Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Can a loan app freeze your bank account?

A loan app cannot freeze your account. Who can restrict one, what an app can do with a linked card, and how to stop unwanted debits.

The short answer

No. A loan app cannot freeze your bank account. Restricting an account is something your own bank does, usually under a court order or a lawful instruction from an authorised body. A CBN-regulated lender can recover from your accounts through Global Standing Instruction (GSI) only if you signed that mandate. What a non-bank app can usually do is try to charge the debit card or account you linked when you borrowed.

Who can actually restrict an account

Your account is a contract between you and your bank, supervised by the CBN. Only a small group of parties can cause it to be restricted:

  • Your bank, under its account terms, for example if it suspects fraud or needs updated identity documents. Banks often call this a Post No Debit (PND) restriction.
  • A court, through an order directed at the bank, such as an order freezing funds or attaching them to satisfy a judgment.
  • Authorised bodies acting under law, usually with a court order, in investigations.

A loan app is not on that list. It has no access to your bank's systems and cannot instruct your bank to freeze anything. If it sues you and wins, it would still need the court's enforcement process to reach money in your account. See can a loan app sue you?.

GSI: the one route to your other accounts

The CBN's circular list records "Operational Guidelines on Global Standing Instruction (GSI) – Individuals" from July 2020 and a follow-up circular in January 2022. GSI is a CBN framework for the lenders it regulates. When you sign a GSI mandate as part of a loan from a participating lender, that lender can recover an overdue loan from funds in your accounts at other banks. Recovery is a debit of what is owed; it is not a freeze. A loan app that is not a CBN-regulated institution sits outside that framework. See GSI explained and how to know if you signed a GSI mandate.

What an app can do with your card

Most loan apps ask you to add a debit card when you borrow. The payment processor stores a token so the app can charge the card on the due date without asking for the card details again. If the loan is overdue, the app may try that card repeatedly, and some agreements let it try for partial amounts. The effect on you is debits, not a freeze: your account stays open, but money can leave it if there is a balance.

What you may seeWhat is happeningWhat you can do

Your bank says there is a restrictionA bank, court or authority actionAsk the bank in writing for the reason and the process

Stopping debits you did not agree to

  1. Read the agreement to see what you authorised, and confirm the lender is registered (how to check). The FCCPC's 2025 regulations require full disclosure of terms before a loan and forbid lenders acting inconsistently with the agreement.
  2. Ask the lender for a statement; regulation 21 says consumers can obtain one within 24 hours of asking.
  3. Remove the card from the app if your agreement allows it. See how to remove your card from a loan app.
  4. Ask your bank about card controls, such as blocking online use on the card or replacing it. A new card number ends a stored token.
  5. Dispute wrong debits with your bank promptly, with the dates and amounts.
  6. Keep repaying what you owe by a route you control. Stopping card debits does not end the debt. See stopping debits from a loan app.

A practical point before you remove a card: write down the loan balance, the due date and the repayment account shown in the app, and screenshot your repayment history. Once the card is gone some apps make it harder to see that information, and you will want it if you later dispute a charge or agree a settlement.

If your account really is restricted

Visit or write to your bank and ask what the restriction is, who requested it and what you need to provide. If it is a PND for missing documents, updating them often resolves it. If it follows a court order, you will need a lawyer to look at the order. The bank, not an app, is the party that must explain it to you.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme accounts use an authenticator app and a transaction PIN rather than SMS codes. Loans on Spaces are lent by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank and are spent with Spaces merchants, and the repayment terms are shown in the agreement you accept. See security and Loans on Spaces.

Questions people ask

Can a loan app freeze my account in Nigeria?

No. Account restrictions come from your bank, a court order or an authorised body acting under law. A loan app cannot instruct your bank to freeze it.

Can a loan app debit my account without my permission?

An app can charge the card or account you linked under the terms you accepted. Debits outside those terms, or after you have repaid, should be disputed with the lender and your bank.

Can a loan app take money from my other bank accounts?

Not through GSI, which is a CBN framework for CBN-regulated lenders and needs your signed mandate. A non-bank app usually only has your linked card.

What is PND on a bank account?

Post No Debit is a restriction a bank places so money cannot leave the account, for example while documents are updated or under a court order. Ask your bank in writing for the reason.
