Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to check if a forex broker is regulated

Check the exact company, not the brand: how to use the SEC Nigeria, FCA, CySEC and FSCA registers, what offshore means, and red flags.

The short answer

Find the exact legal company named in your client agreement, then search that company and its licence number on the regulator's own register: SEC Nigeria for Nigerian operations, and the FCA (UK), CySEC (Cyprus) or FSCA (South Africa) for those licences. A brand can hold a strong licence in one country while signing Nigerian clients to a lightly regulated offshore entity, so the entity matters more than the logo.

Almost every forex broker says it is "regulated". The claim can be true and still tell you little, because regulation attaches to a company in a country, not to a brand on an app. Here is how to check it properly.

Step 1: find the company you actually sign with

Open the client agreement or the website footer and note three things: the full company name, the country where it is registered, and its licence or registration number. Large brokers often run several companies under one name. The one that matters is the one named on your account.

Step 2: check the right register

RegulatorCountryWhat to search
SEC NigeriaNigeriaFind a Registered Operator. Under ISA 2025, unregistered online FX platforms serving Nigerians commit an offence (SEC, Apr 2025)
FCAUnited KingdomThe Financial Services Register: firm name, reference number, permissions and status
CySECCyprus (EU)Its list of regulated investment firms
FSCASouth AfricaIts search for authorised financial services providers

Always go to the regulator's own website by typing the address yourself. Do not click a "verify our licence" link on the broker's site; clone sites copy real firms' names and numbers.

What to compare

  • The name, number and address on the register match the client agreement exactly.
  • The status is current (authorised), not cancelled, lapsed or "no longer authorised".
  • The permissions cover dealing with retail clients in the products you trade.
  • The website and contact details on the register match the site you are using. A mismatch can mean a clone.
  • The regulator has not published a warning about the name.

What "offshore" means for you

An offshore entity is a company registered in a jurisdiction with lighter rules, often used to serve clients outside the broker's main markets. It may be legal, but your protections are those of that jurisdiction, not of the UK or EU.

The difference is concrete. When ESMA restricted CFDs for EU retail clients in 2018, it capped leverage at 30:1 on major currency pairs, required positions to be closed when margin falls to 50% of the minimum required, introduced negative balance protection so a retail client cannot lose more than the account, and required a standard warning showing the share of the provider's retail accounts that lose money. An offshore entity offering 1:500 is not under those rules. Our guide to 1:500 leverage shows what that means in practice.

Red flags

  • Guaranteed or fixed monthly returns. Trading returns cannot be guaranteed.
  • An "account manager" who asks for your login or offers to trade for a share of profits.
  • Pressure to deposit more before you can withdraw, or "tax" or "clearance" fees to release profits.
  • Payment only to a personal bank account, a third party or crypto wallet in an individual's name.
  • A licence number that does not appear on the regulator's register, or appears under a different web address.
  • Bonuses that lock your deposit until you trade a large volume.

For how pooled "managed accounts" work, read account manager forex offers.

Steps: a five-minute check

  1. Copy the company name and licence number from the client agreement.
  2. Search SEC Nigeria's Find a Registered Operator page.
  3. Search the foreign regulator's register you were given, typing the address yourself.
  4. Compare name, number, web address and status.
  5. Make a small withdrawal early, before building a balance, to test that payouts work.

Worked example: one brand, two entities

Example only, with invented names. "Alpha Markets" advertises in Nigeria and its homepage says "FCA regulated". You sign up and the client agreement names "Alpha Markets Global Ltd", registered in an offshore jurisdiction.

CheckAlpha Markets UK LtdAlpha Markets Global Ltd
On FCA register?Yes, authorisedNo
Leverage offered on major pairsCapped for retail clientsUp to 1:500
Negative balance protectionYes, under retail rulesOnly if the agreement promises it
Holds your account?NoYes

The FCA logo on the homepage tells you about the UK company. Your money is with the offshore one. That is the single most common gap between what a Nigerian trader believes and what the paperwork says.

If something has already gone wrong

  • Stop depositing, including any "fee" to release withdrawals.
  • Save the client agreement, payment receipts, chat messages and account screenshots.
  • Report to the regulator named by the broker, and to SEC Nigeria if the broker targets Nigerians.
  • Tell your bank promptly if you paid by card or transfer; ask what dispute options exist.

Many fake brokers are Ponzi schemes with a trading screen attached: deposits pay earlier "withdrawals" until new money slows. The wider pattern is described in how to spot Ponzi and investment scams.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is not a broker. If you send money abroad for any reason, check the recipient name before you approve, and keep transfers to accounts in the provider's own name; see send money and security.

This is general information, not investment advice. The legal position is covered in is forex trading legal in Nigeria.

Questions people ask

How do I know if my forex broker is regulated in Nigeria?

Search the company on SEC Nigeria's Find a Registered Operator page. Under ISA 2025 the SEC says unregistered online forex platforms serving Nigerians commit an offence.

Is an FCA-regulated broker safe for Nigerians?

Only if your account is with the FCA-authorised company. Many brands sign non-UK clients to a separate offshore entity, which does not carry the FCA protections.

How do I spot a clone forex broker?

Compare the website address and contact details on the regulator's register with the site you are using. Clones copy real names and licence numbers but use different domains.

What does offshore broker mean?

A broker company registered in a jurisdiction with lighter rules. Your protections, such as leverage caps and negative balance protection, are those of that jurisdiction.
