Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

CCTV installation business: kit cost and pricing a job

The tools and demo kit a CCTV installer needs in Nigeria, analogue versus IP systems, who buys, and how to build a quote for a four-camera job.

The short answer

A CCTV installer in Nigeria can start with a few hundred thousand naira in tools and a demonstration kit; our labelled example is about ₦432,000. Jobs are quoted as materials (cameras, recorder, hard drive, cable, power supply) plus a mark-up and labour per camera point. Homes, estates, shops, schools, churches and warehouses are the main buyers, and repeat income comes from maintenance and remote-viewing support.

What you are selling

A CCTV job is more than cameras on a wall. The customer is buying coverage of the right spots, recordings they can find when something happens, and the ability to view on their phone. That means you design the layout, run and hide the cables, set up the recorder and storage, configure the app and train the owner. Installers who do the design and after-care well get referrals; those who only mount cameras compete on price alone.

Analogue HD or IP: the two system types

Analogue HD (DVR)IP (NVR)
CableCoaxial plus separate power, or combined cableNetwork cable; one cable can carry power (PoE)
ImageGood for most homes and shopsHigher resolution options, more features
CostLower per cameraHigher, plus PoE switch
Skills neededBasicNetworking: IP addresses, routers, remote access
Best forBudget homes, small shopsOffices, estates, schools, larger sites

Start with one system and learn it fully. Many installers begin with analogue HD kits for homes and add IP once they understand networking.

Tools and demo kit: example budget

These are example figures, not quotes. Camera and recorder prices follow the exchange rate, so price them from two distributors before you quote customers.

ItemExample cost (₦)
Cordless hammer drill with masonry bits60,000
Extension ladder70,000
Crimping tools and cable tester20,000
Digital multimeter12,000
CCTV tester monitor (to aim cameras on site)90,000
Hand tools, fish tape, clips, cable ties30,000
Demonstration kit (two cameras, small recorder) to show customers150,000
Total432,000

You do not need to hold stock at the start. Most installers take a deposit and buy materials per job, which keeps capital free. A smartphone with the main brands' viewing apps installed is part of the kit too.

Pricing a job: a worked four-camera quote

Quote in three parts: materials at cost, a mark-up on materials for sourcing and warranty handling, and labour per camera point. Here is an example for a four-camera analogue home system.

LineExample (₦)
4 cameras at ₦25,000100,000
4-channel DVR45,000
1TB surveillance hard drive45,000
100m cable35,000
Power supply box15,000
Connectors, conduit, clips20,000
Materials260,000
Mark-up on materials, 15%39,000
Labour, 4 points at ₦10,00040,000
Quote to customer339,000

Add for difficult runs (high walls, long distances between buildings), night-vision upgrades, a UPS so recording survives power cuts, and travel outside your area. Offer an annual maintenance plan for cleaning lenses, checking the hard drive and updating firmware; it turns one-off jobs into steady income. Take a deposit that covers materials before buying anything; see taking deposits and part-payments.

Who buys CCTV and how to reach them

  • Homeowners and landlords: often after a break-in nearby; word of mouth and estate WhatsApp groups matter.
  • Estates and residents' associations: gate and perimeter coverage, bought by committee, usually with a written proposal.
  • Shops, pharmacies and supermarkets: till and stockroom coverage to reduce theft.
  • Schools and creches: parents increasingly ask about cameras; see our guide to starting a daycare.
  • Churches, mosques and event centres: car parks and entrances.
  • Warehouses and offices: larger IP systems and service contracts.

Skills, safety and certification

Low-voltage camera cabling is different from mains wiring, but many jobs need a new socket or a dedicated supply. That part should be done by a qualified electrician. The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) certifies electrical installation contractors; in November 2020 its managing director said NEMSA would withdraw licences of contractors who break the rules. If you want your own electrical qualification, trade tests in electrical installation are offered, for example by the Lagos State Examinations Board, graded III, II and I.

Respect privacy. Point cameras at the customer's property, not into neighbours' windows, and agree who can view and download footage.

After-care: where repeat income comes from

Most CCTV complaints arrive weeks after installation: the app stopped connecting after the customer changed their router, a camera went dark after a storm, or the hard drive filled up and stopped recording. Each one is a chance to show you stand behind your work. Write the recorder's admin password and app login on a card for the owner, explain how long recordings are kept before being overwritten, and show them how to export a clip. Offer a paid maintenance plan once or twice a year, and charge a call-out fee for visits outside it. For estates and companies, a written service agreement with a response time keeps you on their books.

What to check first

  1. Choose two camera brands and learn their recorders and apps thoroughly.
  2. Find a distributor that honours warranty swaps.
  3. Prepare a one-page quote template with materials, mark-up and labour lines.
  4. Photograph every finished job (with permission) for your portfolio.
  5. Register a business name so estates and companies can pay you as a business.

Where Pryme fits

Estates and companies pay against invoices. A Pryme Business Account includes invoicing and bank-transfer checkout (free) for deposits.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost to start a CCTV installation business in Nigeria?

Our labelled example of tools and a demonstration kit is about ₦432,000. Most installers buy cameras and recorders per job with the customer's deposit rather than holding stock.

How much do installers charge to install CCTV camera in Nigeria?

Most charge materials plus a mark-up plus labour per camera point. Our example four-camera home system comes to ₦339,000, but camera prices and labour rates vary, so build your own quote.

Which is better, DVR or NVR CCTV?

DVR (analogue HD) systems are cheaper and simpler; NVR (IP) systems offer higher resolution and power over one network cable but need networking skills.

Do I need a licence to install CCTV in Nigeria?

We found no licence specific to CCTV. Mains electrical work is different: NEMSA certifies electrical installation contractors, so use a qualified electrician for new supplies.
