Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

DMCC company for Nigerian commodity traders

DMCC is Dubai's commodities free zone. What Nigerian traders should check on activities, qualifying commodities, tax status and the Nigerian export side.

The short answer

DMCC is a Dubai free zone focused on commodities trade, and a Nigerian trader can set up a DMCC company subject to its own approvals and checks; licence costs and activity rules come from DMCC's current quote. For tax, 'trading of qualifying commodities' is a qualifying activity, so a DMCC company that meets the Qualifying Free Zone Person conditions can pay 0% on that income, but only if the goods meet the legal definition and the company keeps substance and audited accounts.

Nigerian traders in cocoa, cashew, sesame, shea, ginger, metals and oil products often look at Dubai as a trading hub, and DMCC is the zone most associated with commodities. This guide covers what to check before you apply, how UAE corporate tax treats commodity trading, and what happens on the Nigerian side. We could not open DMCC's cost or activity pages for this article, so no DMCC fee or package is stated.

Questions to ask DMCC

  1. Which licence activities match my commodities exactly, and do any require extra approval or membership?
  2. What is the first-year and renewal cost, including registration, licence, office or desk, establishment card and visas?
  3. What due diligence do you run on a Nigerian shareholder, and which documents must be attested?
  4. Do you require audited accounts at renewal?
  5. Is any part of the zone a Designated Zone for goods, and does that matter for how my goods move?

Foreign documents used in the UAE are attested by UAE MOFA after the issuing country's foreign ministry and the UAE embassy there have attested them. MOFA's FAQ lists commercial document attestation at AED 2,000 and individual documents at AED 150.

Documents to have ready

  • Passports and, if held, UAE visas and Emirates IDs for every shareholder and manager.
  • A business plan naming the commodities, origin countries, buyers and expected volumes.
  • Bank references and source-of-funds evidence for the opening capital.
  • For a Nigerian corporate shareholder: CAC certificate, status report and attested board resolution.

Tax: when commodity income can be 0%

PwC's UAE incentives summary (reviewed 9 September 2026) lists trading of qualifying commodities among the qualifying activities of a Qualifying Free Zone Person (QFZP). Income from that activity can be qualifying income even when the counterparty is outside the free zone, which matters for traders whose buyers sit in Europe or Asia and whose suppliers are in Nigeria.

Conditions
Adequate substance in the free zone, qualifying income, no election for the standard regime, transfer pricing compliance, de minimis limit, audited IFRS financial statements.
De minimis
Non-qualifying revenue no more than the lower of 5% of total revenue or AED 5 million.
Excluded
Transactions with natural persons generally; regulated banking, insurance and finance.
If conditions fail
9% on all income for that year and the next four years.
Otherwise
Standard regime: 0% up to AED 375,000 of taxable income, 9% above.

The term 'qualifying commodities' has a legal definition in UAE rules; not every product a trader calls a commodity will meet it, and processed goods may not. Check your specific goods with a UAE tax adviser before you rely on 0%. Physical distribution of goods is a different qualifying activity, and it must be carried out in or from a Designated Zone.

Substance for a trading company

Core income-generating activities must happen in the free zone, with adequate assets, qualified staff and spending, according to PwC. For a trader that means the people who negotiate, price, hedge and manage risk should work from the UAE, not from Lagos. A DMCC company whose decisions are all made in Nigeria risks failing substance.

The Nigerian export side

If you export from Nigeria to your DMCC company, the Nigerian exporter's obligations still apply. The CBN's 2026 FX Manual, as reported by TheCable on 3 June 2026, prohibits cash withdrawals from export proceeds accounts and sets how foreign currency flows through domiciliary accounts. Pricing between your Nigerian company and your DMCC company should be at arm's length, since both tax authorities can look at it. See our guide to mainland or free zone for Nigeria trade.

Where Pryme fits

Commodity trades often involve paying many Nigerian suppliers and aggregators in naira. A Pryme Business Account, opened from the UAE, holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, and bulk payouts pay many suppliers in one approved batch. The Finance agent prepares the files and a person approves above the ceiling you set.

Questions people ask

Can a Nigerian open a DMCC company?

Yes, foreign nationals can apply. DMCC runs its own due diligence; ask which Nigerian documents it needs and whether they must be attested.

Is a DMCC trading company tax-free?

Only qualifying income of a Qualifying Free Zone Person is taxed at 0%. Trading of qualifying commodities is a qualifying activity, subject to substance, audited accounts and the de minimis test.

What are qualifying commodities?

A defined term in UAE corporate tax rules. Check whether your specific goods meet it with a UAE tax adviser.

How much does a DMCC licence cost?

We could not verify DMCC's current costs for this article. Ask DMCC for a written first-year and renewal quote including visas.
