Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

International bonifico to Nigeria from Intesa Sanpaolo

The fields an Intesa Sanpaolo SWIFT bonifico to Nigeria needs, what OUR, SHA and BEN mean for charges, and where to find the bank's own fee sheet.

The short answer

An international bonifico from Intesa Sanpaolo to Nigeria is a SWIFT transfer: you need the recipient's full name and address, their bank's SWIFT/BIC code, their account number and a payment reason, and you choose who pays the charges (OUR, SHA or BEN). Intesa Sanpaolo's own charges are set out in its foglio informativo for bonifici and should be shown before you confirm; foreign and intermediary bank charges can come on top.

Nigeria is outside SEPA, so a transfer from an Intesa Sanpaolo account is an extra-SEPA bonifico estero sent over the SWIFT network. It suits larger, documented payments (school fees, property, a family member's dom account) better than small regular support. This guide explains the fields, the charge options and how to read the costs. We did not record Intesa Sanpaolo's current fee figures for this article; they are in the bank's own documents and on the confirmation screen.

The fields you will fill in

A SWIFT customer transfer follows the MT103 message format, and the fields in your app or at the branch map onto it. BNZ's published MT103 specification describes the main ones:

Beneficiary (field 59)
The recipient's full name, and usually address, exactly as their Nigerian bank holds it.
Account
Nigeria does not use IBAN. Enter the 10-digit NUBAN account number; if the app insists on an IBAN, look for an option for countries without one.
Beneficiary bank (field 57)
The Nigerian bank's SWIFT/BIC code, ideally from the recipient's bank or its official website, not a forum.
Intermediary bank (field 56)
Only if the recipient's bank gives you one, for example a correspondent bank for euro or dollars.
Remittance information (field 70)
A short reason: "school fees", "family support", invoice number.
Charges (field 71A)
OUR, SHA or BEN, explained below.

Ask your recipient for their bank's international transfer instructions. Many Nigerian banks publish separate instructions for naira and for domiciliary (foreign currency) accounts, and using the wrong set is a common cause of returned payments. See Nigerian bank details for transfers from Italy.

OUR, SHA or BEN

OptionWho pays (MT103 definition)What it means in practice
OURThe ordering customer bears all chargesYou pay Intesa Sanpaolo and the foreign charges; the recipient should get the full amount, though the bank may recover foreign charges from you
SHAThe beneficiary bears all charges except those of the ordering customer's bankYou pay Intesa Sanpaolo's fee; intermediary and receiving bank charges are deducted from the amount
BENThe beneficiary bears all chargesAll charges come out of the amount sent

If the exact amount matters, such as a school invoice, OUR is the option designed for it, but it costs you more up front. Banks can restrict the options for some currencies. For comparison, UniCredit's counter fee sheet accepts only SHA for some currency combinations; check what Intesa Sanpaolo's app offers for your transfer.

Reading the costs

Italian banks publish their charges in fogli informativi on their trasparenza pages. Intesa Sanpaolo's foglio for bonifici is the document to check for its fee, any percentage commission, urgent-transfer charges and recall fees. As an example of how such a sheet is set out, UniCredit's foglio IP02 for transfers ordered at the counter (update 39, 5 January 2024) lists a fixed fee of €16.50, a 0.22% service commission (minimum €4.00) and a €1.25 message fee, with foreign bank charges passed on in full. Those are UniCredit's figures, not Intesa Sanpaolo's.

If you send euro and the recipient's account is in naira, someone converts. If the conversion happens in Nigeria, the receiving bank applies its own rate. If you convert in Italy, Intesa Sanpaolo's rate applies. Either way, the gap to the mid-market rate is a cost. See SWIFT transfers from Italian banks.

The Nigerian side

A law firm summary of the CBN's 24 March 2026 circular says IMTOs must pay customers only in naira from 1 May 2026; the summary is about money transfer operators and is silent on bank-to-bank SWIFT transfers. Reporting on the CBN's 2026 foreign exchange manual says domiciliary account holders can make transfers up to $10,000 a day and are not required to disclose source of funds when depositing. If your recipient holds a euro or dollar dom account, ask their bank how it credits an incoming euro SWIFT. Domiciliary versus multicurrency accounts explains the difference.

Steps

  1. Get the recipient's name, account number, bank SWIFT code and any intermediary details in writing from them.
  2. Open the bonifico estero option in the Intesa Sanpaolo app, internet banking or at a branch.
  3. Choose the currency and the charge option, and enter a clear reason.
  4. Check the charges and any exchange rate on the summary before you confirm.
  5. Save the receipt; if the money does not arrive, the bank can trace it with the transfer reference.

Where Pryme fits

For regular family support, a Pryme account opened from Italy holds euro and naira and lets you convert when you choose before you send to a Nigerian account; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Does Nigeria use IBAN?

No. Nigerian accounts use a 10-digit NUBAN. Your Intesa Sanpaolo transfer needs that number and the bank's SWIFT/BIC code.

Should I choose OUR or SHA for Nigeria?

OUR means you pay all charges so the recipient should get the full amount; SHA means the recipient's side charges are deducted. Choose OUR for exact invoice amounts.

Where are Intesa Sanpaolo's bonifico charges?

In its foglio informativo for bonifici on the bank's trasparenza pages, and on the summary before you confirm.

How long does a SWIFT bonifico to Nigeria take?

It depends on the bank, currency and intermediaries. Ask Intesa Sanpaolo for its execution times for extra-EU transfers.
