Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Proving you own a Nigerian business name abroad: CAC records

Banks, landlords and visa officers abroad may want proof you own a Nigerian business. Which CAC record shows it, what it costs and how to get it.

The short answer

The CAC record that names you as owner is the status report: for a business name it shows the proprietor, and for a company it shows directors and shareholders. It is issued from the CAC portal for ₦5,000 (the gazetted fee as at May 2025) and the CAC lists it as instant; a certified true copy of the certificate or other filing costs ₦5,000 each. For use abroad, the receiving body may also want the document authenticated.

Which record proves what

RecordWhat it showsFee (CAC schedule, May 2025)CAC timeline
Public searchName, registration number, type, date and status. Does not prove who owns itBasic search free; full e-search ₦1,000Online
Status reportCurrent particulars, including proprietors (business names) or directors and shareholders (companies)₦5,000 (public companies ₦10,000)Instant
Certified true copy (CTC)A certified copy of a certificate or filing₦5,000 eachWithin 24 hours of a company post-registration request, per the charter
Historical search reportPast filings and changes₦10,000 each; all information ₦20,00024 hours for a search report
Letter of good standingThat a company is compliant₦10,0003 to 5 working days

Business name or company: why it matters

A business name is a registration of the name a person or partnership trades under, so its status report lists you, as proprietor, by name. A company is a body in its own right, and the status report shows you as director, shareholder or both. If an authority abroad asks you to prove you "own" the business, a company's status report showing your shareholding answers that; a director-only entry does not.

The public search, which Legit.ng describes as free and available without an account, confirms the business exists and is active. It is useful to give a bank or landlord abroad so they can check for themselves, but it does not on its face prove you are the owner.

Getting the documents from abroad

  1. Log in to the CAC portal at icrp.cac.gov.ng with the account used to register or file for the business. If you used an agent, ask them for access or to request the document for you.
  2. Make sure the record is current. If a partner left, a proprietor changed or an address moved and nothing was filed, the status report will show the old position.
  3. Request the status report, or a CTC of the certificate, and pay the fee online.
  4. Download the electronic document. CAMA section 861 gives certified copies the same validity as the original.
  5. If the receiving body needs it legalised, follow the authentication route for Nigerian documents; see legalising a Nigerian document.

If you lost the original certificate

The CAC's 2022 operations checklist says a CTC of a lost certificate needs a letter and an affidavit of loss, sworn by a director or secretary for a company, and an affidavit of reasons for a business name. If you are abroad, the affidavit can often be sworn there; see affidavits sworn abroad for use in Nigeria.

What a bank or authority abroad looks for

Receivers abroad usually want three things from a Nigerian business record: that the business exists and is active, that you are named in it, and that the document is recent. A status report dated this month answers all three; a certificate of incorporation from years ago answers only the first. Send the status report with the certificate, and give the receiver the registration number so it can run the free public search itself.

If the receiver works in another language or is unfamiliar with Nigerian records, add a one-page cover note explaining what each document is, what RC and BN numbers mean (RC for companies, BN for business names), and where your name appears. It costs nothing and saves a round of questions.

A worked example of the cost

Example: Ada lives in Manchester and owns a private company in Lagos, which she set up as a small company. Her UK bank wants evidence that she owns it. Using the gazetted fees as at October 2026, she orders:

ItemFee
Status report₦5,000
CTC of certificate of incorporation₦5,000
CTC of memorandum and articles₦5,000
Total, before any payment charges₦15,000

If the bank also wants the documents authenticated for use in the UK, that is a separate process with its own fees at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the mission. Ask the bank first whether it accepts the electronic CAC documents as they are.

Common reasons the record does not show you

  • The business was registered in a relative's or agent's name. Only a filed change of proprietor or a share transfer puts you on the record.
  • Annual returns are unpaid. A business name in default may still show, but a letter of good standing for a company is unlikely; see filing annual returns from abroad.
  • Your name on the CAC record differs from your passport. Fix it with a post-registration filing before you rely on the document abroad.

Where Pryme fits

Once the business is on record in your name, a Pryme Business Account can be opened from any country and holds naira, dollars, pounds and euros, with statements you can generate as verifiable documents through VerifyDoc.ai. See business multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask

How do I prove I own a business registered with CAC?

Request a status report from the CAC portal. For a business name it lists the proprietor; for a company it lists directors and shareholders.

How much is a CAC status report?

₦5,000 for business names and private companies and ₦10,000 for public companies under the schedule gazetted in May 2025. Check the portal for the current charge.

Is a CAC public search result enough proof of ownership?

Usually not. It confirms the name, number and status but is not a statement of who owns the business.

Can I get CAC documents without travelling to Nigeria?

Yes. Status reports and certified copies are requested and downloaded from the CAC portal.
