Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Budgeting on the National Living Wage in the UK

The National Living Wage is £12.71 an hour for 21 and over from April 2026. What a full-time week takes home after tax, NI and pension.

The short answer

From April 2026 the National Living Wage is £12.71 an hour for workers aged 21 and over (GOV.UK, checked October 2026). In our worked example, 37.5 hours a week comes to about £2,065 a month before deductions and roughly £1,719 after Income Tax, National Insurance and a minimum workplace pension contribution. Check GOV.UK for the rate in force when you read this, because it changes each April.

The National Living Wage (NLW) is the legal minimum hourly pay for workers aged 21 and over. Many Nigerians start on it in care, warehousing, hospitality or retail, and some stay on it while studying or waiting to switch visa. Knowing exactly what lands in your account each month is the base of any UK budget.

The current rates

GOV.UK lists these rates from April 2026 (checked October 2026). They change every April, so always check the GOV.UK page for the figure in force.

Age or statusHourly rate from April 2026
21 and over (National Living Wage)£12.71
18 to 20£10.85
Under 18£8.00
Apprentice£8.00

The previous year's rate for 21 and over was £12.21, so a full-time worker's pay rose by 50p an hour. An employer must pay at least these amounts; it can pay more.

From gross to take-home: a worked example

Example, England, tax code 1257L, paid monthly, 37.5 hours a week at £12.71, enrolled in a workplace pension at the minimum. The thresholds are the 2026-27 figures on GOV.UK.

LineMonthly (example)
Gross pay (£12.71 × 37.5 × 52 ÷ 12)£2,065.38
Income Tax: 20% on pay above £1,047.50 a month£203.58
National Insurance: 8% on pay above £1,048 a month£81.39
Pension: 4% of qualifying earnings (5% after tax relief added)£61.82
Take-home pay£1,718.59

The pension line assumes a scheme that adds basic-rate tax relief for you (relief at source), so you pay 4% and the scheme adds 1%. Qualifying earnings start at £6,240 a year, so the 5% is on £18,544.50, not on the whole salary. Your employer adds at least 3% on the same band on top. Some schemes take the full 5% before tax instead; the take-home figure will be a little different, and your payslip shows which method your employer uses.

If you work fewer hours

Example: the same rate for 30 hours a week gives £1,652.30 gross a month. Income Tax is £120.96, National Insurance £48.34 and the minimum pension £45.29, leaving £1,437.71. Cutting 7.5 hours a week costs about £281 a month in take-home pay, less than the £413 cut in gross pay, because tax and NI fall too. Zero-hours and variable rotas make this harder: budget on your lowest typical month, not your best.

Building the budget

On about £1,719 a month, the biggest items for most newcomers are rent, Council Tax, energy, transport and food, with money home to family competing with all of them. A simple order that works for many people:

  1. Fixed costs first: rent, Council Tax, energy, phone, travel pass.
  2. Then food and household essentials, using a weekly cap.
  3. Then money to family, set as a fixed amount you can sustain every month rather than whatever is left.
  4. Then a small emergency buffer, even £50 a month, before anything else.
  5. Check each payslip: hours, rate and tax code.

If your tax code ends in W1, M1 or X, you may be on an emergency code and paying too much; see emergency tax codes in a first UK job. For reading the lines on your slip, see the UK payslip explained.

Where Pryme fits

On a tight wage, sending a fixed amount home is easier when you can see the cost first. With Pryme Send, the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Family in Nigeria can keep naira in a Savings Box (Boxes), held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask
