Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to dispute an error on my South African credit report

Disputes are free and lodged with the bureau. Under the NCR guideline, unproven items must be removed within 20 business days. Here is how to win one.

The short answer

Lodge a free dispute with the credit bureau that shows the error, attach proof, and tell the lender in writing. Under NCR Guideline 005/2025, reported in March 2026, the bureau must suppress the item while it investigates, share the evidence it used, and delete information that cannot be backed by credible proof within 20 business days.

The short version

A wrong entry on a South African credit report is challenged with the credit bureau that holds it, not with the lender first, although you will usually end up dealing with both. The challenge is free. Under a guideline the National Credit Regulator (NCR) issued to its registrants and reported on 24 March 2026, Guideline 005/2025, Credible Evidence for Disputed Credit Bureau Information, the bureau must temporarily take the disputed item off your profile while it investigates, show you copies of the evidence it relied on, and delete any information the data provider cannot support with credible proof within 20 business days.

For Nigerians in South Africa the problem is often not a bad account but a broken identity link: a passport number keyed in wrongly, a surname spelt two ways, or a profile that belongs to somebody else. Those are disputes too, and they are worth fixing before you apply for a lease, a phone contract or car finance.

Step 1: get every report, not just one

Each person is entitled to one free credit report a year from each registered credit bureau, according to the NCR announcement. Lenders and landlords do not all use the same bureau, so an error can sit on one report and not on another. Request your report from each bureau you know a lender or landlord uses, using the same passport number, date of birth and spelling of your name every time. Our guide to checking your credit report free on a passport covers how to request one without a South African ID number.

When the reports arrive, go through them line by line:

  • Personal details: passport number, date of birth, surname and first names, addresses, employer.
  • Accounts: is every account yours? Look for phone contracts, store cards and loans you never opened.
  • Payment history: are any months marked late that you paid on time?
  • Adverse listings and judgments: is anything listed that was settled, disputed or never yours?
  • Enquiries: are there credit checks you did not authorise?

Step 2: gather the proof before you lodge

The 2026 guideline is about evidence on both sides. Unsupported claims from a data provider are not enough to keep an item on your profile, and a dispute backed by your own documents moves faster. Useful proof includes:

  • A settlement letter or paid-up letter from the creditor.
  • Bank statements showing the payments that the report says were missed.
  • Your passport data page and permit, where the issue is identity or a mixed-up profile.
  • A police case number or affidavit, where an account was opened fraudulently in your name.
  • Correspondence with the lender, including dates and reference numbers.

If the payments went from a Nigerian account or another foreign account, a statement in English that clearly shows the date, amount and payee is better than a screenshot.

Step 3: lodge the dispute with the bureau

Use the bureau's own dispute channel and keep the reference number. Say exactly which item is wrong, why it is wrong, and what the correct position is. Attach the evidence. Ask the bureau to confirm in writing that the item has been suppressed while the investigation runs, as the NCR guideline requires.

What happensWhat the NCR guideline expects
You lodge a disputeNo charge to you
Investigation startsDisputed item temporarily removed from your profile
Bureau decidesCopies of the evidence used in its findings given to you
Data provider cannot prove the itemItem deleted if not supported by credible proof within 20 business days

The press report does not say whether 20 business days is the whole investigation or only the deadline for deleting unsupported information. Count business days from the date the bureau acknowledged your dispute, and follow up in writing if you hear nothing.

Step 4: go to the lender at the same time

Section 72(1)(a) of the National Credit Act gives you the right to be told by a credit provider, within the prescribed time, before it reports adverse information about you. If a listing appeared with no warning, say so in your dispute and in a written complaint to the lender. The lender is the data provider; if it corrects its own records and notifies the bureaus, the fix reaches every report that carries the account.

If you are still not satisfied

The NCR publishes a Consumer Guide alongside Guideline 005/2025 that explains what to do if you disagree with the outcome. Read it before escalating, so you use the right body for your type of complaint, and keep your bureau and lender reference numbers together.

Mistakes that make disputes fail

  • Using a different passport number or name spelling from the one on the report. If you renewed your Nigerian passport, give both old and new numbers.
  • Disputing a debt you owe because you disagree with the amount, without proof of what was paid.
  • Sending documents by WhatsApp or unrecorded channels.
  • Paying a company that promises to "clean" your record. Disputes are free, and nobody can lawfully remove accurate information early.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not report to South African credit bureaus and cannot change a bureau record. Where your evidence is a payment made from Nigeria, any Pryme customer can generate a verifiable statement or receipt with VerifyDoc.ai, which anyone can check is genuine and unaltered (receipts and statements). A Pryme account keeps naira, dollars, pounds and euros apart, so the payment trail is easy to show. Building a South African record afresh is covered in building a credit score as a foreign national, and Nigeria's own bureaus are explained in how Nigeria's credit bureaus work.

Questions people ask

Does it cost anything to dispute my credit report in South Africa?

No. The NCR's March 2026 guideline reinforces the consumer's right to challenge incorrect information at no cost, and you are entitled to one free report a year from each registered bureau.

How long does a credit bureau have to fix a wrong listing?

Under NCR Guideline 005/2025, information the data provider cannot support with credible proof must be deleted within 20 business days, and the item is suppressed while the investigation runs.

My credit report shows someone else's accounts on my passport number. What do I do?

Dispute every account that is not yours with each bureau that shows it, attach your passport data page and permit, and open a police case if you suspect fraud. Check whether your old passport number is also on file.

Can I dispute a debt I owe but already settled?

Yes. Send the settlement or paid-up letter and bank statements. Accurate history of the debt may remain, but its status should show as settled.
