Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

How do I build a credit history in Ghana as a Nigerian?

Your Nigerian credit record does not follow you to Ghana. How a file starts there, why the Ghana Card is the key, and the first steps that build a record.

The short answer

You start from scratch: a Nigerian credit record does not, as far as we could find, carry over to Ghana. A Ghanaian file builds when a regulated lender reports your borrowing and repayments to the credit bureaus, and lenders identify you through the Ghana Card, so the first steps are a non-citizen Ghana Card, a bank account in your name, and a small credit line repaid on time.

Why you are starting at zero

Credit bureaus work country by country. Your repayment record with Nigerian banks and lenders sits with Nigerian bureaus, and we found no arrangement in October 2026 under which Ghanaian lenders read Nigerian files. A Ghanaian lender looking you up for the first time is likely to see no record at all. That is not a bad record; it is an empty one, and an empty file is the main reason newly arrived foreigners are offered small limits or none.

How a file gets built in Ghana

Ghana's credit reporting system is supervised by the central bank, the Bank of Ghana, which publishes the list of credit bureaus it licenses. We have not named the bureaus because we did not check that list this month. The basic mechanism is the same as in Nigeria:

  1. A regulated lender (bank, savings and loans company, microfinance institution) gives you credit.
  2. It reports the facility and your repayments to the licensed bureaus.
  3. Other lenders check the bureaus before offering you credit.
  4. Over time, on-time repayments build a record that supports larger offers.

Lenders need to be sure the person borrowing is the person in the file. The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada reported in December 2025 that the Ghana Card is required to prove identity for opening and operating a bank account in Ghana, and that 77 private institutions, including banks, financial and telecommunications companies, can verify identities against the national register. For a Nigerian, that means the non-citizen Ghana Card is the anchor: without it, there is little for a bureau record to attach to.

Non-citizens qualify for the card after 90 days' cumulative stay or on holding a residence permit (same report). From 2 February 2026 NIA charges the cedi equivalent of US$120 for a first card, as reported by GNA. See getting the non-citizen Ghana Card.

First steps, in order

StepWhat it gives you
Get your residence permit and non-citizen Ghana CardThe identity lenders and bureaus match you on
Open a current or savings account in your own nameA relationship and transaction history with a regulated lender
Have your salary paid into that accountEvidence of income the bank can see
Ask for a small facility (a credit card, overdraft or small loan) once the bank offers oneYour first reported credit line
Repay on or before every due datePositive entries in the file
After six to twelve months, request your own credit reportConfirms the record exists and is correct

Our guide to opening a bank account in Ghana as a Nigerian covers the account step.

Does mobile money count?

Mobile money payments show you transact regularly, but paying bills by MoMo is not the same as a credit record. Some lenders may offer small loans through mobile money; whether a particular product is reported to the bureaus is a question to ask the lender before you borrow.

Mistakes that set you back

  • Borrowing from unregulated lenders: they may not report good repayment, but a dispute can still follow you.
  • Applying to many lenders in a short period, which can look like distress.
  • Letting a small balance go overdue during a trip home. Set up a standing payment before you travel.
  • Having your name spelt differently on your passport, Ghana Card and bank records. Fix mismatches early.

A worked example (illustrative)

Example only: Ngozi arrives in Accra in January, gets her residence permit and Ghana Card by April, opens a salary account in May, and accepts a GH¢2,000 credit card limit offered in September. She uses about GH¢500 a month and clears it in full each month. By the following summer she has nine months of on-time repayments on file, and when she asks for a larger limit the bank has something to look at.

Where Pryme fits

Your Nigerian record still matters at home. Keeping a Pryme account active lets you run naira bills and transfers from Ghana, and the Nigeria-side steps for keeping accounts in order are in moving abroad: what to do with your Nigerian bank accounts.

Questions people ask

Does my Nigerian credit score work in Ghana?

Not as far as we could find. Ghanaian lenders check Ghanaian bureaus, so you start with an empty file.

Who regulates credit bureaus in Ghana?

The Bank of Ghana, which publishes the list of bureaus it licenses.

Can a foreigner get a loan in Ghana?

Lenders decide, but they will usually want a Ghana Card, a bank account and evidence of income. A credit record helps.

How do I check my credit report in Ghana?

Request it from a licensed bureau on the Bank of Ghana's list, with your Ghana Card.
