Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Italy

Planning a December trip home from Italy: the budget

A worked budget for a December trip from Italy to Nigeria: flights, documents, gifts and naira spending, and how to time converting your euros.

The short answer

Budget the trip in two currencies: euro costs paid in Italy (flights, insurance, gifts bought there, vaccinations) and naira costs at home (transport, gifts, family support, outings, emergencies). Book flights early because December is peak season, check your Nigerian passport and yellow fever certificate months ahead, and convert euros to naira in two or three stages rather than all at the airport.

Two budgets, not one

A December trip home has costs that leave Italy in euros and costs that are spent in Nigeria in naira. Mixing them in one list hides the exchange-rate question. Split them.

Paid in euros (Italy)Paid in naira (Nigeria)
Return flights and any extra bagsAirport pickup, domestic flights or road travel to the home town
Travel insuranceFuel, driver or ride-hailing
Vaccinations and medicines for the tripGifts bought at home, cash gifts to relatives
Gifts bought in ItalyOutings, parties, church or community events
Passport renewal fee if duePhone data, small daily costs
Cover for rent and bills in Italy while awayEmergency reserve

Documents: the costs people forget

Check your passport and health paperwork three or four months before you fly, because fixing them close to Christmas costs more and may not be possible.

  • Nigerian passport. If it expires within your trip or soon after, renew first. The Nigeria Immigration Service's August 2025 notice kept diaspora passport fees at $150 for a 32-page, five-year booklet and $230 for a 64-page, ten-year booklet. See our guide to renewing a Nigerian passport in Rome.
  • Yellow fever certificate. The UK's TravelHealthPro service, updated October 2026, says Nigeria requires a yellow fever certificate from travellers entering or leaving the country, with exemptions for infants under nine months and adults over 60. Children travelling with you need their own. Book the vaccine at an authorised centre in Italy well ahead; it must be given at least ten days before travel, as BusinessDay's July 2025 guide notes.
  • Cash. If you carry more than $10,000 or its equivalent in cash or negotiable instruments into Nigeria, Nigeria Customs requires you to declare it, under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, according to the Customs spokesperson quoted by NAN in March 2025.

A worked budget (example figures only)

One adult flying from Milan for three weeks over Christmas. Replace every figure with your own quotes.

ItemExampleCurrency
Return flight booked in September€950EUR
Travel insurance€60EUR
Yellow fever vaccine and travel medicines€90EUR
Gifts bought in Italy€300EUR
Euro subtotal€1,400950 + 60 + 90 + 300
Transport in Nigeria (airport, road to home town, local trips)₦450,000NGN
Cash gifts to parents and relatives₦800,000NGN
Outings, events, eating out₦350,000NGN
Data, small daily costs₦100,000NGN
Emergency reserve₦300,000NGN
Naira subtotal₦2,000,000450 + 800 + 350 + 100 + 300 thousand

The euro you need for the naira side depends on the rate when you convert. Plan with a cautious rate and treat any improvement as extra reserve, not extra spending.

When to convert your euros

Nobody can tell you what the euro will buy in December. What you can control is how much of your budget depends on a single day's rate. Three habits help:

  1. Convert part of the naira budget once flights are booked, part a month before you fly, and the rest in the week you travel.
  2. Avoid changing large sums at an airport desk or with informal changers; you pay a wider margin and carry more cash than you need.
  3. Leave the emergency reserve in naira in an account you can reach from your phone, not as cash in a suitcase.

Each conversion route has a fee and an exchange margin against the mid-market rate; our guide to timing euro to naira conversions explains how to compare them.

December prices at home

Prices for transport, events and some foods often rise in December in cities with large homecomings. Our Nigeria library's December spending plan for Lagos has local detail. Ask family at home for current prices for the things you will actually buy, and add a margin to the transport line.

What to check first

  • Passport validity and renewal time.
  • Yellow fever certificates for every traveller who needs one.
  • Flight baggage rules if you are carrying gifts.
  • Rent and direct debits in Italy covered while you are away.
  • How you will pay for things in Nigeria without carrying large cash.

Cover your Italian bills while you are away

Three weeks away does not stop rent, utilities, phone contracts or loan instalments in Italy. Before you fly, check that your Italian account holds enough for every direct debit due while you are travelling, plus a margin. A bounced payment in Italy costs fees and can affect your credit record there, and sorting it out from a village in Nigeria with a weak connection is hard. Note your bank's helpline and card-blocking number in case a card is lost on the trip.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account opened from Italy holds euros and naira in one place. You can convert in stages with Swap, with the rate and the fee shown before you approve, keep the reserve in naira, and send to family or pay locally from your phone while you are home. Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank.

Questions people ask

How much money do I need for a December trip to Nigeria?

Build two lists: euro costs in Italy (flights, insurance, vaccines, gifts) and naira costs at home (transport, gifts, outings, reserve). The example here comes to €1,400 plus ₦2,000,000 for one adult.

Do I need a yellow fever card to travel to Nigeria from Italy?

Yes. TravelHealthPro (Oct 2026) says Nigeria requires a yellow fever certificate for travellers entering or leaving, except infants under nine months and adults over 60.

When should I change euros to naira for December?

In stages: part after booking, part a month out, the rest in the week you travel. That spreads the exchange-rate risk.

How much cash can I take into Nigeria?

Amounts over $10,000 or equivalent must be declared to Nigeria Customs, according to the Customs spokesperson quoted by NAN in March 2025.
