Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Can a lender contact your employer about your loan?

When employer contact is part of the deal, as with salary loans, and when telling your boss about your debt breaks data and consumer rules.

The short answer

A lender may deal with your employer when you agreed to it, most often on salary loans where the employer confirms your job or pays your salary to the lending bank. Outside what you agreed, telling your employer or colleagues about your debt to pressure you is processing your personal data, which must comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and the FCCPC's 2025 lending regulations require lenders to act responsibly, professionally and ethically.

When employer contact is part of the loan

Many salary loans in Nigeria involve your employer by design, and you consent to it when you apply. The common arrangements are:

  • Employment confirmation. The lender writes to or calls HR to confirm that you work there and what you earn.
  • Salary domiciliation. Your employer agrees in writing to pay your salary into an account at the lending bank for the life of the loan. See salary domiciliation letters explained.
  • Payroll deduction. For some public-sector and cooperative loans, instalments come out of pay before it reaches you.

In these cases the employer already knows about the loan because you arranged it. What the lender can tell the employer is still limited to what the arrangement needs: confirming employment, salary routing and, where agreed, deductions.

When it crosses the line

A loan app that calls your manager, messages your colleagues or posts in a work group to say you are a debtor is doing something different. It is using your personal data, the fact of your debt, to put social pressure on you. Several rules apply:

  • Data protection. The FCCPC's Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations 2025 require lenders to comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (regulation 21). Disclosing your debt to people who are not party to the loan needs a lawful basis under that Act.
  • Conduct. The same regulations require lenders to conduct business in a responsible, professional and ethical manner (regulation 19) and to treat consumers fairly (regulation 18).
  • Recovery methods are meant to be set out. Lending agreements between partners must state default recovery methods (regulation 13), which gives the FCCPC a basis to check how collection is done.
  • Contacts access. The FCCPC's application form asks lenders to confirm that their apps will not access consumers' contacts, call logs or photos; Google Play's policy also bars personal loan apps from reading contacts. An app that has your colleagues' numbers often got them in a way these rules are meant to stop. See can loan apps access your contacts?.

The FCCPC said on 20 July 2026 that it had resumed implementing these regulations after the Federal High Court in Lagos vacated a restraining order. Penalties under regulation 27 reach ₦100 million or 1% of the previous year's turnover for a company, whichever is greater.

What to do if a lender has contacted your workplace

  1. Collect evidence: screenshots with phone numbers, dates and times; names of colleagues contacted; call logs.
  2. Write to the lender through its official complaint channel, saying contact with your employer is not authorised and must stop. The FCCPC's regulations say complaints should be resolved within 24 hours, or at most 48 hours.
  3. Complain to the FCCPC at lenderstaskforce@fccpc.gov.ng, attaching the evidence and the lender's app name.
  4. Consider the data regulator. Misuse of personal data can be reported to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. See reporting a loan app to the NDPC.
  5. Speak to HR first, briefly, if you are worried about your job. Saying that a lender is breaching data rules and that you are dealing with it often settles the matter. See can your employer sack you over a debt?.

Lawful contact compared with pressure

Usually within what you agreed
HR receives a written request to confirm your employment and salary when you apply; the bank reminds HR of a salary domiciliation letter you signed; payroll deducts an instalment under an authority you gave.
Usually outside it
Calls to your manager saying you owe money; messages to colleagues asking them to tell you to pay; posts in an office group; threats to "report you to your company".

A short line you can send the lender: "I have not authorised you to contact my employer or colleagues about this loan. Please stop, confirm in writing within 48 hours, and send me a statement of my account so we can agree a repayment plan." It keeps the record clean and shows you are dealing with the debt.

Check the lender is registered

A digital lender must be registered with the FCCPC; regulation 25(4) says no undertaking other than a licensed or registered one shall provide consumer lending in Nigeria. Check the FCCPC's published register before you deal with any app. See how to check a loan app is registered.

Where Pryme fits

Loans on Spaces are lent by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank and spent only with Spaces merchants. The agreement is shown in full before you accept, and repayment is between you and the lender. See Loans on Spaces.

Questions people ask

Can a loan app call my office?

Not to shame you. Disclosing your debt to colleagues needs a lawful basis under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and the FCCPC's 2025 regulations require lenders to act responsibly and ethically. Keep evidence and complain to the lender and the FCCPC.

Can my bank tell my employer I owe money?

Where you agreed to salary domiciliation or payroll deductions, the bank and employer communicate about that arrangement. Beyond what the agreement needs, disclosure is a data protection question.

Can I be sacked because a loan app called my boss?

A debt is a private civil matter. Your employment terms and labour law decide dismissals; speak to HR and, if needed, a lawyer.

Where do I report a loan app that messaged my colleagues?

To the lender first, then the FCCPC at lenderstaskforce@fccpc.gov.ng, and to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission for misuse of personal data.
