheaper package normally applies from your next renewal. Check the app's wording when you make the change. The details are in how to downgrade DStv.

What to check first

  • Your due date, because an upgrade a day or two before renewal costs almost nothing extra and may not be worth doing separately.
  • The amount the app shows for the change, compared with the worked example method.
  • That the smartcard number in the app is the one on the decoder you want upgraded.

Where Pryme fits

Once you know the top-up the app is asking for, you can pay it as a cable TV bill from your Pryme account (pay TV) and keep the dated receipt in case the upgrade does not show.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost to upgrade DStv mid-month?

The MyDStv app shows the amount before you pay. As a check, a pro-rata top-up is the price difference multiplied by the share of the month left; see the worked example.

Can I upgrade DStv for just one week?

You can change package at any time through the app or WhatsApp. Whether you can return to the cheaper package before your renewal date, and at what cost, is shown when you make the change.

Why is my DStv still showing E16 after upgrading?

Usually the account was not moved to the new package or the amount paid did not cover it. Check the package in the app, then clear the error and wait about 15 minutes.

How do I upgrade DStv on WhatsApp?

Message +234 908 236 8533 with your smartcard number and surname ready and follow the prompts.
