Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Buying land in Warri from abroad: verification at Delta lands

How Nigerians abroad can verify a Warri plot before paying: title search, surveyor charting, family or community consent, Governor's consent and red flags.

The short answer

Before paying for a plot in Warri from abroad, have your own lawyer search the title at the Delta State lands registry, have your own surveyor chart the survey plan to confirm the land is not under government acquisition, and confirm the sellers are the family or community with the right to sell. Under the Land Use Act, a transfer of a statutory right of occupancy needs the Governor's consent, and transactions contrary to the Act are void.

Why verification matters more from abroad

Buying land in Warri while living in London, Houston or Toronto means relying on people on the ground. Most land disputes that reach Nigerian courts come down to the same few problems: the seller did not have the right to sell, the plot was sold twice, the land sits on government-acquired or disputed ground, or the boundaries on paper do not match the land. Each of these can be checked before money moves, and none can be fixed cheaply afterwards.

Hire your own lawyer and surveyor in Warri or Asaba, separate from anyone the seller or agent recommends. Ask for their professional registration details and check them with their professional bodies.

Step 1: collect the seller's documents

  • The title document: a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), a registered Deed of Assignment, or, for family or community land, the family's root of title and any court judgments.
  • The survey plan, with the surveyor's name, plan number and coordinates.
  • Receipts and agreements for every earlier sale of the same land.
  • Valid ID of every seller and, for family land, the names of the family head and principal members who must sign.
  • A current photograph and video of the plot, with a newspaper or a phone screen showing the date.

Step 2: title search at the Delta lands registry

Your lawyer applies for a search at the Delta State Ministry of Lands registry in Asaba, using the title's registration particulars. The search should show who the registered holder is, whether the title is genuine, and whether there are mortgages, caveats or court orders on it. We could not find the ministry's current search fee or turnaround on a page we could open, so ask your lawyer for the official receipt and keep a copy.

If the land is still under customary ownership with no C of O, the search tells you less, and the history of the family's ownership becomes the main evidence. Your lawyer should check for existing litigation involving the family.

Step 3: chart the survey plan

Your surveyor takes the coordinates from the seller's survey plan and checks them against government records in the office of the Surveyor-General. This charting shows whether the plot falls inside land acquired by the government, a road setback, a pipeline right of way or another registered parcel. In Warri, where oil and gas facilities, pipelines and creeks are common, this step is often where problems appear. The surveyor should also visit the land and confirm the beacons are where the plan says.

Step 4: confirm the right people are selling

Much land around Warri is held by families and communities, including Itsekiri, Urhobo and Ijaw families, and the right to sell may sit with a family head acting with principal members rather than with any one person. Your lawyer should confirm who has authority, that the required people sign the agreement, and that no rival branch of the family claims the same land. Meet the signatories by video call and ask the lawyer to witness the signing in person.

Some families or community groups demand extra payments when building starts. Ask, in writing, whether any further levy will be due, and write the answer into the agreement.

Section 22 of the Land Use Act says the holder of a statutory right of occupancy may not alienate it by assignment, mortgage, transfer of possession or sublease without the Governor's consent first obtained; section 21 has a similar rule for customary rights, with consent from the Governor or the local government. Section 26 says transactions contrary to the Act are void. In practice, after paying you apply for Governor's consent and then register the deed, which puts your name on the record.

You will also need a National Identification Number: the Mandatory Use of the NIN Regulations 2017 list land transactions and tenancies among the dealings that require one. Nigerians abroad can enrol through NIMC's diaspora partners.

Red flags

  • Pressure to pay a deposit today 'because another buyer is waiting'.
  • A seller who refuses a search or charting, or who supplies their own surveyor only.
  • Payment requested into an account that is not in the seller's name.
  • A price far below nearby plots without a clear reason.
  • Documents that are photocopies only, or a C of O whose details do not match the search.

Paying safely from abroad

  1. Pay nothing until the search and charting reports are in your hands.
  2. Pay into the seller's account, or through your lawyer's client account with a written undertaking.
  3. Pay against signed documents, not promises.
  4. Keep every receipt, transfer record and signed agreement in one place.

For market prices, read land prices in Warri by area, and for the scams to watch, common money scams in Warri. Our general guide to land title checks covers other cities.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account can be opened from any country and hold NGN, GBP, USD and EUR, so you can keep your savings in the currency they arrived in and use Swap to convert to naira only when a payment is due, seeing the rate first. A verifiable receipt through our partner VerifyDoc.ai gives your lawyer and the seller proof of each payment.

Questions people ask

How do I verify land in Warri before buying?

Use your own lawyer to search the title at the Delta State lands registry and your own surveyor to chart the survey plan, then confirm the sellers have authority to sell.

Is a C of O enough when buying land in Delta State?

A C of O is strong evidence of title, but you still need a search to confirm it is genuine and unencumbered, and the Governor's consent for the transfer to you.

Can I buy land in Warri without coming to Nigeria?

Yes, through a lawyer and surveyor you appoint, but verify their credentials, meet sellers by video, and pay only against signed documents.

What happens if I buy land without Governor's consent?

Section 22 of the Land Use Act requires consent for alienation, and section 26 says transactions contrary to the Act are void, so your interest is at risk until consent is obtained.
