Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

What money do I need in my first month in Accra?

An illustrative first-month budget for a Nigerian arriving in Accra: rent advance, set-up, transport, SIM and the Ghana Card, with fixed fees sourced.

The short answer

Most of your first-month money goes on housing: the Rent Act limits advance rent to six months for a longer tenancy, so on an example rent of GH¢2,500 a month that is GH¢15,000 before you move in. Add the non-citizen Ghana Card (the cedi equivalent of US$120 from February 2026), residence permit fees, a SIM, transport and food, and in our illustrative budget a single person needs a little over GH¢21,000 in the first month.

The one cost that decides everything: rent

In Accra the advance, not the monthly rent, is what empties savings. Under section 25(5) of the Rent Act, 1963 (Act 220), as described by Modern Ghana in May 2026, a landlord may take no more than six months in advance for a tenancy longer than six months. Rent Control says it has enforced that from 1 April 2026. Landlords who ask for one or two years are still reported, so budget for six months and be ready to push back on more; see whether a landlord can demand two years.

An illustrative first-month budget

Every figure below except the Ghana Card fee is an example chosen to show the shape of the costs, not a market price. Replace each line with quotes you get on the ground.

ItemExample amountNote
Rent advance: 6 months at GH¢2,500GH¢15,000Legal maximum for a tenancy over six months
Agent fee (example: half a month's rent)GH¢1,250Agree in writing before viewing
Basic furniture, bedding, kitchen itemsGH¢2,500If the flat is unfurnished
Prepaid electricity and water top-upsGH¢600First month only
SIM, data and airtimeGH¢300Take your passport and ID to the shop
Transport (ride-hailing and trotro)GH¢900Heavier in the first weeks while you find your way
Food and household shoppingGH¢1,200One person
Total of example linesGH¢21,750

Check: 15,000 + 1,250 + 2,500 + 600 + 300 + 900 + 1,200 = 21,750. On top of this sit the official fees below, which are set in dollars.

Official fees you will meet early

Non-citizen Ghana Card

From 2 February 2026 NIA charges the cedi equivalent of US$120 for a first non-citizen card, and US$78 a year to renew, as reported by GNA. You qualify after 90 days' cumulative stay or on holding a residence permit, according to Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board. Banks rely on the card for account opening, so it shapes how quickly you can move money in. See Ghana Card fees and renewal.

Permits

ECOWAS nationals may stay up to 90 days without a permit; after that, as the Ghanaian Times reported, they are to seek a permit from the Ghana Immigration Service. The University of Ghana's international office, in an undated guide, lists a work permit at US$500 for ECOWAS nationals and a late-application penalty of GH¢60 for ECOWAS nationals. Confirm current fees with GIS; see what happens after 90 days.

Costs people forget

  • A refundable deposit or utility deposit some landlords ask for on top of the advance. Ask whether it is refundable and get it on paper.
  • A gap between arrival and first salary. If your first pay is at the end of month two, double the living lines.
  • Getting money in. Until your Ghana bank account is open, you may rely on cards from home or transfers from family, and both have FX costs.
  • Mobile money charges. The 1% E-Levy was abolished from 2 April 2025, according to the Daily Graphic, but providers' own fees still apply.

Two versions of the same move

Example only. The budget above assumes a single person taking a one-bedroom flat alone. Two other common set-ups change the picture:

Sharing a two-bedroom flat
If two colleagues split an example GH¢4,000 rent, each pays GH¢2,000 a month and GH¢12,000 as their half of a six-month advance, and set-up costs are shared. The risk is that one name usually goes on the tenancy, so agree in writing who owes what if one person leaves.
Arriving with a spouse and child
Rent rises with the extra bedroom, food and transport roughly double, and school fees and a dependant's permit come in. Budget the dependant permit separately; the University of Ghana's undated guide lists GH¢200 for an ECOWAS dependant against GH¢300 for others.

How to bring the money

Large lump sums for rent are where exchange costs bite. Each route has a transfer fee, a margin in the rate against the mid-market rate, a speed and a limit. Compare them on the day for the amount you need; our pieces on the cedi-naira FX margin and opening a Ghana account cover the detail.

What to check first

  1. Get three rent quotes in the areas you can afford and confirm each landlord's advance in writing.
  2. Book your residence permit and Ghana Card steps in your first weeks.
  3. Hold back a buffer of one month's living costs that you do not touch.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account holds naira, dollars, pounds and euros, so you can move savings across before you leave and convert only when you choose with Swap: the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. For planning the amount, see saving for relocation abroad.

Questions people ask

How much money do I need to relocate to Accra from Nigeria?

It depends mostly on rent. In our illustrative budget, six months' advance on GH¢2,500 rent plus set-up and living costs comes to GH¢21,750, before dollar-set official fees.

How many months rent advance in Accra?

The law caps it at six months for a tenancy longer than six months; some landlords still ask for more.

How much is the Ghana Card for a Nigerian?

The cedi equivalent of US$120 for a first non-citizen card from February 2026.

Do Nigerians need a visa for Ghana?

ECOWAS citizens can enter without one, but a stay beyond 90 days needs a permit from the Ghana Immigration Service.
