Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Can I buy land in Abuja from the US? AGIS checks

Yes, but in the FCT the title has to trace back to AGIS. How a legal search works, its fee and timing, and the Abuja-specific traps a US buyer should know.

The short answer

Yes. A US-based buyer can buy land in Abuja through a vetted Abuja lawyer, but the title must be one issued or recognised by the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS). AGIS runs a legal search for ₦10,000 on a private or individual file and ₦20,000 on a commercial one, usually ready within 24 hours and at most three days, and it needs the original title document sighted with valid ID. FCT Development Control says titles from local chiefs or other sources are normally rejected for building approval.

Why Abuja is different from Lagos

Land in the Federal Capital Territory is administered by the FCT Administration, and AGIS is the department that issues certificates and rights of occupancy, title deed plans, property searches and verification, according to the FCTA's own page. In practice that means one question settles most of an Abuja deal: does this plot exist in AGIS records in the seller's name? Paper from a village chief, an area council or an estate developer is not the same thing unless it traces back to an AGIS title.

FCT Development Control's guide for developers is blunt: land must have an AGIS title, and titles from local chiefs or other sources are normally rejected. FCTA officials have also described illegal estates at Idu, Apo Tapi and Lugbe built "without any title", with buyers holding fake title documents "allocated by AMAC", and warned that developers pay demolition costs (Blueprint, March 2023).

The AGIS legal search page sets out the process:

  1. Pay the search fee: ₦10,000 for private or individual files, ₦20,000 for commercial or organisational files, at an AGIS designated bank, and collect the receipt at the Finance desk. The bank list on the page looks dated, so confirm the payment route with AGIS or your lawyer.
  2. Apply to the Director of Land Administration at the front desk with proof of payment.
  3. The original title document must be sighted, with valid ID (passport, national ID or driver's licence).
  4. Results usually come within 24 hours and at most three days. Desks open 9am to 3pm on working days.
  5. Delays come from late submission, a wrong plot number or a missing signature, name or phone number.

The requirement to sight the original title is the key practical point for a buyer in the US. The seller holds the original, so the search is done with the seller's cooperation through your lawyer. A seller who will not let your lawyer present the original at AGIS is telling you something.

What to ask the search to confirm

  • The plot number, district and size match the seller's documents and the site.
  • The name on the AGIS file matches the seller (or the company, with CAC records to match).
  • Whether the file is a statutory C of O, a right of occupancy offer, or something still in process.
  • Any recorded encumbrance, mortgage or revocation.
  • Whether earlier assignments to the seller were themselves consented and registered.

The AGIS page does not describe what the search report contains, so ask your lawyer to send the report itself and explain each entry.

Beyond the search: the land itself

A clean file is not the whole story. Before paying, have someone independent of the seller visit the plot with the title deed plan and a surveyor. Check that the land use on the Abuja Master Plan matches what you want to build; Development Control says to confirm it with the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. If you plan to build, approval needs plans by registered professionals and, for a transfer, a power of attorney and registered deed of assignment among the documents. For off-plan purchases in estates, see our guide to off-plan apartments in Abuja.

Steps from the US, in order

StepWhat happensYour evidence
1. Vet a lawyerConfirm enrolment and NBA standing independentlyWritten engagement letter and fee
2. AGIS legal searchLawyer presents original title with sellerAGIS search report and receipt
3. Site and surveyIndependent visit with the title deed planDated photos, surveyor note
4. AgreementContract of sale, payment terms, conditionsSigned agreement
5. PaymentInto an agreed account against conditionsPayment receipts
6. PerfectionAssignment, consent and registration through AGISConsented and registered deed

Ask your lawyer to confirm in writing the FCT consent and registration route and its current official charges for your transaction, since the AGIS search page does not cover them. For general vetting, see hiring a Nigerian property lawyer from the US; for disputes after purchase, land disputes for owners abroad.

Worked example (illustrative)

A buyer in Maryland is offered a residential plot in an Abuja district for ₦45,000,000. Before any deposit, she pays her lawyer's agreed fee for due diligence, plus the ₦10,000 AGIS search fee and a surveyor's site visit. If the search shows the file in another name, she has lost the search costs and the fees, not ₦45,000,000. The plot price and professional fees are examples; only the AGIS search fee comes from the AGIS page.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not verify titles or act as an agent. It helps you move the money cleanly once checks are done: a Pryme account opened from the US holds USD and NGN, Swap shows the rate and fee before you approve, and payments can carry a verifiable receipt through VerifyDoc.ai (receipts). See paying for Nigerian land from the US.

Questions people ask

How much is an AGIS legal search?

The AGIS legal search page lists ₦10,000 for private or individual files and ₦20,000 for commercial or organisational files, as accessed in October 2026.

How long does an AGIS search take?

Usually within 24 hours and at most three days, according to AGIS.

Can I do an AGIS search myself from America?

Not easily. The original title document must be sighted with ID at the AGIS desk, so a lawyer in Abuja normally does it with the seller.

Is AMAC or village land in Abuja safe to buy?

FCT Development Control says titles from local chiefs or other sources are normally rejected for building approval, and FCTA has warned about fake titles in illegal estates. Insist on an AGIS title.
