You are not borrowing. You are selling to somebody who already has the money — and that money can only be spent with a business like yours.

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.
Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.
Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.
Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.
Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.
Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.
Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.
Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.
Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Feed conversion ratio explained with worked numbers: how to turn a feed price per bag into a cost per kg of fish, and compare feeds properly.
Catfish feed cost per kg of fish equals your feed conversion ratio (FCR) multiplied by the price of feed per kg. A Nigerian trial found FCRs from 1.35 on one commercial feed to 2.81 on a local feed; in our labelled example at ₦1,600 per kg of feed, that is the difference between ₦2,160 and ₦4,496 of feed in every kilogram of fish you sell.
Feed conversion ratio is the kilograms of feed used to produce one kilogram of fish. If you feed 1,300kg and your fish gain 1,000kg, your FCR is 1.3. From that:
This one number tells you more about profit than any other, because feed is usually the largest cost on a catfish farm. Compare it with the price buyers pay per kg, and you know immediately how much is left for fingerlings, water, labour and profit.
Feed is sold by the bag, but bag sizes differ between brands and pellet sizes, so always convert to price per kg. In June 2025 a Nasarawa farmer told the News Agency of Nigeria that a bag of one commercial brand cost ₦26,200, down from ₦29,500 in 2024; the report did not give the bag size. For illustration, if that were a 15kg bag, the price would be ₦26,200 ÷ 15 = ₦1,746.67 per kg.
Ask your supplier for the weight printed on the bag, and recalculate every time you buy, since feed prices change often.
This table uses an example feed price of ₦1,600 per kg. The FCRs of 1.35, 1.97 and 2.81 are from a 12-week Nigerian trial published in 2019 by the GRÓ Fisheries Training Programme; 1.0 is shown as a reference point.
| FCR | Feed per kg of fish | Feed cost per kg of fish at ₦1,600/kg |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0 | 1.0kg | ₦1,600 |
| 1.35 (best commercial feed in the trial) | 1.35kg | ₦2,160 |
| 1.97 (second commercial feed; also a mixed diet) | 1.97kg | ₦3,152 |
| 2.81 (local feed in the trial) | 2.81kg | ₦4,496 |
Set that against farm-gate prices. The same NAN report quoted ₦2,800 to ₦3,500 per kg for catfish in Karu in mid-2025. At an FCR of 2.81 and ₦1,600 feed, feed alone would cost more than the fish sells for.
A higher FCR is not automatically worse if the feed is much cheaper. The 2019 trial found the local feed gave the better profit index and lower incidence cost, despite its poorer FCR, because it cost less. It also found mixed diets of commercial and local feed were more cost-effective than commercial feed alone. The test is always cost per kg of fish, not FCR alone or price per bag alone.
| Feed (example prices) | FCR | Feed price per kg | Feed cost per kg of fish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium commercial | 1.35 | ₦1,800 | ₦2,430 |
| Local feed | 2.81 | ₦900 | ₦2,529 |
In this example, the two are close: ₦2,430 against ₦2,529. A small change in the local feed's price or quality would flip the answer, which is why farmers should measure their own FCR rather than rely on a brand's claim.
Take a pond that will produce 1,000kg of fish. In this example, at an FCR of 1.35 you need 1,350kg of feed; at 1.97 you need 1,970kg. At ₦1,600 per kg, the feed bills are ₦2,160,000 and ₦3,152,000, a gap of ₦992,000 on the same harvest. That gap is often bigger than the whole profit on a small farm, which is why experienced farmers talk about FCR before they talk about price.
Buying feed in bulk at a lower price per kg helps only if you can store it dry and use it before it goes stale. Mouldy feed is dangerous to fish and should be thrown away, so do not buy more than you can store well.
Include feed eaten by fish that later died, because you paid for it. That makes your FCR honest about losses.
Feed suppliers who invoice you can be paid from a Pryme Business Account, and the Finance agent can prepare a cost-per-cycle summary from your payments for you to review (Finance). For the full cycle, see profit per cycle and start-up cost. For tracking costs, read can AI do your bookkeeping?.
It is the kilograms of feed used per kilogram of fish produced. A Nigerian trial recorded 1.35 to 2.81 depending on the feed.
At an FCR of 1.35 about 1.35kg of feed; at 2.81 about 2.81kg. Measure your own by weighing feed used and sample fish.
A Nasarawa farmer told NAN in June 2025 one brand cost ₦26,200 a bag, but the bag size was not given. Always convert to price per kg.
Not always worse. The 2019 trial found local feed had a poorer FCR but a better profit index because it was cheaper. Compare cost per kg of fish.
