Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Bringing cash from Nigeria into Ireland: the €10,000 declaration

The EU rule on declaring €10,000 or more when you land in Ireland, what counts as cash, the Nigerian exit rules, and the seizure risk.

The short answer

If you arrive in Ireland from Nigeria carrying €10,000 or more in cash, or the same value in other currencies, you must declare it to Revenue Customs. Cash includes notes and coins, bearer-type cheques and money orders, and some gold. Revenue's page describes no charge for declaring, but Customs can seize sums of €1,000 or more, declared or not, if it suspects a link to crime.

Nigerians travelling to Ireland sometimes carry cash: dollars kept at home, money for a deposit on a flat, or funds given by family. Carrying cash is legal. Not declaring a large sum is what causes trouble, on both sides of the trip.

The Irish rule

Revenue's page on travelling with cash (published 4 May 2026) says anyone entering or leaving the EU through an Irish airport or port with cash of €10,000 or more must declare it. The threshold covers the equivalent value in other currencies, so a mix of dollars, pounds and euro counts together.

What counts as cash
Banknotes and coins (including notes withdrawn from circulation but still exchangeable); cheques, travellers' cheques, promissory notes and money orders without a named beneficiary; gold coins of at least 90% purity; gold bars, nuggets or clumps of at least 99.5% purity.
Who declares
The person carrying the cash.
Proof
You can ask for a stamped copy of your declaration. Keep it with your travel papers.
Sent, not carried
Cash of €10,000 or more sent by post, freight or courier may need a cash disclosure declaration.

Revenue's page does not say whether family members travelling together combine their cash. If you are travelling as a family with a large combined sum, declare rather than assume.

Seizure: the €1,000 point

Declaring does not mean the cash is safe from questions. Revenue says a Customs officer may search for, seize and keep cash of €1,000 or more where there are reasonable grounds to suspect it is the proceeds of crime or intended for criminal conduct. Carry evidence of where the money came from: a bank withdrawal slip or statement, a letter from the person who gave it, or a sale agreement.

The Nigerian side of the trip

Nigeria has its own declaration rules on the way out. According to TheCable's summary of the CBN's 2026 FX Manual (3 June 2026), travellers may carry up to US$50,000 out of Nigeria subject to declaration, with amounts above US$10,000 declared on the outward form, and larger sums need evidence that the currency was bought from a bank. The Nigeria Customs Service has said foreign currency above US$10,000 must be declared at departure or arrival "without exception", and undeclared funds may be seized (Peoples Gazette, 9 July 2025). So a sum of €10,000 or more is likely to need a declaration at both ends.

Worked example

Example only: you carry US$8,000 and €3,000 from Lagos to Dublin. At an example rate of $1.08 to €1, the dollars are worth about €7,407, so the total is about €10,407. That is over the Irish threshold, so you declare on arrival. On leaving Nigeria, the total is worth about US$11,240 at the same rate, above US$10,000, so it is declared there too. Use the rate on the day; the point is that mixed currencies add up.

Travel through the UK and Northern Ireland

Revenue says that since 1 January 2021 the cash rules apply to cash moved between Ireland and Great Britain (including the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands), but not to movements between Ireland and Northern Ireland. If you fly Lagos to London and then on to Dublin, GOV.UK says cash of £10,000 or more must be declared when travelling between Great Britain and a country outside the UK, and the Irish rule applies again when you arrive in Ireland from Britain.

Once the cash is in Ireland

Paying a large cash sum into an Irish bank account usually leads to source-of-funds questions. Keep your Revenue declaration copy, the Nigerian declaration and the paperwork behind the money together. What banks typically want is set out in Irish bank queried a deposit from Nigeria. For savings, a bank transfer is usually simpler; the routes are compared in converting naira savings to euro.

Keeping the paperwork

Keep the stamped Irish declaration, any Nigerian declaration form and the evidence of source together, ideally scanned as well as on paper. You may need them months later when an Irish bank asks about a deposit, or when you explain a purchase such as a car or a house deposit. A declaration made at the airport is the simplest proof that the money arrived openly.

What to check first

  1. Add up all the currencies you carry, in euro, using the day's rate.
  2. If the total is €10,000 or more, plan to declare in Ireland; if it is over US$10,000, declare on leaving Nigeria.
  3. Carry evidence of where the money came from.
  4. Ask for a stamped copy of the Irish declaration.

Where Pryme fits

Many people carry cash only because moving money another way felt slow. A Pryme personal account, opened from any country, holds NGN and EUR separately, so naira can be converted with Swap at a rate shown before you approve, and the euro is available in Ireland without carrying notes. Outside Nigeria, activities are carried out through regulated partners. See the multicurrency account.

Questions people ask

How much cash can I bring into Ireland from Nigeria?

There is no upper limit, but €10,000 or more (in any mix of currencies) must be declared to Revenue Customs on arrival from outside the EU.

Is there a fee to declare cash in Ireland?

Revenue's page describes a declaration, not a charge. Customs may still check the cash and ask where it came from.

Can Customs take my cash even if I declare it?

Revenue says it can seize €1,000 or more where it has reasonable grounds to suspect a link to crime. Carry evidence of the source.

Do I need to declare dollars leaving Lagos?

Under the CBN 2026 FX Manual as reported by TheCable, amounts above US$10,000 are declared on departure, up to US$50,000.
