Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Scams in Uyo: fake land, fake alerts and job rackets

The scams Uyo residents and diaspora buyers meet most: land near the Ibom Deep Seaport, fake transfer alerts and recruitment fees, and how to avoid each.

The short answer

The three scams Uyo residents report most are land deals (often marketed on the promise of the Ibom Deep Seaport, whose land acquisition had not started as at April 2026), fake bank alerts used on traders and landlords, and job offers that ask for a recruitment or form fee. Each one can be stopped with a check: a free AkwaGIS land search, confirming credits in your own banking app, and refusing to pay anyone for a government job.

Uyo is a growing state capital with a large public payroll, money arriving from family abroad and a lot of talk about big projects. Those are exactly the conditions that fraudsters work with. This guide explains the patterns that come up most, the specific check that defeats each one, and where to report. Where we describe a project or rule, we link the source; where we describe a scam pattern, we describe how it works rather than naming people.

1. Land scams and the seaport story

The Ibom Deep Seaport has been promised for years, and land sellers use it. A common pitch is that a plot "near the seaport" or "inside the Ibom Industrial City" will multiply in value once construction starts. Check where the project really stands. In April 2026 Radio Nigeria reported that Governor Umo Eno had received the feasibility report, that preferred bidders had emerged from international bidding, and that front-end engineering design, investor roadshows and land acquisition were still next phases. No construction start or financial close had been announced.

That has two consequences. First, nobody can tell you today exactly which parcels the port and its free zone will need. Second, land inside an area the government later acquires can be taken for public use, so a buyer may end up with compensation rather than a plot. See our explainer on what the seaport means for Uyo businesses so far.

Other land tricks

  • The same plot sold to several buyers, each with a receipt.
  • Family land sold by one member without the consent of the family head and principal members.
  • A photocopied or altered C of O, or a survey plan that does not match the land on the ground.
  • Pressure to pay a deposit today because "another buyer is coming".

The check

Akwa Ibom's land agency, AkwaGIS, offers a land search that it says lets you verify any parcel for free, covering ownership, boundaries and encumbrances. Run it on the exact survey coordinates before you pay anything, use your own surveyor and lawyer, and pay only into an account in the seller's verified name. Our guide to buying land in Uyo from abroad sets out the full sequence.

2. Fake alerts and fake receipts

Traders at the markets, landlords and car sellers in Uyo meet the fake alert: a buyer shows a screenshot or forwards an SMS that looks like a credit, then leaves with the goods. Variations include a "mistaken transfer" followed by a demand to refund, or a receipt edited to show a bigger amount.

  • Confirm the credit in your own banking app or by checking your balance, not through an SMS or screenshot.
  • Do not release goods or keys until the money shows in your balance.
  • If someone says they sent money by mistake, ask them to go through their bank; do not send money back from a link or a number they give you.
  • Ask buyers for a receipt you can verify rather than a picture.

Our guide to spotting a fake credit alert covers the signs in detail.

3. Job rackets

Because civil service posts and oil-sector contractor jobs are widely sought in Uyo, offers of a "slot" in a government agency or an oil company are a common bait. The scammer asks for a form fee, a processing fee or a payment to "secure" the job. The Federal Civil Service Commission has warned that it does not recruit through private agents or middlemen and that applicants should not pay for forms, shortlisting or appointment letters; it said a message bearing its name and logo does not make the message genuine.

  • Treat any request for money to get a job as a scam, whatever the logo.
  • Apply only through links published in official announcements from the employer itself.
  • Look up the company's real address and phone number independently and call to confirm.
  • Be wary of interviews held in hotels or private homes.

4. Contribution and investment schemes

Rotating savings groups (etibe) are a long tradition in Uyo, and most run fairly. The danger is the scheme that looks like one but promises fixed high returns or pays early members with new members' money. Our guide to etibe and cooperatives in Uyo sets out the warning signs.

Where to report

  1. Your bank, immediately, if you sent money. Ask it to flag the receiving account.
  2. The nearest police division, with screenshots, account numbers and phone numbers.
  3. The EFCC, which takes fraud petitions.
  4. For land, a written complaint to AkwaGIS or the Ministry of Lands about the parcel.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme accounts use an authenticator app rather than SMS codes and need a transaction PIN, described on our security page. If you sell goods or let property, you can give or ask for a verifiable receipt made with VerifyDoc.ai, which anyone can check is genuine and unaltered.

Questions people ask

Is it safe to buy land near the Ibom Deep Seaport?

As at April 2026 land acquisition for the port was still a future phase, so no seller can tell you which parcels the project will need. Run an AkwaGIS land search and use your own lawyer before paying.

How do I know if a credit alert is fake in Uyo?

Check your balance in your own banking app. Do not rely on an SMS, a screenshot or a receipt sent by the buyer.

Do I need to pay to get a government job in Akwa Ibom?

No. Official recruiters warn against paying for forms, shortlisting or appointment letters. Treat any request for money as a scam.

Where can I report a scam in Uyo?

Report to your bank first if money left your account, then the police and the EFCC with all evidence.
